Chapter 6 Chapter 6
Kyan POV
“Fuck them all,” I muttered.
I climbed off of her slowly, and my wolf, Draven, growled at me. If he could knock me out, he would.
I climbed off of her. Her frightened and confused expression made me angrier.
Can’t they mind their own business? I made my choice, and they don’t need to understand why.
“What am I doing? What are you doing in my bedroom? Does this look like the bonfire circle? Have my private chambers turned into a free-for-all club?”
Griffin was my brother, and Finn was the pack’s highly ranked lycan. He was our cousin from the extended family.
“I more than anyone knows what it’s like to think with your dick and not your head. This has gone too far! She’s dangerous!”
“No, I’m not,” the little mouse sat up slowly.
I growled. I didn’t want my brothers to see what was mine.
She saw that I was mad at her for speaking. Anyway, she picked the robe and covered her body. She said her name was Kinslee De Monte, but Kinslee De Monte was miles away at the Aldercrest Academy. An Academy that my pack had a hand in founding, and that my brother and I taught at regularly.
Clearly, whoever she was had suffered great trauma.
“So, sweetheart. Tell me how you ended up in our territory?” Finn asked.
“I’ll ask the questions, Finn.”
I marched to the bedside table and picked up the phone connected to the castle.
“Send the omegas up. My guest needs a bath.”
“Yes, your Highness.”
I hung up.
“Kyan, what’s wrong with you?” Griffin asked.
Griffin was a man of few words.
“I’m the mad King, there’s a lot that’s wrong with me.”
Griffin grumbled.
“What’s your name?” He directed his question towards her.
“Kinslee De Monte,” she said firmly.
“We can’t know for sure until she’s cleaned up,” Finn mumbled.
“We should ask around if Kinslee’s missing from the academy. Last I checked, all the heirs are at the school.”
I nodded. Griffin was right. It was worth a check.
Since she insisted on being called Kinslee, I’d call her Kinslee. She trembled, which tugged at my broken heartstrings. I didn’t want or need a mate, but my wolf was telling me to protect this girl with every fibre of my being.
But I didn’t want her. I was the Hybrid King. I’d ruled without a Luna, and I planned to continue that way.
A knock came from the double doors. I ordered them to enter. Two omegas entered, carrying sponges and soap.
“I can bathe myself. I’m not handicapped,” Kinslee protested.
Finn grinned. “Feisty.”
“Look at you, you’re filthy!” I barked.
“I know that,” she mumbled. “Doesn’t mean I can’t clean myself.”
“You need all the help you can get,” Griffin said, softer than I.
“You need a bath anyway,” I grumbled. “Just go.”
Kinslee glared at me, still holding the robe tightly to her chest. She got up and followed the omegas to my private bathroom. My wolf whimpered when he watched her go.
I couldn’t fool myself. She was gorgeous, even covered in mud and debris.
I collapsed on the edge of the bed and ran a hand over my hair. I fucked up. I can’t consummate the mate bond. It’ll do more than damage me. It might kill her.
That’s if she doesn’t kill me first.
“Can’t you be a little gentlemanly? She’s obviously gone through a lot,” Griffin yelled at me.
You would assume he was the older brother, but I was. I was my father’s attempt at breaking the family curse, but he only made things worse.
“I can see that, Griffin,” I growled.
“How do you know this isn’t a plot from our enemies? She’s pretending to be a formidable Alpha’s daughter. Who does that?” Finn frowned.
“We don’t know she’s lying,” I grumbled.
“That’s the least of our problems, Finn,” Griffin hissed. “The council’s talking. They can’t get passed the morrigana mark.”
“Neither can I,” Finn added.
“Are you seriously going to let her stay?” Griffin demanded.
“Let me investigate the mark,” I simply replied.
“You won’t have long. The council wants answers,” Griffin stated.
I marched to the window and overlooked my territory. I was putting a lot at stake here. Then I thought of her seductive scent that sent tingles up my spine and straight to my groin.
Griffin turned to Finn, “Head over to the academy. Make sure Kinslee’s there.”
Finn turned to me, hoping I would veto Griffin’s request. I nodded instead.
“Yes, your Highness.” Finn turned and walked out.
Griffin shut the doors and growled.
“We’re alone. Tell me the truth, what the hell is going on? You wouldn’t do something this reckless for a piece of pussy, especially if she possesses pure evil!”
She’s as innocent as a baby mouse. That’s what my wolf says. He’s gotten me into more trouble than I can count.
“Is she your fated mate?” Griffin asked cautiously.
I glared at him. “No,” I said firmly.
“Then what is this all about?”
“I want her. I’ll take her as my omega. When I’m done with her, I’ll move on. Knowing me, that won’t be long, right brother?”
My plan wouldn’t work. Taking her as my omega meant sleeping with her, and I couldn’t do that. The only option was rejection. My wolf hated that idea more than the thought of someone invading my pack.
Griffin shook his head. “What about Loretta?”
I clenched her jaw. “What about her?”
“How’s she going to feel about you flashing your new omega in front of her?”
“I won’t do it in front of her. I’ll see her later, okay?”
Griffin nodded, but he wasn’t satisfied.
He was more concerned about my former consort than I was sometimes. It was just easier to forget what happened than it was to confront the pain.
The omega women exited the bathroom, but Kinslee wasn’t with them. They bowed before they walked out of my room.
“Do what you want, Kyan, but be respectful of Loretta. She’s the mother of your child.”
I grabbed his shirt. “Yes, she would have been. You don’t need to remind me of the death of my child. Now get out.”
Griffin mock bowed and marched out of my room.
“Where the hell is she?”
She hadn’t come out yet. I marched into the bathroom.
“Kinslee!”
The tub was a mini indoor swimming pool. Bottles of shampoo and soap were on the floor. The water was still, and Kinslee was nowhere in the room.
“Fuck.”
I ran and dove into the tub. Her body came into view at the bottom of the tub.
