Chapter 57

King Harvey sits on the edge of our bed with his head in his hands. I say nothing as I enter the room and lock the door behind me. He sighs when I sit beside him and place my hand on his knee.

“Talk to me.” I say to him.

King Harvey heavily exhales, a long almost howling escapes his lips. “My parents visited earlier while you slept. They say that your powers are going to make you a massive target for the other kingdoms. My cousin lives in hell. I don’t wish for my wife and our future kin to suffer because of this. Because of me.”

“You?” I laugh bitterly as my heart cracks in half cleanly. “I am the human here.”

“I should have taken you as a mistress…” King Harvey whispers as I feel the need to throw up.

“WHAT?!” I scream, taking his face in my hands. “What the hell?!”

King Harvey smiles brokenly. “Had I taken a werewolf as a wife, she would have been the target, not you.”

“You would be so cruel to use another woman as human shield for me?”

“…I would do anything for you.” His desperation leaks through his words as I notice a tear forming in his right eye.

I look away to give him respect but wipe it away regardless as I try to think of anything I can say or do to make everything better.

How much does he love me to break every moral code he has?

I wish I could revel in this love for every one second.

“I love you, King Harvey. In no world would I be a mistress, nor allow you to take me. You are too good of a man to do that, you know that.”

“Anything to keep you safe.” King Harvey breathes in a strangled whisper. “Elena, my nightmares. I fear your death beyond anything. It seems my fears may come true.”

“No, no they won’t because I will use my luna abilities. You will train me, and you will get stronger too, we will be okay. You are too good of man for any of that mistress mess.”

“Elena, what if something happens and I can’t protect you? I have never had a wife; I have no husband training…”

“You have been to war.”

“Without a wife!”

I laugh. “You kept your platoon alive, did you not?”

“I did, but those were werewolf men. You are human and a lady and my wife! You are my future and my heart; you are everything to me.”

Running my hand through his hair then his chest, I find this the best method to soothe him. His breathing stills and starts to revert to normal in a few harsh breaths.

“You are my world…you are overwhelmed, aren’t you, King Harvey?”

“How could I not be? I am the first king with a human luna. That is not a bad thing, or something I regret. I regret the rest of this world, Elena, for making you out to be an easy target. I attempted to change that before we met, that is why I went to war. It seems it did little…”

“Don’t say that!” I wrap my arms around him and hug him. The compact warmth of his body makes me sigh. To make him feel better, I take both of his hands and plant them straight on my ass. A soft groan travels out of his mouth as he buries his face in my neck.

Some comfort for him will work wonders.

“Elena.” King Harvey kisses me forehead.

“I was going to say, my luna abilities. You know how to train me because of your war training. You have changed the world in the sense I am at the least tolerated, that brings us time for me to master everything, is that fair?”

“Yes. Elena, my parents wish to see your luna abilities soon to see any improvement.”

“Very good. Let me go fix my shield then.” Sliding off the bed, King Harvey follows me by the hand in silence.

In one blur, King Harvey places the cracked shield at my feet and I look down at it. The crack in the middle is a clean, perfect cut. How am I going to even form a flame?

“Help me, King Harvey.”

“Mother wishes for me to remarry, a werewolf woman from her hometown.”

I have no idea if that is true, but I want to scream until I pass out. Fury consumes my soul.

My throat closes shut as fire pulses through my veins and lands in my palm. Bending down rapidly, I press the flame to the right side of the flame as I shove the left side of the shield into the right half.

“More, King Harvey.”

“Mother says I can have any woman in the kingdom and picked the…. orphan.”

“Perfect.” I hiss, the shield melds together with one final push of my palm.

King Harvey is silent in his shock as he picks up the shield, I have melded shut with one hand. He picks it up with one pinky.

“It is three pounds, Elena.” King Harvey mutters in marvel.

“I did not say that Elena.” King Harvey’s mother replies from the front door of the weapon making room.

“Do I have your approval?” I question coldly.

King Harvey’s father appears in the doorway beside his wife. “Will you be a burden to our son?”

“No.” I reply, making sure to not look at my husband. I know he is furious.

His parents study me one final time, and to prove my point, I lift my shield up in the air. They leave.

King Harvey pulls me into our bedroom. He locks the door and almost yells, his fangs fully extended.

“A burden, a burden, my wife?!”

My husband’s worry and fears are now rage thanks to his father.

“King Harvey.” Wrapping my arms around his neck, I drag him into a kiss that leaves him tipsy.

“My wife.”

“I am a burden, aren’t I?” Poking his nose, I watch his eyes glow silver. He needs to stay angry to stay sane.

My heart despises my husband’s tears.

This will be my comfort to him. Our bed needs to be broken in anyway.

“No.” King Harvey replies darkly.

“Why don’t you breed me to prove them wrong?”

His taloned hands strip me of my clothing in two slashes. “Who taught you to speak that way?” His voice is a richer deeper baritone, rumbling from the depths of his chest. Pulling him free of his shirt, he steps out of his boots.

“I am no fool.”

“Would they even find pride in you carrying our children to term?”

I laugh bitterly. “Stop stalling.”

“Stalling?” King Harvey hisses as he spins me into a harsh kiss. He tosses me onto the bed midway through the kiss, just to finish it as he presses my body into the bed. His hands greedily wander my body and I shiver when he cups my breasts.

Lifting into his actions, I watch as his eyes now have specks of gold in them. His ears are sharper than his sword.

He makes quick work of his fingers as he slips his hand between my legs and studies me as I strain and gasp against his touch. Blindly, I reach out to grab him and feel how long he is. He picks up speed leaving me panting for him.

It is not long before my mating mark burns. He pulls me to rest on my knees on the bed and he twists so he enters me at an angle. The low sound of him panting in my ear with each thrust makes my thighs tremble.

“A burden.” King Harvey snarls. “MY WIFE.”

A possessive fury overtakes him as he suddenly is moving faster and faster. His clawed hand cups my jaw and he squeezes.

“Y-!”

“Beg.” He commands in my ear. “Beg for me.”

The sense leaves my body as he goes slow suddenly, then crashes into me. Moans move past my mouth and his name is the only one I know.

His moans darken as my name becomes his only.

“P-please.” This becomes too much; he moves faster, and I sob. “Please… Harvey.”

His final howl as I cry out a bit later is almost lyrical.
