Chapter 6 Is She the Mistress?
These words were like a sharp knife, stabbing hard into Michael's heart!
He stared at Seraphina in a daze, his lips moving as if to say something, but no words came out.
Seeing Michael at a loss for words after Seraphina's remarks, Susan coughed weakly, her voice frail and full of grievance.
"Michael, forget it. Don't fight with Seraphina because of me. She's just upset about something, I understand. I'm fine, just a bit shaken and uncomfortable..."
Hearing this, Seraphina shot her a cold glare.
So she was only cursing out this scumbag, not her?
Seeing Susan's fake act of kindness, Seraphina couldn't hold back anymore and shot back without mercy: "Uncomfortable? Susan, I've never seen anyone with a terminal illness who doesn't have long to live looking so rosy-cheeked, full of energy, and wandering around every day."
"If nothing else, your health is at least better than mine. Stop playing the victim. Keep pretending and you might actually curse yourself to death!"
Susan's face instantly turned deathly pale, a flash of panic crossing her eyes before she quickly covered it up.
She buried her head in Michael's arms, crying even more pitifully.
"Seraphina, how can you misunderstand me like this..."
Just then, a crisp child's voice suddenly reached everyone's ears.
"Mommy, you're so mean!"
"You always tell me to be polite and be a good child, but when you do something wrong, you won't apologize. You're even cursing Susan like this. You don't deserve to be my mommy!"
Seraphina looked toward the voice and saw Janna standing not far away, her little brows furrowed, looking at her angrily with eyes full of disappointment and disgust.
Michael had brought Janna along at some point...
Janna's accusations, word by word, made Seraphina's heart clench painfully!
Although she had long known that Michael and Susan had taught her daughter to lose all sense of right and wrong, hearing Janna say such things with her own ears still made her heart convulse involuntarily.
A wave of sorrow washed over her...
She looked at Janna, her lips curling into a cold smile.
"Is that so? Since you think Susan is so good, so morally upstanding, and that I don't deserve to be your mother, then go ahead and recognize her as your mother."
"From now on, I'll act like I never gave birth to a daughter like you, like I never had a child like you!"
"But if you want me to apologize to Susan, impossible!"
Seraphina said the last sentence with absolute finality.
At that moment, everyone froze.
Janna looked at Seraphina's cold eyes and inexplicably felt panicked.
Was Seraphina really giving up on her?
Janna's eyes instantly reddened, tears welling up.
Seraphina couldn't be bothered with them anymore. She turned to Patrick beside her and said calmly, "Patrick, let's go."
Patrick nodded, giving Seraphina a reassuring look before standing up and leaving with her.
Michael and Janna were so stunned they forgot to stop them, only able to stare blankly at their retreating figures, feeling inexplicably upset.
Susan took in Michael and Janna's expressions, and a sense of crisis immediately rose in her heart.
She quickly put on an act of labored breathing, clutching her chest with her hand, her body trembling slightly, looking like she was about to faint.
Michael immediately snapped back to attention. No longer caring about Seraphina's departing figure, he nervously held Susan, his face changing drastically.
"Susan, what's wrong? Are you uncomfortable somewhere? Don't scare me!"
"I'm fine, just having trouble breathing," Susan's voice was barely audible, looking extremely weak.
Seeing this, Michael didn't dare delay any longer. He immediately scooped Susan up in his arms and rushed toward the restaurant exit.
"I'm taking you to the hospital, right now!"
At that moment, he even forgot about his own daughter Janna.
Watching Michael run off with Susan, and with Seraphina saying she didn't want her anymore, Janna felt more and more wronged.
Her little mouth turned down as she quickly moved her short legs, running and shouting, "Daddy, wait for me..."
Just as Janna was running out of breath, a child about her age suddenly ran over.
The child grabbed her arm, looking at her admiringly: "You're so amazing! You actually helped your mom get rid of the homewrecker! You're so brave!"
Janna froze.
She looked at the child in confusion, tilting her head: "Homewrecker? What does that mean?"
The child pursed their lips, their expression becoming disdainful, as if finding it incredible that she didn't even know this!
"You don't even know that? How dumb!"
"It means in a family, there should only be a daddy and mommy, plus the kids. Then suddenly a bad woman comes in, clinging to the daddy, making mommy and daddy fight, even wanting to divorce. That bad woman is the homewrecker!"
"A homewrecker is someone who destroys other people's families!"
The child's words, sentence by sentence, clearly entered Janna's ears.
She nodded as if half-understanding, but her little mind started racing...
Was Susan the homewrecker they were talking about?
But she wasn't a bad woman.
Susan was nice, even nicer to her than Seraphina!
On the way to the hospital, Susan leaned against Michael, gradually calming her breathing.
She looked at Michael's anxious expression and said softly, "Michael, I'm much better now. Don't worry. We don't need to go to the hospital, it's too much trouble."
"No, we have to go."
Michael's attitude was firm, leaving no room for discussion, his eyes full of frost.
"You've been so wronged and frightened, you must go to the hospital for a full checkup to make sure you're okay."
Seeing Michael so insistent, Susan didn't refuse anymore. Her voice was weak, with a hint of gratitude: "Michael, thank you for always taking such good care of me."
Just then, Janna, sitting beside them, suddenly spoke up out of nowhere.
"Daddy, is Susan a homewrecker?"
Her voice was childish, yet it made the atmosphere in the entire car freeze instantly.
The driver's hand shook, nearly turning the steering wheel the wrong way, and the car lurched violently!
Michael's face instantly darkened. He looked down at Janna, his tone stern: "Janna, do you know what you're saying? Who taught you to say these things? Don't ever say that again!"
"Susan is not a homewrecker. She's just in poor health, a pitiful person. We need to take good care of her, understand?"
Janna was startled by his scolding, her eyes immediately reddening.
"But I didn't say it first..."
Hearing this, Michael immediately demanded coldly, "Who taught you such vicious words? Tell me!"
