Chapter 4 An unknown secret

Emily’s pov

I swear I shouldn’t have gone anywhere. I know I shouldn’t have but I did anyways.

This gown was so difficult to run in that I almost tripped twice. I even had to sneak past the guards that penny had snapped their necks. And trust me when I said it was easy to get past them without being caught but I made sure I wouldn’t be caught since I got in through the forest behind the house.

It was beneficial to me too, so my mother would perceive the scent of the forest on me.

Though it felt so weird entering the forest after what happened years ago. I still have goosebumps and nightmares whenever I remember what happened.

I stopped at the left wing of the house where my room was located and jumped so high till I landed on my balcony. I pulled off my shoes and held it in one hand and walked gently into my room.

Thank God I left the lights on. I wanted everyone to believe I’ve been in the estate all day.

I quickly walked into my dressing room and tried to take of my clothes but one of the strings of the corset was hooked.

“Fuck! How the hell did penny tie this shit.” I cursed lowly, starting to feel irritated by it.

Just then, I heard the car pull up in the circular driveway.

God I’m so fucked.

“I’m heading to Emily’s room, you two go freshen up.” My mum said from where she was.

I used my strength to tear the corset, slipped out of it and carried my ball gown from the floor. I shoved the gown and shoes into a cabinet on the back side of the island in the middle of my dressing room. I quickly stripped out of my under garments and dropped them into my laundry basket before walking through the door that was connected to my dressing room and walked into my bathroom steadily. I made sure I was walking in a way that wasn’t too suspicious because I’m very sure my mother would be listen for any odd sounds coming from my bedroom.

Before I left for the ball, I had made sure my bathtub was filled with water and soap before I left for the ball.

I climbed the double steps of the bathtub, then stepped inside it and soaking myself in and rested my back on the cool ceramic of the tub.

The bathroom was filled with the scent of my strawberry soap that was in the water.

I let out a deep sigh of content.

I don’t know what my mother would do when she gets in here, but I know it’ll be something wicked. I could hear her footsteps walking down my hallway. My sister lived in the right wing of the house while my parents lived in the middle. Downstairs was for the kitchen, library and other rooms. There was a guest house outside the house for visitors, because my parents didn’t like having people sleep in the house with us since they are not sure of what I am capable of doing. Yet.

My room door was pushed opened, my mum’s heels clicking sharply against the marble floor. Then she opened the door to my bathroom.

She walked in gracefully.

She was wearing a regal emerald green gown, the fitted bodice was embroidered with gold and jewels, and a sheer cape was trailing behind her. It finished with an emerald green diamond necklace and earrings.

The color matched her green eyes perfectly. Her and Evelyn had the same eye colors but we had the same facial features. I had brown eyes like my father, not until it turned deep blue six years ago.

My mother looked so elegant, beautiful and innocent but no one would know that behind that fake innocent face was a bitchy, wicked and self centered soul.

“Welcome back mother.” I gave her a tight lipped smile as I stared at her from inside the bathtub.

“How was the ball?”

She stared at me with a blank face, her eyes were so cold that it felt like it was slicing into my skin.

She walked towards the tub slowly, sat on the edge beside me and faced the windows opposite the bathtub.

“It was spectacular to be honest.” She muttered, her right hand rested on my shoulders and massaged gently.

“You see, your father and I took Evelyn to see the king about making her his wife.” Her voice was calm, collected and void of any emotion.

“Well that’s a good news mother. So what did he say?” I asked, trying to make my voice to sound sincere.

They’ve been trying to find a good opportunity to speak to the king about marrying Evelyn. Every bachelor in blackthorn and England in general all wanted Evelyn to be their wife.

But I doubt the king would want a pretentious bitch like Evelyn to be his wife, and I don’t want him to be my brother in law. Not after what occurred tonight.

“Unfortunately, he declined. He looked Evelyn with pure disgust in his eyes and said ‘I hate pick me bitches.’” She looked me in the eye.

I wish I could laugh right now but I can’t.

“Ohh, that’s mean.” I said sarcastically, I wish I was there to see the look on her face. It would have been so hilarious.

Next thing I felt was a sharp sting in my shoulder. I let out a cry of pain, tears already staining the side of my eyes.

The smell of blood filled my nostrils.

My mother had pierced my skin with a finger and dug it deeply into my skin. I looked down at the water, it already had the color red spreading slowly in the water.

“Do not open your mouth until I am done talking or I ask you to speak.” She clenched her teeth, her eyes turning slightly red and black veins appearing underneath her eyes.

I whimpered and slowly nodded my head.

Her eyes were back to normal and she looked away. But she didn’t remove her finger from inside my flesh, instead she kept pushing it in the more.

“Then king Caesar asked us to never bring the topic before him again and he left.” Then she turned to me with a look of anger and disgust.

“Now, I want you to tell me why I was hearing about a girl that piqued the kings interest. Hmm?” She raised an eyebrow at me.

One thing I desperately hate about my mother is that she is always a step ahead of everyone else. That’s how her gold digging ass was able to marry my father.

Fucking smart bitch.

Stay calm Emily, any reaction I give would be used against me.

“I don’t understand what you mean mother.” I murmured, my words sounding breathy but firm.

She removed her finger from my shoulder and I signed in relief. But I knew the torture wasn’t over.

“Ahhhhh!” I screamed, as she used her five fingers to pierce into my back, the side where my heart is.

Evil bitch!

“Don’t you dare lie to me Emily.” She gritted, her eyes filled with anger as she stared at me through the mirror.

Tears immediately stared to pour out of my eyes.

“I swear mother, I have no idea what you’re talking about.” I whimpered. My back hurts so much but I can’t heal since her hand is inside my skin. But my shoulder has healed already.

It felt like her fingers were burning my open flesh.

“Did you go to the ball this evening? Be truthful and I’ll try not to rip your fucking heart out.” She spat.

I swear I hate her fucking guts.

“I didn’t go there at all.” I croaked out, my throat feeling so dry and squeezed.

She scoffed loudly. Then she dug her finger deeper into my back, I could now feel her nails poking my heart.

I groaned in pain. Trying not to give her the reaction she wants.

“I swear I only went for a run in the forest this evening. But I didn’t go anywhere else.” I lied, locking my eyes with her.

“The forest?” She drawled.

“Urghhhh.” I arched my back in pain as she started piercing into my heart.

“Didn’t your father and I warn you not to ever go into that forest!” She snarled at me.

She removed her now bloody fingers from me and slapped me across the face. My face flew to my right hand side, my cheeks stinging.

“You know are an abomination to the supernatural world right? The most important instructions we gave you was to never step foot into that forest and you defied our orders!” She yelled at me.

“I wish your stupid self died when that witch coven kidnapped you six years ago.”

My face was now flooded with tears as she spat filthy words at me.

Why must she always remind me of my burden?!
