Chapter 2 Call The Sheriff

Tiana's POV

When we reach the station, Tyler’s eyes widen. His aren’t the only ones. I check him in and put him in jail.

“What the hell did you just do, Nia?” Tyler whispers.

“Brought a criminal to jail,” I reply, preparing the paperwork.

“So, this is why you asked me to cover up for you?” he asks, in disbelief.

“Yes,” I reply, signing the paperwork. “I went to that stupid boxing match because I wanted to catch the man of the moment in the act.”

“So, I’m the man of the moment?” Kane asks cockily.

Tyler and I both turn over to see Kane looking like he’s at home. Well, he is.

I turn back to look at Tyler, and he looks like he wants to say something, but I shake my head. “Later.”

His jaw tightens. “This is a mistake, Nia. You won’t like the outcome one bit.” With that, he walks away, but his warning does nothing to me, if I’m being honest.

“You know,” Kane says, “you should probably listen to the blond.”

I continue ignoring him; maybe then he would shut his mouth, but he doesn’t.

“You couldn’t even get a warrant,” he continues, “so what makes you think I’d be kept here?”

Hope, I want to reply. But there’s nothing hope has done, except fuck me over, which is exactly why I’m in this small-ass town.

He doesn’t say anything for a moment, then he asks, “How long am I supposed to be staying here, Sin?”

I shut my eyes tightly. Why can’t this man shut up? I thought men who are ‘formidable’ and are bikers were supposed to know when to shut their mouths?

“You’re staying here for as long as I can make you,” I reply.

He smirks. “I guess I’m not going to be here for long, then.”

“As long as I’m concerned, you’re going to be here for as long as I need you to,” I snap.

He lets out a laugh that catches me by surprise, and I swear, I notice a dimple on his right cheek. “Sin, if you want me to be in somewhere for as long as you need me to, it’ll have to be your room, baby.”

“You’re a pig,” I hiss.

“Am I?” he asks, cocking his eyebrows, looking so out of place. This man belongs in a magazine, but it’s not my fault he dabbles in criminal activities.

He taps his leg continuously, and it grates on my nerves. I blame it on being the first child and first daughter. Unwanted sounds seem to set me off.

“Can you stop that?” I finally snap.

“If you come in and sit on me again? Sure, Sin,” he replies, with a slight grin.

I shut my eyes and count to ten. I can’t use my gun to kill this bastard. That's why I leave my watch post and look for Tyler.

“Tyler, I need a favour.”

He raises his head to look at me, and I can see the annoyance written clearly on his face. “Oh, so now you need something from me?” He asks. I open my mouth to answer, but he continues. “You seem to love doing things on your own, and by yourself, so why would you need me now?”

I take a deep breath. “Look, I’m sorry I didn’t tell you about going undercover, but I didn’t think you would side with me.”

I see the heat in his eyes extinguish slowly. “Maybe you should have given me that choice first, Nia.”

“I know,” I agree, “and I am sorry. It won’t happen again.”

He scoffs. “It will, Nia. Don’t lie to yourself and me.”

I give him a sheepish look, because honestly, he’s right.

“Why are you here instead of with your jailbird?” he asks, tilting his head to where Kane Wilder is.

My face instantly glowers. “He’s so infuriating, and he keeps on making these weird-ass jokes.”

That seems to pique his interest. “Kane Wilder is making jokes?” he asks, in astonishment.

I nod frantically, turning to look at him for a moment, and he gives me a wink, which makes me turn my attention back to Tyler. “I swear, he seems to have gone to a College in Crude jokes.”

“That seems almost unbelievable, Nia,” Tyler murmurs.

“What do you mean?” I ask.

“That guy is always stoic, and almost everyone in this town is afraid of him,” Tyler explains, and I can see it in his eyes that he’s part of the everyone.

“So, does that mean you’re not going to watch him in my stead?” I ask, giving him a smile.

“That is exactly what I mean,” Tyler says, leaving me stunned.

My mouth drops open in shock.

“Look, Nia, you know I would love to help you, but if for a second I’m the one seen watching that guy, his club is going to frustrate the hell out of me,” Tyler explains.

“But you’re a cop.”

“That’s exactly why they would keep on frustrating me, and like I told you, no judge is going to take up the case.” He gives me an apologetic smile. “You’re on your own here, partner.”

I am dumbfounded, but I walk back to my post, and the first thing I hear is, “I’m guessing the blond didn’t want to take over from you, right?”

I don’t reply, but my eyes flash in anger.

“He’s a fucking pussy,” he continues, seeming to enjoy his voice.

“And you’re calling him that, because?” I finally crack.

“He doesn’t have the balls to come in here and watch me instead, because he’s scared like a fucking pussy,” he explains.

“Why do you have to use the female genitalia to describe cowardice?” I ask, shocked that I seem to be having this conversation with him.

He smiles when I ask him that question. “Well, he’s only a pussy, because he doesn’t have one. If he had one on him, he would probably be brave enough to slap some handcuffs on my wrist. Like you, Sin.” He gives me a wink, which seems to make my heart rate pick up slightly.

When thirty minutes pass, he says, “Sin, I think I need to make my call, now.”

I raise my head, frustrated that he’s speaking again. “And who would you like to call?”

“The sheriff,” he replies, and his grin widens when he sees the slight widening in my eyes.
