Chapter 6 Are You Pregnant?

Ember's POV

After leaving, I went straight back to the Blackwood estate.

The design draft was only half done.

If it hadn't been for that mindlink from the Hart family interrupting me, I would've already sent it to the company email.

An hour later.

I was holding my tablet, revising the draft, when I suddenly heard a knock at the door.

"Um... Luna, Ms. Hamilton says she's not feeling well and wants you to come check on her."

The servant looked somewhat uncomfortable.

Hearing this, my stylus paused, and a trace of mockery flashed in my eyes.

Chloe sure knows how to push her luck.

"Tell her I'm busy."

I couldn't be bothered to deal with it.

If she's not feeling well, she can go to a hospital. I'm not a doctor.

Right now I just want to stay quietly in my room and finish organizing the design draft.

Once I deal with Grandma, I can fly to Paris smoothly.

As for whether Chloe lives or dies—what does that have to do with me?

I couldn't help but touch my lower abdomen.

Does Asher even know—

That I'm pregnant too?

After the servant left, there was soon commotion downstairs.

I heard her voice, so delicate it seemed ready to break at any moment—

"Did I upset Ms. Hart somehow? You're right, I shouldn't have troubled her..."

Then—

"My—my stomach hurts so much... Martha, go get Ms. Hart quickly, I'm so scared!"

The living room instantly erupted in chaos.

I closed my eyes.

I didn't need to look to know what act she was putting on.

Chloe's POV

I lounged lazily on the sofa, flipping through a magazine.

When I heard the servant return with "Luna says she's busy," my fingers paused.

Busy?

Ha.

Just because the old lady protects her, she really thinks she's still Luna?

Dragging her feet on dissolving the mate bond—what's she waiting for?

Waiting for Asher to come back to her?

Ridiculous.

A cold gleam flashed in my eyes.

The next second, I'd already switched to that gentle, harmless expression.

I gently covered my lower abdomen, my brow slightly furrowed:

"Did I upset Ms. Hart somehow? You're right, I shouldn't have troubled her..."

I deliberately paused.

Then suddenly tightened my fingers, my face instantly pale:

"My—my stomach hurts so much..."

My voice trembled, "Martha, go get Ms. Hart quickly, I'm so scared!"

The magazine slipped from my hands.

A soft thud.

The servant instantly panicked.

Perfect.

I don't believe—

She can still hide and not come down.

Ember's POV

Soon there was urgent knocking at the door.

"Luna, you'd better come downstairs with me quickly. If something happens to Ms. Hamilton, none of us can handle the consequences!"

I stared at the screen, my fingertip stopping.

See.

Even the servants know.

Who the important person is.

I took a deep breath, picked up my water glass, and stood up.

"Then just call 911. If you delay any longer, you'll be in even worse trouble."

With that, I opened the door and went downstairs.

Just as I reached the living room.

She looked up at me, face pale, but her tone carried a hint of grievance:

"Ms. Hart, I'm really not feeling well. Could you trouble yourself to pour me a glass of water? The servants are all busy, and I really can't get up."

Emilia: This woman is definitely up to something!

My expression didn't change.

I acted as if I hadn't heard.

And walked right past her.

Chloe's voice rose a bit, but remained delicate:

"Ms. Hart, don't be angry. I didn't mean to stay here. If I did something wrong, I'll apologize, okay? Right now I'm really thirsty..."

I couldn't be bothered.

I kept walking.

"Ms. Hart, I'm apologizing to you, I'm sorry..."

"Ah!"

She suddenly lunged at me.

"Splash—"

Water spilled out.

Most of it landed on the back of her hand.

I froze.

I clearly didn't—

"Oh my god, is Ms. Hamilton okay? Quick, get the burn ointment!"

The living room instantly exploded.

"Chloe!"

A familiar voice suddenly rang out.

My body stiffened.

I turned around.

Asher had already rushed in.

He strode over and pulled her into his arms.

The motion was painfully practiced.

Then he looked up at me.

His eyes ice cold.

"Ember, I've warned you how many times not to go near Chloe! She's pregnant and you've upset her. Are you satisfied now!"

My heart ached.

He didn't even ask.

Just assumed it was me.

I took a deep breath.

"Asher, whether you believe it or not, it has nothing to do with me."

I saw Chloe lower her eyes, the corner of her lips curving up ever so slightly.

Then she shrank back into his arms, her voice trembling:

"Asher, don't blame Ms. Hart... It—it was me who didn't hold the glass properly."

As she spoke, she showed the back of her hand.

That patch of red was painfully glaring.

His face completely darkened.

He suddenly stood up.

And grabbed my wrist in one motion.

Using no restraint at all.

"What did you do to Chloe! You knew she's pregnant, and you deliberately scalded her with hot water. What are you trying to do!"

I went pale with pain.

I yanked my hand away.

"Asher, stop making wild accusations!"

My voice trembled, but I could no longer suppress my emotions:

"Get this straight—I only drink warm water. There wasn't even steam coming from the cup! What's more—"

I stared at him:

"Until the mate bond is dissolved, I'm still the lady of this house! If you're so capable, keep her somewhere else!"

He was clearly stunned.

A flash of surprise crossed his eyes.

As if seeing me for the first time.

The next second, he laughed coldly:

"Lady of the house?"

"Who would acknowledge that."

"Apologize to Chloe right now, or else—you can't handle the consequences!"

My eyes burned.

I stepped closer to him.

"I didn't do anything wrong. Why should I apologize?"

"Three years, Asher. Do you even have a heart!"

"I gave you everything, and the moment she came back, you gave her all your tenderness!"

"Have you ever thought that I'm human too!"

"I hurt too!"

As my words fell.

My stomach suddenly churned.

Sharp pain in my lower abdomen.

Oh no—

My face instantly went deathly pale.

Morning sickness.

Of all times.

I turned and rushed to the bathroom.

"Ugh—"

As soon as I got inside, I bent over retching.

My stomach was turning violently.

This was the strongest reaction since I got pregnant.

Baby...

Can you feel how sad I am?

Suddenly there were footsteps behind me.

Urgent ones.

Before I could recover.

I heard his voice, low and deliberate, word by word—

"Ember. Are you pregnant?"

My whole body froze.
