Chapter 4 004
Mirelle Vaelith worked as a craft service staff on film sets. Her actual talent and qualifications far exceeded the job — she was a top graduate in Film and Television Production. However, her stepmother, Evie, deliberately kept her in this lowly position to humiliate her for being the daughter of a mistress.
The crew, following Evie’s orders, frequently treated Mirelle with disdain.
“You’re ten minutes late!” Marvin, the producer, barked at her. “The entire crew is starving because of your incompetence!”
Mirelle knew she wasn’t late, but she had no choice but to lower her head. “I’m sorry. There was a long queue at the restaurant.”
“You’re just as useless as your husband,” sneered Lauren, the production accountant.
Laughter erupted across the set.
“I heard her husband is that worthless young master from the Draethor family. What’s his name again? Korvian Draethor!”
“Exactly. The family disgrace. Thank goodness Master Valthor has Sylthar. He’s actually useful.”
“Sylthar is so kind too. He even pleaded with Master Valthor to let Korvian work as a lowly salesman.”
“The useless young master and the illegitimate daughter. What a perfect pair.”
Mirelle gripped the tray tightly, her knuckles turning white. She endured the insults in silence. Though their marriage was arranged and without love, she had grown to respect Korvian. He was the only one who never looked down on her.
“Hey, why are you so quiet?” Lauren taunted. “Aren’t you going to defend your pathetic husband?”
Before Mirelle could respond, a calm but icy voice rang out from behind them.
“Do you enjoy gossiping about me so much?”
Everyone turned around. Korvian Draethor stood there, his expression eerily calm.
The crew’s eyes lit up with malicious excitement. They had humiliated him many times before without any consequences. It proved the Draethor family had truly abandoned him.
“Speak of the devil!” Marvin grinned wickedly. “The useless young master himself has arrived! Everyone, give him a warm welcome!”
Loud mocking applause and laughter filled the area.
Korvian smiled. But this time, the smile didn’t reach his eyes.
“Thank you for the warm welcome,” he said softly. He took a bowl of hot corn soup from Mirelle’s tray and splashed it directly onto Marvin’s face.
Gasps of shock echoed across the set.
Korvian’s voice turned ice-cold. “Where’s the applause now?”
He had completely changed.
Mirelle quickly set the tray down and grabbed his arm. “Korvian, what are you doing?!”
“What I should have done a long time ago,” he replied, his tone fearless.
Marvin roared in fury and tried to slap him. Korvian casually caught his wrist, twisted it with a sickening crack, and then delivered a merciless series of slaps that left the producer’s face swollen and bloody.
The entire crew froze in terror.
“You… you dare?!” Jasper shouted.
Korvian threw Marvin to the ground like trash and turned his gaze toward the others. “Who’s next?”
Lauren tried to run, but Korvian moved faster. A powerful slap sent two of her teeth flying.
“I’m sorry,” Korvian said with mock guilt. “My hand slipped.”
He slapped her again. “Oops, slipped again.”
Russel, the Unit Production Manager and a black belt in taekwondo, grabbed Korvian by the collar. “How dare you hit a woman, you coward!”
In one swift motion, Korvian seized Russel’s arm, twisted it violently, and crushed the bones with raw power.
A horrific scream tore through the air.
The remaining crew members panicked and fled in all directions.
“Hide well!” Korvian shouted after them. “Because if I find you, I’ll make sure you remember this day for the rest of your lives!”
Silence fell over the area.
Mirelle stared at her husband in complete disbelief. In three years of marriage, she had never seen this side of him.
“Will you be okay?” she asked worriedly. “You just assaulted people from influential families. They’ll definitely come after you.”
Korvian turned to her, his expression softening slightly. “Don’t worry. I won’t act recklessly.”
He handed her a helmet. As they got on his old scooter, Mirelle asked quietly, “If you’ve always been this strong… why did you endure all the humiliation for so long?”
Korvian remained silent for a moment before answering.
“I wasn’t ready before. But now… I am.”
Mirelle studied his face carefully, then nodded. “I believe you.”
Korvian took out her phone from his pocket. “You dropped this.”
Mirelle’s eyes widened. “How did you get my phone? I thought it was stolen earlier today.”
“I’ll explain later,” Korvian said, his voice turning grim as he remembered the ambush at the bridge. “For now… let’s go buy clothes and supplies for the orphanage children.”
Mirelle wrapped her arms around his waist as the scooter sped off.
For the first time, she felt that the man she married might not be as simple as everyone believed.
