Chapter 2 002
The first quest from the Goddess of Boundless Prosperity still burned in Korvian Draethor’s mind.
Spend 150,000 Elyrian Dollars before midnight.
He had already spent nearly sixty thousand on food. Now he needed the rest to serve a purpose.
“Food first,” he muttered. “Then something meaningful.”
Korvian slipped on a plain black mask and rode his battered scooter to a popular fast-food chain in the bustling heart of Velkaryn City. He still didn’t fully trust the Void Card. If it failed, he was ready to vanish into the crowd.
Inside the restaurant, no one paid attention to the shabbily dressed young man — until he pulled out the sleek matte-black card.
Snickers broke out from a table of office workers nearby.
“Look at this clown pulling out a black card.”
“Definitely fake. He probably bought the case to look rich.”
“Watch it get declined. This should be entertaining.”
Korvian ignored them and stepped forward.
“Can I pay with this?” he asked calmly, handing the card to the young female cashier.
The cashier, Thalira, smiled politely at first, but her face froze the instant she took the card. She had been trained to identify authentic Void Cards from the Eternal Crown Bank — the most exclusive financial institution in Elyria.
The weight. The shifting silver runes. The engraved name: Korvian Draethor.
Her eyes widened in shock.
“K-Korvian Draethor…?” she whispered.
Korvian frowned slightly. “Yes, that’s me. Is there a problem?”
Thalira quickly composed herself, cheeks flushing. She knew the infamous rumors — the useless eldest son of the Draethor family, the abandoned young master. Yet here he stood, holding one of the rarest cards in the entire nation.
“No problem at all, sir! The card is valid. You’ve automatically received a 20% discount as a Void Card holder. Would you like access to the private VIP dining room?”
Korvian shook his head. “No need. But I have a large order.”
He requested one hundred portions of fried chicken, pizzas, burgers, fries, and assorted ice creams. Thalira’s jaw dropped, but she immediately began coordinating with other branches.
[Ding!]
The Goddess of Boundless Prosperity sent a message:
“Mortals reveal their true nature the moment vast wealth appears. I’m watching closely, Korvian… will unlimited power corrupt you like so many before you?”
Korvian smiled faintly. Never.
Thirty minutes later, a large delivery truck was fully loaded. Korvian paid the balance without hesitation.
Remaining amount to complete quest: $89,720
As he prepared to leave with the truck, Thalira bowed slightly. “Thank you for your patronage, Mr. Draethor. Please visit us again.”
The same office workers who had mocked him earlier now sat in stunned silence, a few looking genuinely ashamed.
In the passenger seat of the truck, the driver — a middle-aged man named Garrick — glanced at Korvian curiously.
“Where are we taking all this food, sir? Some kind of celebration?”
“The Eternal Watch Orphanage,” Korvian replied.
Garrick looked surprised. “That old place run by the remaining followers of the God of Eternal Moments? Not many people still care about those temples or orphanages these days. Faith has faded.”
Korvian nodded quietly. “My mother used to bring me there when I was a child. She taught me that real fortune should be shared, never hoarded.”
The rest of the drive passed in silence.
When they arrived at the orphanage on the outskirts of Velkaryn City, the children poured out with sparkling eyes. The sight of mountains of fried chicken and ice cream made them erupt in cheers of pure delight.
Garrick scratched his head while unloading. “Sir… no offense, but junk food isn’t the healthiest choice for children.”
Korvian chuckled. “I know. This isn’t their everyday meal — just a rare treat. They deserve to feel special once in a while.”
The orphanage director, an elderly woman known as Matron Sylvana, came out to greet them. She had known Korvian for years. He used to visit with his mother and bring whatever small donations he could afford.
“Korvian… what is all this?” she asked, eyes wide with disbelief. “Did something happen? Did you… get into trouble?”
Korvian laughed softly. “No, Matron. This is honest money. I received an unexpected fortune today.”
Matron Sylvana studied him carefully. She knew how brutally the Draethor family had treated him since his mother’s death. Still, she chose not to press.
“Thank you,” she said, voice thick with emotion. “The children haven’t enjoyed a feast like this in many years.”
As the kids happily devoured the food, a new system notification appeared before Korvian:
[Ding!]
The Goddess of Boundless Prosperity is pleased.
Your actions have slightly increased her influence in the mortal realm.
Continue spreading her name, and greater b
lessings shall follow.
Korvian smiled as he watched the children laughing and playing.
For the first time in years, something warm stirred in his chest.
This was only the beginning!
