Chapter 4
I stayed at Chloe’s place for a night.
We drank a lot together, and I poured out the grievances I’d been swallowing for years.
When I finally said I wanted a divorce, Chloe’s eyes turned misty.
“Girl, whatever you want to do, I’ll support you. All I want is for you to be happy.”
Her words moved me, and they healed me a little.
I hugged her and sobbed, letting every pent-up hurt pour out at once.
The next day, I went to the law firm and got the divorce agreement.
Then I drove home.
As soon as I walked in, I saw Jason and Ava sitting in the dining room, eating breakfast.
Ava was wearing my pajamas.
I walked up, face cold, the divorce agreement in hand.
Seeing me, Ava hurried to put on a smile.
“Sis, the power went out at my place last night, so I just slept in your study.”
My gaze fell on the pajamas she was wearing, and I let out a cold, derisive laugh.
Sensing my chill, Ava turned her eyes to Jason.
“Jason, you gave me Sis’s pajamas to change into, but it looks like Sis really minds.”
Looking at that pitiful act, anyone who didn’t know better might think my eyes had cut her like a blade.
And, of course, Jason swallowed the green-tea routine whole.
He frowned at me. “It’s just a set of pajamas. Why are you be mad at her?”
I laughed in disbelief.
I hadn’t said a single word, and yet, because of Ava’s one-sided story, he so easily stuck a guilty label on me.
He’s always like this—forever taking Ava’s side.
Never considering my feelings.
I slapped the divorce agreement down on the table.
“Sign it.”
Jason focused on the bold title—DIVORCE AGREEMENT—glaring and sharp.
“What do you mean? You want a divorce from me?”
“What else?”
I stared straight at him, eyes steady and unflinching.
He seemed angry; his gaze went cold.
“Do you have to be this unreasonable? Making a fuss all the way to divorce?”
I curled my lips into a cold smile.
Even now, he still thought I was just making trouble.
“I’m not making a fuss. Let’s get a divorce.”
In the quiet room, my calm words sounded especially clear.
Seeing we had come to this point, Ava hurried to squeeze out two tears, looking pitifully at Jason.
“I’m sorry, I really didn’t mean to go on that trip with Jason, and I didn’t mean to stay over at your place—please don’t let it get to this because of me. I’m sorry…”
She cried so pitifully you’d think I was some vicious antagonist.
Seeing her cry, Jason’s face filled with heartache.
“What’s the point? Ava has no parents. Her power went out and she just came to crash for a night—do you have to be this petty?”
Looking at that face, I’d already lost any desire to communicate.
“Fine. Since we can’t talk this through, I’ll bring the divorce papers again tomorrow. If you don’t sign tomorrow, I’ll come the day after. I’ll come every day until you sign.”
With that, I picked up the agreement and walked away.
Jason, meanwhile, softly comforted Ava,
Saying I was just jealous and had lost my mind and was making a scene, telling her not to mind it.
What he didn’t know was—this wasn’t a tantrum.
I truly meant to divorce him.
