Chapter 6 It doesn't matter...

Zyle.

I piled the severed bodies together, stacking them on each other.

My mind naturally drifted to Monroe—the girl I couldn't understand.

I couldn't shake off the look in her eyes when she saw me strutting towards her.

That mixture of fear, intrigue, and curiosity nudged at me in a certain way.

Made me want to show her what more I could do. Play with her curiosity.

Then he showed up.

And that relief that washed over her face when he did, didn't sit well with me.

Why? I don't know.

But I hated it.

The feeling was foreign.

Retching my stomach and making me irritable.

It took all the willpower in my being not to run over and sever the boy's head from his body.

“Oh look, it's Mr Soon to be Alpha!” someone said from behind me while approaching.

I didn't have to turn around to know it was Brian. I released my unconsciously clenched fists.

“And look, he's butt naked.” He mocked, at which I decided to look at him.

Looking at Brian always felt weird because it was as if I was looking into a mirror, except our eye colour was different.

“How did you find me?” I asked in an uninterested tone.

“It's not so difficult to. After all your pheromones are everywhere.” he shrugged tossing a pair of pants my way.

I wore it and fondled with the zip.

“You should really work on your shifting dude, It's disgusting walking into you butt naked all the damn time.”

“Shut up,” I said coolly. His voice was getting annoying.

“She is pretty, not gonna lie.” He said.

I snapped my head towards him to see him licking his lips.

“Wonder how she tastes.”

Something in me snapped.

My fist found his jaw and he was staggering backwards in no time. I stood watching him recollect himself.

A string of blood ran down his mouth but I was certain the injury had already healed, no thanks to our rejuvenative ability.

“Wow…look how riled up you are about her. I was skeptical at first.” His eyes widened as he thumbed the blood off his chin.

“Why would Zyle risk showing his true form to humans and also killing them. “

“Stop talking, Brian!”

“Who knew it was because of the beta?” I grabbed onto his collar and drew him close, so that our faces were a few inches apart.

“Shut. Up.” I warned, but Brian was not one to back down. Aside from sharing almost everything, we also shared the same temperament and stubbornness. His, gets on my fucking nerves.

“You fancy her?” I wondered if he was stating or questioning.

“No!” I spat. “ I have a duty to protect her before the full moon and you aren't going to touch her.” I peered into his eyes and watched as a smile spread across his lips.

“Why does it matter if I do?” He pressed and I was writing with fury at that point.

“You.will.not.touch.her!” I spelled out as menacingly as I could.

“Okay…okay. Duty.“ he said throwing both arms up.

I shoved him and ran a hand through my hair.

Why did I have to explain anything to him?

And why was I pissed?

She was merely my best friend's sister and her blood was vital to keep the pack going.

So what nonsense was he spitting about ‘fancy’?

“Here.” He said tossing a lighter my way. I caught it midair and cocked a brow at him.

“The bodies?” He emphasized.

I rolled my eyes and walked over to the pile, setting them ablaze, crossing my arms on my chest, and watching the flame grow. From a flicker to a furnace.

“What are you going to do about the boy? He saw the bodies.” I shrugged, no idea coming to mind.

“I could kill him.” Brian chipped. He had always been the impulsive one, so I was not surprised.

“And then what? Maldivian troops poking around, looking for ways to unravel the truth?” I spun around and began walking away.

“Urgh! Responsibility bullshit. Chop off his head. Take care of the body. Leave no traces. Voila!”

For some reason, I liked the sound of that, but that was wrong. I stopped and tilted my head to look at him.

“Screw your bitches, and keep your nose out of my business.”

He scoffed but remained quiet.

“He killed a human.” Brian blurted.

Eliot looked up with a look of urgency, placing a finger on his lips to shush us.

He moved the bowl aside and dropped the towel he had been using to clean Mum up in it.

Then he walked over to the head of the bed and planted a kiss on her forehead.

Dad's love for Mom was the type that was written in books. The type of love people craved to have, but no matter how much I tried to understand the dynamics, I just couldn't.

I couldn't understand what made him so invested in Mum that he could overlook the life of an innocent girl to cure his wife.

It was…unsettling.

He motioned that we follow him and we did.

We were brought to the dining room, took our seats, and waited for him to speak.

“So, you killed a human.”

I sat up straight, hands clasped together and feet tapping ceaselessly on the marble floor.

“Three,” I confessed.

“Well, I should clap for you then. You've done great!” he mocked.

Brian chuckled at the sarcasm. I glared at him from my side of the table, but that only made him laugh some more.

“What do you expect me to do now?” He asked.

Well, I don't know, that's why I'm here… the words were at the tip of my tongue but I let them sit there.

“You are the soon-to-be alpha, and honestly I wonder why the moon goddess chose you…” He started with a routine fatherly speech on how irresponsible I was, bla bla bla.

I was half attentive, nodding when he seemed to have said something that required a gesture.

A decade later he sighed and shifted on his chair.

“I hope there were no witnesses.” I swallowed a lump forming in my throat and opened my mouth to speak, but Brian beat me to it.

“The beta princess and her boyfriend.” my jaw clenched.

Boyfriend?

My stomach churned uncomfortably, and I shifted on the chair for relief.

Dad was quiet, massaging his moustache with his fingers, but the look in his eyes was one of understanding. He knew I did what needed to be done.

“Fine. I'll take care of it.” As though a weight was lifted off me, I nodded.

“Next time, scare them in your human form. No more killings and no more showing your beastly form to strangers. Am I clear?” He said coolly but his words were laced with the suppressing power of an Alpha.

I nodded.

He straightened with the speed of light and walked off towards the room mom lay in.

“What do you think he'll do?” Brian asked.

“So long as he doesn't touch Monroe, until the red moon festival…It doesn't matter.” I replied, standing to leave.

“Food for thought bro, don't fall for her.”

Brian said out of the blue. My brows creased as I stopped in my tracks and turned to face him.

“Sasha will become interested in her too, if you do.” A knowing smile crept onto his face.

“ You know what happens when your Luna takes interest in something.”
