Chapter 6 : My Sons
Chapter 6: My Sons
Evelin
The man had cold eyes and a strong jaw, he stood stoically with his hands behind his back in his fine suit. He had grayed hair with strands of dark remnants of the color of used to be. The man was clean cut and clean shave.
“Welcome.” He said and his voice made me swallow hard.
My uncle stood up and began to explain why they had brought us here. One thing to know about the Blood Moon Syndicate is that they are actually allies with the Albanian mafia because they have a common enemy, the Brazilian cartel. I didn't know why but I started to realize not having information might be a bigger danger for me than keeping myself ignorant to my family's work. It was the cartel that had shot at us tonight, they had found out so quickly and I can only imagine how.
“Why did they specifically target you, uncle?” I asked after he had informed us of who was behind the attack.
“We don't know, dear but we will soon find out. For now, you will be staying here with Milo until your aunt and I get back.” He said.
I asked why they had to go to Mexico and he said it was to monitor our sector there in case these attacks are meant to hit more than just my family.
“And why can't I come with you?” I asked, knowing I was pressing my luck. I could feel Mr. Vincenzo’s eyes on me each time I opened my mouth.
“You will be safe here, look Axel is a very close friend of your father's. He owes your father a favour and this is it.” He replied.
My stomach soured at the thought of being stuck here with this man and his plastic wife. Milo looked at me as if to say, everything is going to be fine but it didn't feel that way right now. I have never been in danger before or at least if I was in danger at some point, they did an awfully good job at hiding it. After everything was explained to us, I walked my aunt and uncle outside to say goodbye. This was all happening so fast, they are leaving tonight. When my uncle hugged me, he whispered a warning into my ear.
“Eve, you listen to Axel while I am gone. I know you like to do as you play but these aren't men to test the patience of, okay? And I would like you to steer clear of his sons, they are worse trouble than you know.” He said, looking over my face as if to memorize it. My eyes teared up and I hugged him tightly along with my aunt right after.
“Please, be safe.” I said and they smiled, telling me they would.
I was emotional because I was both scared and also I had never been apart from them for very long, not since the day they took me into their home as their own daughter. I am twenty-two but I won't lie and say I haven't been babied by them all, I was my father's princess when he was around and then my uncle's angel after he was sent to prison. I look to my cousin and asked.
“Should I be worried about these people?” I asked, he motioned his hand like he meant so-so.
“As long as you show respect, there shouldn't be any problems. You make sure to treat them like they are your boss because you are a Rossi too. So technically, they are.” He told me.
“I don't work for the family.” I reminded him.
“It doesn't matter.” He shook his head before throwing an arm around me and led me back into the house.
We were met by the same bun haired woman who was ready to escort us to our new sleeping quarters for the time being but she was interrupted. Axel Vincenzo, the mafia boss, was standing in the entryway just behind her, waiting for our return. He tipped his head to tell us to follow him back inside the front parlor. The wife was already gone.
“Evelin, right?” He asked me first. I nodded but had yet to find my voice.
“Your father was my right hand man, it was a great loss to us when he got arrested but he stayed loyal to the oath and he didn't rat. He just served his time which I will always respect.” He told me. Again, I just nodded. He chuckled to himself before continuing.
“Derek's quick hands, those bars never slowed him down. He is still running things from inside, do you get to see him?” He asked.
“I tried to visit most weekends.” I replied in a soft voice. My voice didn't match my inside, my insides were actually boiling with the knowledge that my father was taken away from me because of this man standing right in front of me. He let my father go to prison for the sins of every man in his cartel and he spoke of it as if it were an honor.
“I know you mean everything to Derek, I told him I would take care of you. So that is what we will do.” He nodded to me, his eyes were still cold even though he was seemingly trying to have a friendly conversation with me.
“We?” I asked, noting he had used plurals. He adjusted his suit jacket and nodded.
“My sons,” he replied.
My stomach soured thinking back to the request of my uncle. He told me to stay away from them, he said they were worse than I know.
We were told we could settle into our rooms and that I would meet the rest of the family in the morning. Milo knew everybody already, I was the outsider here, the room given to me was on the third floor. There was a small sitting area just after you landed off the stairs and then a vast hall to follow. I didn't know what was behind the doors of the other rooms aside from Milo’s new room just down the hall. My room was spacious and painted a dusted pink color I thought was pretty. The floors were hardwood and the area rug was a stark white along with my bedding. The love seat to the left of my room was a light gray color. I had a walk-in closet, so I had no dresser in my room. Just my large bed whose headboard was pushed against the right wall and a nightstand with a designer lamp.
The same wall that the sofa and closet door were on, there was another door which led to my own personal bathroom. The bathroom was made up of clean colors like the white ceramic and light gray towels along with the glasses shower. A very nice one. Everything looked elegant, I had spotlight lighting on the ceiling of the room which was bright. I didn't want the bright light right now though, I was mentally and physically exhausted.
We had been shot at tonight, a bullet was so close to lodging into my head when I had been down for cover. I was told to vacate my house and forced into the Vincenzo household where scary people lurk the halls.
