Chapter 8: Want to Be Your Lackey

The chill in James's tone made Xavier and Wesley shiver involuntarily.

They knew James was serious - if they really leaked his whereabouts, James would definitely not let them off.

Wesley bit his lip, glanced at Xavier who was keeping his head down in silence, and let out a heavy sigh, his face full of reluctance.

He really wanted to follow James, not only to escape the Davis family's control but also to learn some serious skills. But James's attitude was firm, and there was nothing he could do about it.

Despite his reluctance, Wesley quickly grabbed Xavier's hand and ran toward the parking lot exit, not daring to linger for even a moment, afraid that James might change his mind and come after them.

Xavier didn't resist either, letting Wesley drag him along, head down, feeling a wave of disappointment, though he knew this was the best outcome.

Watching the two hurriedly leave, James's eyes remained cold. He turned to look at Bianca and Cleo, his tone much gentler,

"Alright, they're gone. Let's go in too. This is our safe house. We'll be staying here temporarily from now on. No one will come bother us."

With that, he walked toward a corner of the parking lot...

In his earpiece came Matthew's voice from the command center.

"Boss, safe house B-level defense is activated. These two ladies are absolutely gorgeous! No wonder you never dated anyone! Turns out you had women waiting for you~"

Matthew teased.

"Let me see!"

Daniel's voice chimed in too.

"Matthew, check out those two guys from earlier."

"Boss, you're not seriously thinking about taking them on as followers, are you?"

Matthew exclaimed dramatically,

"That Xavier might barely qualify for perimeter security, but that Wesley absolutely cannot join our company!"

"Did I say I wanted them in our company?"

James's voice was cold.

Matthew shuddered.

"Yes, boss, I'll check right away."

Joking around was fine normally, but once James spoke coldly, it meant he didn't want to chat.

The B-level safe house only had one metal staircase from the outside.

Once inside, the space was huge.

Not only was it fully stocked with living supplies, but there were actually blooming flowers and growing vegetables!

"There's an ecosystem in here?"

The moment Bianca saw the setup inside, she was shocked.

Because these plants proved that this safe house wasn't specially prepared for this emergency - it had been here all along!

"Always prepared, for you two."

James opened a wardrobe. Cleo wasn't interested in the fruits and vegetables.

What caught her eye were the luxury brand clothes hanging in the cabinets James opened.

"James..."

Just as Bianca started to speak, the doorbell rang.

James checked the surveillance on his phone, then nodded at the camera in the corner of the ceiling.

The door opened immediately.

Then, rows of robots carrying things in their hands walked in smoothly and quickly, turning into the basement.

Bianca saw those familiar beakers... and was instantly drawn into the basement.

Inside was a one-to-one replica of a laboratory.

"You can continue doing what you love, Bianca. I'll handle the matter with your father. It's very safe here, but I need you and Cleo to stay here for now. Give me a week, and you'll be able to go out. If you really can't stand being cooped up inside, I can also arrange for you to go to Novaria first."

"No, James, I don't want to go anywhere until I see my father return safely."

"Okay, wait for me."

After settling Bianca and Cleo, James rode his motorcycle back to the supermarket alone.

A group of men in black were supporting each other while wiping blood from the corners of their mouths.

Bodyguard A: "Didn't they say there were only two women? What's the deal with that guy!"

Bodyguard B: "Stop talking! Hurry back and report! Damn it! Since when does the Ghost Legion have such skilled bodyguards!"

As the sound of cars roared away, James followed behind and soon arrived at a private beach villa with half a bay of ocean - the Davis Villa.

"Private property! No entry!"

James was stopped.

He thought for a moment, chose not to force his way through, saluted, pretended to be lost, then left stylishly.

So it really is the Davis family!

But when James came from Novaria, he had already investigated - the Davis family's business only covered finance and real estate. When did they get involved in arms dealing?

The phone rang.

"Hello! Boss, we checked those two guys. It's exactly as they said - both are orphans with no other forces or identities behind them.

That kid Xavier had talent since childhood and could have entered a proper boxing club,

but we found out that to protect that Wesley guy, he gave up the invitation from the official boxing club and took an entry ticket to underground boxing instead.

Now, the money he earns from each fight basically all goes to paying off debts.

Who would've thought that kid actually has some loyalty."

Matthew was a very professional investigator.

His intelligence had never been wrong.

As James rode his motorcycle into the parking lot, he sensed two gazes watching the direction of the safe house.

James took off his helmet, his brow furrowing slightly, his aura instantly becoming alert. Then, he reached out and grabbed from both sides of the railing—

"Who is it! You scared me to death! Let me go!"

A startled cry broke the silence. Wesley was grabbed by the back of his collar by a cold, powerful hand, lifted completely off the ground.

He was trembling all over, frantically trying to pry the hand off, his voice nearly crying,

"We didn't do anything, nothing bad, we were just protecting, protecting those two ladies.

Boss, boss! Please show mercy, we really meant no harm!"

James's eyes were cold. He applied slight pressure with his hand, and Wesley's face instantly turned bright red. Xavier was also pinned by the shoulder with his other hand.

Before the two could say more, James pushed with his hand, and Wesley and Xavier fell to the ground, hitting the stones in front of the door hard. Wesley grimaced in pain but didn't dare complain.

Wesley quickly scrambled up on all fours, turning around with a fawning smile on his face, rubbing his hands as he approached James, bowing like a servant,

"Boss, we really didn't do anything bad, we were just here helping you guard the two beautiful ladies.

You just went out to handle business, right?

Xavier and I were worried about their safety, so we came back.

Really, really, we swear we didn't tell anyone about your whereabouts, didn't leak anything!"

Xavier slowly got up from the ground, his face flushed red, even his ears burning hot.
