Chapter 10 She Is a Legendary Genius?!
When Cecilia became the new counselor at Yale University's counseling center, Corinne was filled with jealousy and resentment.
She stood at the end of the hallway, watching the long line outside the counseling room, her eyes full of malice.
Back at the Sterling family, Cecilia didn't even dare to speak loudly to her, and now she had the nerve to come to Yale and show off. It was ridiculous.
Corinne turned to her sidekick Amy and lowered her voice, "I need you to do something for me. If you do it well, I'll get you the latest LV bag."
Amy's eyes lit up, and she immediately leaned in, "Corinne, what do you want me to do?"
Corinne sneered and whispered a few words in her ear.
Before long, a post quietly appeared on Yale University's internal forum and quickly shot to the top of the trending list.
The post title was extremely eye-catching: [Sleeping Her Way to the Top - Does Someone Who's Never Studied Psychology Really Deserve to Be a School Counselor?]
The post directly targeted Cecilia Laurent, the new counselor at the counseling center.
The poster claimed that this new teacher had no relevant education or qualifications whatsoever, and had only gotten into Yale by using shameful tactics to hook up with powerful men.
To add credibility, the post included several photos.
In the photos, Cecilia wore a plain apron, no makeup, holding cleaning tools while doing housework, looking completely like a downtrodden housewife.
There were also several blurry candid photos, vaguely showing Cecilia walking with a tall man.
Although the man's face wasn't clear, this undoubtedly confirmed the rumors that she "depended on men."
Once the post went up, the entire Yale University exploded.
Students were talking about it everywhere, full of doubt and contempt for this new female teacher.
…
At the counseling center.
Cecilia sat at her desk, looking through students' psychological assessment forms.
She keenly noticed that today's students all had strange looks in their eyes.
They didn't really talk about their psychological issues, but instead kept examining her with probing, doubtful, and even slightly contemptuous looks.
Occasionally, a few students gathered in the hallway, pointing at her and whispering.
Cecilia remained calm.
She thought it was just because she was new and the students were curious about her, so she didn't take it to heart.
Cecilia continued organizing her materials.
These strange looks couldn't affect her mood.
Until almost noon, the counseling room door was pushed open forcefully.
"Cecilia!"
Eloane rushed into the counseling room, breathing unevenly, holding out her phone with both hands.
"Look at the school forum! Someone is spreading malicious lies about you!"
Cecilia glanced at the title and photos on the screen.
The angle of these photos came from surveillance at Sterling Manor.
The only person who could get photos from that place and had such hostility toward her was Corinne.
She pushed the phone back to Eloane, her tone steady, "It's a clumsy trick. It's fine, don't worry about it."
"But everyone is talking about it..."
"Come on, let's go to the cafeteria for lunch." Cecilia stood up and smoothed her clothes.
The school cafeteria during lunch break was crowded everywhere.
As soon as Cecilia and Eloane stepped through the door, the originally noisy hall quieted down a bit.
Countless eyes turned toward them in unison.
Someone openly mocked, "See that? That's her. The fake teacher who slept her way in."
A male student at the next table chimed in, "I heard she's been married before and specializes in scamming rich people. Now she's latched onto the young lady from the Knightley family. Really clever tactics."
"Can't help it. Who told her she could sell her body? I could never do something so shameful!"
The insulting words flew at them without restraint.
Drawing laughter throughout the cafeteria.
Eloane clenched her fists, angrily arguing back at those people, "Shut up! Cecilia got in based on real ability! What right do you have to make things up!"
Several students laughed even louder.
"Miss Eloane, you're too naive. This kind of woman is best at pretending. She's got you fooled and you're still defending her."
"This kind of person is a disgrace to Yale!"
"Eloane, you should stay away from her, don't let her corrupt you."
The mocking voices around them grew louder.
Eloane's eyes turned red. She gripped Cecilia's arm tightly but didn't know how to respond.
She had severe PTSD and usually had trouble even talking to strangers. Now, facing such malicious attacks from so many people, she only felt deep fear and helplessness.
Cecilia held Eloane's hand back and protected her.
She swept her cold gaze over those malicious students, about to speak.
"Why is it so lively here?" A sharp voice came from outside the crowd.
Corinne, with several followers, pushed through the crowd and swaggered in.
She looked at Cecilia being attacked by the crowd, her face full of smugness and mockery.
"Cecilia, I thought you were so capable, but turns out you just use these dirty tricks."
Corinne walked up to Cecilia and looked her up and down, "The forum post was right. Someone like you who didn't even finish college and got abandoned - what qualifies you to teach at Yale?"
She deliberately raised her voice so everyone present could hear clearly.
"Everyone might not know, but this Cecilia used to be my brother's wife. But because she was greedy and lazy, and couldn't have children, my brother kicked her out long ago."
As soon as she said this, gasps filled the air.
"So she's an abandoned wife who got kicked out!"
"Oh my god, this kind of person is here to counsel us? That's ridiculous!"
Corinne, hearing the discussion around her, became even more pleased.
She pointed at Cecilia's nose and demanded loudly, "Cecilia, do you dare tell everyone here how you got into Yale? Do you have any professional certificates? Have you studied psychology? You slut who slept your way to the top - what right do you have to stand here!"
Facing Corinne's aggressive questioning and the malicious looks from surrounding students.
Cecilia remained calm, without any panic.
"I got this job through the school's regular interview process, based on my own professional abilities." Cecilia's tone was cold, "As for what you said about me having no ability and sleeping my way up, that's completely false."
"Professional abilities?" Corinne laughed as if she'd heard the biggest joke, "You worked as a maid at our house for three years. Besides washing clothes and cooking, what else can you do? Do you even know what psychology is? You've never even touched a psychology book, have you!"
"Cecilia, stop pretending. Just leave Yale on your own. Don't wait for the school to investigate and kick you out - that would be really embarrassing."
The surrounding students joined in the jeering.
"Get out of Yale!"
"We don't need a fraud like you as a teacher!"
Amid this mocking laughter, a girl wearing black-framed glasses stood up from a back seat.
Holding thick school history journals, she quickly walked to the center of the crowd, staring intently at Cecilia.
"All of you shut up!" The glasses-wearing girl excitedly held up her book, "You have no idea who she is!"
The whole place went quiet. Corinne frowned, "What's wrong with you?"
The glasses-wearing girl ignored Corinne, looking at Cecilia with fanatic eyes, and loudly announced, "She is Cecilia Laurent! The true legendary genius of our psychology department!"
"In ten months, she completed all advanced psychology courses! Every exam score was near perfect! In her freshman year, she independently treated and cured dozens of patients with severe mental illness, never once failing!"
The glasses-wearing girl opened her journal and showed that page to everyone.
"Go ask the psychology department professors! Professor Hayes still uses her cases as model teaching materials! Her abilities are top-tier in all of America!"
The entire cafeteria fell silent.
All the mocking looks turned to extreme shock.
Those students who had just been insulting her now looked terrible and didn't dare breathe loudly.
Corinne's eyes widened, her body stiff, her open mouth unable to make a sound for a long time.
Cecilia calmly looked at Corinne's trembling hands, a smile forming at the corner of her lips.
