Chapter 3

(Elena’s POV)

Angela’s face suddenly darkened, and she snorted coldly:

“Good to know that you’re part of the Mancini family, but if I didn’t know, I’d think you snuck in here to eat and drink for free!”

She gave me a glance, her eyes filled with deep disdain:

“Today’s Christmas Eve, and you’re not working, just putting on a dead face? How unlucky.”

In the past, Gabriel would at least say something for me in front of her.

But today — with Lily around, he didn’t say a word.

It seemed like as long as Lily was there, he couldn’t wait to cut clean with me.

I didn’t respond, I just silently walked towards them.

Under the eyes of three pairs, each filled with disgust, impatience, and contempt.

I slowly spoke:

“Gabriel, let’s get a divorce.”

The air instantly froze.

Angela was the first to jump up, her face turning red.

“What now? Are you trying to cause trouble on Christmas? Are you trying to ruin the peace of this family?”

She suddenly started yelling:

“Your parents died young, no one taught you any manners.”

I felt like I was struck by lightning, my mind blank.

She had no hesitation in insulting my deceased parents — no bottom line at all.

Angela had never liked me.

In her mind, the person should become the Mancini family’s Donna was always her “goddaughter,” Lily.

After I married Gabriel, her dreams were shattered, and naturally, she despised me.

But today, she wanted me to die on the spot.

Gabriel furrowed his brows, seemingly surprised, but quickly changed to a calm tone, trying to soothe me:

“What’s wrong? Who upset you?”

“Elena, you’re pregnant, your emotions are unstable. Today’s Christmas, we can talk about this later, okay?”

He said, reaching out to help me.

But just as his hand raised, Lily gently pulled his sleeve.

At this point, she had already adopted a pitiful look, her eyes glistening with tears.

“Is it because I’m here that Elena is acting like this?”

Her voice was soft and aggrieved, yet as sharp as the most dangerous knife.

“I just haven’t seen my godmother and you in a while, I really don’t mean anything else...”

Her bloodshot eyes immediately drew the sympathy of both Angela and Gabriel.

Angela immediately protected her, glaring at me:

“Don’t welcome Lily? Then you leave!”

“She’s my goddaughter, I love her, and she’s part of our family. What are you? How dare you cause trouble?”

Gabriel’s expression darkened, his tone filled with annoyance.

“Elena, I’ve always spoiled your little temper. But today’s Christmas, and you’re still making a scene over some old misunderstandings?”

“Lily meant no harm, and she bought you nutrition supplements because she heard you have a baby. Why can’t you be a little more kind?”

“She’s grown up with me, and my mother likes her. Are you going to stop us from seeing each other because of you?”

I stared at him, my voice hoarse, and said, choking back my emotions:

“My parents are dead, how can I be more kind?”

“Gabriel, let me ask you one last thing, when my mother was on the operating table... was she really beyond saving?”

Suddenly.

I saw a flash of guilt in his eyes.

Then, as if I hit his raw nerve, he became enraged, raising his hand —

A slap landed heavily on my face.

“Shut up!”

He roared, his face twisted.

“Are you implying something? I’m a doctor, would I intentionally harm her?”

“Your parents died because of bad luck! Don’t come disturbing those of us still alive!”
