Chapter 4 Chapter 4

Kinslee POV

“What do we do with her?” A man asked.

“I don’t know. She’s alive. Someone must have dumped her here,” another man responded.

I stirred, but it felt like my limbs were held together by cement. My breathing laboured and my throat burned.

“Every wolf found at the border must be taken to the King. Even if she was left as wolf bait.”

I drifted in and out of consciousness when I was carried from the border. I just wanted to sleep. I didn’t want to confront all the questions and scenarios. When the object carrying me came to an abrupt halt, my eyes popped open.

I could smell the morning dew and the moisture in the air. I looked around, and it was the early hours of the morning.

Shit, this can’t be good.

“W-Where am I?” My raspy voice was evidence of a dry throat.

“You’re awake now, huh? Now you’re going to answer some questions.”

I looked down and realised I was covered in leaves and murk. My clothes were missing. My eyes went wide. I dragged the leaves to my chest to hide myself from the four men who sounded me.

“I’m Kinslee De Monte, from the De Monte Wolves Pack,” I said, quickly.

They shared glances. “Now what would the daughter of a prominent Alpha being doing in the middle of the Vaneka Territory?”

“Vaneka Territory?” My voice cracked.

“Yes, territory of the Lycan King.”

My heart dropped. How did I end up here? The only thing I could recall was flashes of me and my sister. We went up to the tower. It was the place we escaped to when we were younger.

“She’s an imposter. She’s a spy from our enemies. I wanna know who sent her.”

I left a trail of leaves behind as the men dragged me into a cold building.

“Take her to the basement,” the order came.

The atmosphere changed, and the lightning shifted. They threw me in a pile of red dirt.

“I’m not lying. I’m Kinslee De Monte. I don’t know how I got here.”

“Shut up!”

The basement was massive. It could be another house on its own, except it was dusty and dark.

“She’s a nice piece of meat,” a big oaf with a pot belly laughed.

“You’re a nice present for us. You smell so good even if you’re covered in shit!”

I shuffled away from them.

“Don’t run, little one. We want to play.”

“Get off me,” I hissed.

They crowded me. The scents of their lust attacked my nostrils. I recoiled. There was nowhere to run. Nowhere to hide.

“There better be a good explanation for why you woke me up!” A deep drawl with a venomous sting to it filled the room.

My bottle rattled like an empty jar. I wrapped my arms around myself to hide my body.

“Your Highness,” the men said in unison.

“What the fuck is this?” Lycan King Kyan demanded.

“A spy was found outside the southern border. She’s claiming to be Alpha Dillion De Monte’s daughter,” the guard’s voice trembled.

I felt the heavy, deadly presence behind me. If only the ground could open up and swallow me. Fabric brushed my back before he appeared in front of me.

My heart raced rapidly. Blood rushed to my ears, and my wolf raised her head.

His scent was like a rope around my neck, dragging me forward. He bent down to my level. His green eyes paralysed me and held the words on my tongue that were about to tumble out.

He reached out and grabbed my chin.

My wolf clawed at me from every angle. Her howl filled my mind and forced me to say the dreaded word! The closer he got, the harder it was to ignore his scent. I stared into the eyes of a vicious monster. A man who destroyed villages and turned women into widows.

Yet, I couldn’t deny the gravitational pull between us.

“This is interesting,” he said.

I couldn’t take it anymore. If I didn’t speak, I would break.

“M-Mate,” I whispered, only loud enough for him to hear.

He shook his head. “Don’t say that.”

My heart shattered, and my wolf went dead silent.

“What?”

He grabbed my face roughly. His hand was like fire on my skin. “Keep your mouth shut. Not here. Not now.”

I swallowed the lump that formed in my throat. I squeezed my thighs closed, but that didn’t stop the desperate ache between my legs. I’d never felt this way with anyone before. I’d never known the mate bond to manifest with such force and so far.

“What’s this? A little present?” A man dressed in black silk pyjamas said.

Kyan stood and glanced at the new addition to the audience. “A spy, a rogue, I’ve got no fucking idea.”

“A very nice surprise instead.”

“Finn, why don’t you go back to bed?”

“Funny of you to assume I was even asleep,” Fin responded.

Finn lowered to my level. He was a chiselled man with bright blue eyes and plump pink lips. He brushed the mud off my face and lifted my hair.

“I’m Kinslee De Monte. My father’s pack is very powerful. He’ll come for me,” I bluffed.

Finn smirked. “Kinslee De Monte is miles away at the Academy. That might be the least of our problems, though,” Killian said.

He stood. Kyan looked down at me with emotions I didn’t understand. He was a tyrant, he could still kill me and feel no remorse.

“What are you talking about?” Kyan asked.

“Look at her shoulder. She has the mark of Morrigana.”

A collective gasp filled the basement. I glanced at my shoulder. The memories flooded back instantly.

I got the good mark the mark of Mayari and Reya got the bad mark. Reya did more than switch our destinies. She stole my life.

My twin sister killed me.
