Chapter 120

After Grandma Jo gave me a clean pair of clothes, I went inside to put them on.

My body still trembled with the aftermath of the unexpected shift as I made my way into the living room.

Grandma Jo and Lucas sat on the couch, their heads huddled together. Their voices lowered to hushed whispers when they saw me finally approaching.

The sight of them sharing such a serious conversation about me sent a shiver down my spine. I didn't know what they were both thinking and quite frankly, I was still terrified by what had just occurred.

I couldn't help but ask aloud, my voice carrying a mix of curiosity and concern, "What's wrong?"

Grandma Jo exchanged a meaningful glance with Lucas before she began to speak. Her eyes, usually warm and comforting, now held a hint of apprehension.

"Shana, have you ever heard of the legend of the white wolf?"

The legend of the white wolf?

I furrowed my brow, racking my brain for any recollection of the tales I might have heard in my childhood.

And then it hit me— everyone, werewolf or not, had grown up hearing about the legend of the white wolf.

It was a story that had been passed down through generations, a mythical tale of a creature said to be the strongest of them all.

"Yeah," I replied slowly, my memories resurfacing. "All children were taught about the white wolf. I remember hearing about it when I was a kid in school. Well really, it was more of a bedtime story. The white wolf is supposed to be the most powerful, right?"

"That's right." Grandma Jo nodded slowly. "The legend goes that the white wolf is a mythical being, a creature of great strength and powerful wisdom. According to the stories, it's not about the white wolf itself, but about who they choose as their mate as well."

"Their mate?" I asked. "What do you mean?"

"Anyone chosen or marked by the white wolf would be the destined one. They're said to be destined, chosen by some ancient force. Together, the two of them have immense strength and power."

I leaned in, my curiosity piqued. "Chosen for what?"

Grandma Jo hesitated for a moment as if she wanted to choose her words carefully.

"Chosen to become stronger, to lead, and to unite. In the ancient legends, it's believed that the white wolf couple could rule over all werewolves, even Alphas. They had the power to bring together the entire werewolf community, to guide them, and to protect them."

My heart raced as I absorbed the severity of her words. The legend was captivating, but it had always been just that— a legend, a bedtime story to entertain children.

"But Grandma Jo, it's just a story, right? I mean, the white wolf doesn't really exist."

Grandma Jo's gaze bore into mine, her eyes searching for something I couldn't quite grasp.

"That's what we've always believed, dear. It's been passed down as a myth, a tale of hope and unity. But now, after what we've witnessed today, I can't help but wonder..."

The three of us sat in silence as we contemplated what this could mean. I had shifted into a white wolf, but did that mean I was the chosen white wolf? That wasn't possible.

I mean.... it couldn't be possible, could it?

Lucas chimed in, his voice was soft but resolute. "Shana, what happened today is... unexplainable."

"That's one word for it," I said.

"It was also extraordinary," Lucas continued. "You shifted into a white wolf, which is incredibly rare, and there has to be a reason for it."

"Why did it happen so late? Why did it take so long?" I asked. "Don't most wolves shift at thirteen? Why did it happen now?"

"Sometimes, you can't predict these things," Grandma Jo said with a sigh, the lines on her face showed her age. "Sometimes, destiny has its own timing, Shana. Maybe you needed to be ready for this moment, both mentally and emotionally."

"So... do you think that's why I was experiencing all of those strange symptoms?" I asked. "Was my body preparing itself?"

"That's a possibility," Lucas spoke. "Maybe it was trying to fight it."

"I don't have all the answers for you," Grandma Jo said. "However, I do know that the legend speaks of the white wolf choosing someone, marking them for a purpose. And perhaps, that purpose is now beginning to reveal itself."

"What purpose could that be?" I asked, feeling a whirlwind of emotions— confusion, excitement, and a tinge of fear.

The idea that I could be the one true white wolf, chosen for something was beyond my comprehension.

Why did it have to be me? What did I offer? I was just Shana... a girl branded as a wolfless freak. What significance did I have that someone else didn't?

The thought of being the white wolf from the legends was both exhilarating and daunting. I didn't know how to process any of this, and my body was still reeling from my earlier shift.

My body felt sore as if I had just exerted it to all possible extremes. And now, my brain was starting to hurt from all of these possibilities.

I wondered how much Grandma Jo or Lucas could help me.

Grandma Jo was wise in her age, but I didn't know if she would be able to help me much. And Lucas might have known something since he was an Alpha. Perhaps his father had shared some kind of secrets with him about our history at some point?

"But what am I supposed to do now? If I really am the white wolf, what's my destiny?" I asked the two of them, hoping that they would be able to give me some kind of answer.

Lucas reached out to grab my hand and his eyes filled with determination as he gazed upon me.

"That's a great question," Lucas said. "It's a bit of a mystery. We'll need to dig deeper into this, our history is so clouded."

"I wish I had the answer for you Shana," Grandma Jo added. "I'm afraid, no one really knows much about this."

"Don't make that face," Lucas spoke again. "We'll figure it out together, Shana. You're not alone in this. We'll learn more about the white wolf legend, about what it means, and why it chose you."

Grandma Jo nodded in agreement. "Yes, I can start by researching our history, and our legends, and seeking guidance from a few elders I know. There's much to uncover, and we'll find the answers together."

"But I don't want anyone to know about this," I said, worried that only more harm would be done. "It would be too dangerous for others to know what happened tonight. If I'm the white wolf, and the legend is true... people will be eager to find me once they know the truth.

"I completely agree," Grandma Jo said with a firm nod. "We don't tell a soul what happened tonight. I will try to conduct research in private and ask questions carefully."

"I won't tell anyone either, Shana." Lucas squeezed my hand carefully. "This secret stays between the three of us. Nobody will ever know the truth."
