Chapter 2 The night I met the monster

Emily’s pov

Five minutes later, I had already worn my gloves and was prepared to go. But I was just waiting for penny to get back.

“Let’s go em.” Penny suddenly yelled behind me, startling me.

She’s such a walking dead! Well, she is actually dead.

“Do you want to give me a heart attack?” I yelled back at her.

She rolled her eyes at me and exited my room through my door.

Wow, what a rare sight to see because she’s always jumping out a window or anywhere high in general.

This gown makes me feel puffy but it’s also very lightweight to me.

Few minutes later, we were already in a limousine that belonged her family. We should be at the palace in a few minutes.

“Don’t you find it weird that the king is still a bachelor?” I asked, breaking the silence.

She looked up from her phone and faced me.

“It is really weird. He should be about three hundred plus years old but he still looks twenty six.” She said, shocking me a with that information.

Damn! That man is old.

“But I actually learnt something from my grandfather.” She said in a skeptical tone. Her grandfather is the supreme commander of all warriors, which is the current highest ranking.

“Werewolf are granted mates by their so called moon goddess. They’re equal and soulmate which they would spend an eternity with but it’s mostly between werewolves anyways.” She explained. “Since he is also a werewolf, maybe he hasn’t been granted a mate yet.”

I scoffed internally. Of course he doesn’t have a mate, why would the so called moon goddess grant a monster like him a mate.

“Well, I guess he deserves it.” I shrugged and Penny just gave me a pointed look.

“Here we are ma’am.” The driver suddenly spoke up.

I looked outside the window and there was the Hamilton palace. It was the most beautiful and mystical thing I’ve ever seen. It has always stood out in all of blackthorn. I’ve always felt a sense of longing whenever I drive past the palace.

But… what was I longing for? Not to forget that I felt like I was being watched every time.

It was massive castle, with high gothic towers rising into the now dark, cloudy sky. Its black walls were covered with intricate carvings, pointed arches and narrow windows that were glowing with warm golden lights. Several other towers surrounded the main building, with sharp spikes on each of it.

A large stone bridge led to the grand entrance of the castle. Old fashioned lanterns were lined up on the walls of the bridge, casting a warm glow on the pavement. Neatly trimmed gardens surrounded the castle, making the whole place look grand, ancient and very intimidating.

A royal footman opened the door, lowered his head to greet me then extended his hand for me to grab. Good thing I wore a glove because I do not like when strangers touch me.

I held his hand and carefully came down from the car. Penny came down right behind me and helped me to adjust my gown.

Penny and I linked our arms together and walked inside the castle.

I’m sure my jaw was already touching the ground.

The entrance was beautiful with a touch of mystery. A grand staircase stood in the center, leading to the upper floors with tall pillars and carved walls surrounding the room. While old paintings and statuses filled the walls.

The only light came from candles hanging along the walls and a huge chandelier above.

“Close your mouth before a bug goes in.” Penny chuckled beside me.

Maids were moving from one place to another while carrying food trays, drinks and other stuff.

“Hello ladies,” a butler suddenly appeared behind us. “Come this way to the ball room.”

“Thank you sir.” I politely replied.

We passed through a door, climbed up the stairs that was behind the door and walked down the hallway way till we stopped infront of a large wooden door.

The butler opened the door and we walked in.

The ballroom was very beautiful and bright. A huge chandelier hung in the center of the ceiling, its brightness bringing warmth to the room as it made the wall paintings and carvings look ethereal. The dance had already begun as I looked down from where I stood.

The staircase leading the ground floor was few feet’s away from me.

“I’m thirsty. Should I get you a drink too?” Penny asked me and I nodded in reply.

She turned around and left. I had this warm overwhelming feeling deep in my chest.

I started walking the other way, farther away from the staircase since my parents could be anywhere.

As I walked, I received a few stares from people on the upper floor as they whispered,

“Who is she?.”

“She’s so beautiful.”

“Is she a princess?”

I genuinely felt uncomfortable by the stares as I wasn’t used to it.

I continued looking down at the dance floor without looking up at where I was going. Then I suddenly bumped into a hard wall.

Ouch.

I placed my hand in the side of my head that was hurting. But I don’t recall seeing a wall when I looked up before, unless it wasn’t a wall I bumped into.

Next thing I heard was people greeting with respect.

“welcome your majesty.” The people around me said, their voice polite and graceful.

Your majesty?!

I quickly look up and my eyes widened in shock, a jolt of embarrassment and fear running up my spine.

King Caesar stood infront of me in all his handsome glory. His light blonde hair was slightly tousled, his golden eyes carried a calm and intimidating gaze as he stared down at me. He had a pointed nose, a warm thin pink lips and a sharp jawline. He wore a black velvet coat designed with gold embroidery, over a loose white shirt that was complimented by layered gold chains and a unique crystal pendant. He wore a fitted trouser as a black-gold belt sits above it, and a black polished shoes. Finished with a white and velvet royal mantle draped over his shoulders.

He truly looks like a Greek god.

“What I’m I thinking?” I mentally scolded myself. I’m meant to be thinking about if he’s going to kill me.

I’ll think of a way to escape him.

I quickly bowed my head and apologized. “I’m so sorry your majesty. I didn’t see you coming, please forgive my ignorant self.”

My words were rushed but he still didn’t say anything. His eyes were still on me, as if looking deep into my soul.

I started feeling a sense of warmth spread throughout my body, a suddenly pull or should I say attraction started clouding my eyes.

Why was I feeling this way towards him?

I quickly took a step back and gave him a look of confusion before holding both sides of my gown and bolting out of the ballroom.

What was he doing to me?

I asked myself as I quickly went far away from the loud music and crowded people.

Somehow, I found myself in the open field behind the castle. My vampire speed can be a little over the top sometimes.

I started walking slowly, maybe it was a huge mistake coming here tonight. It was my first time seeing him in person and I can’t believe this happened.

What if word gets to my parents? But I don’t think they should be able to know it was me since I didn’t come face to face with them and no one knows I’m related to them.

All of a sudden, a deep masculine voice that sent a shiver down my spine growled behind me.

“Why did you run away, love?”

What have I gotten myself into tonight?
