You know that saying when karma decided to hit you, it always went for the kill? Well that could as well be my situation right now.
But for the exact crime in which Karma was paying me back for, I had no idea . All I knew was that being in this situation was as awkward as hell.
In all my life I'd never been rendered speechless, but now, I just stood rooted to the ground, gaping like a lost goldfish in the Atlantic ocean while the devil's hellspawn stared at me quizzically.
He hadn't recognized me yet as he bent down to help me pick up my phone which he'd knocked down after we'd collided.
This was my time to bolt, but my legs had turned to jelly all of a sudden.
"Here." He stretched out his hand, my now cracked phone resting on his palm." You accidentally dropped this and I'm sorry, but I think it's broken. Wait..."
"Uh oh." I gulped, muttering under my breath. I hadn't even started and I was already messing things up.
"It's… I recognize you" His blue orbs widened in surprise over the rim of his signature glasses. He was in a blue plaid longsleeved shirt with a pair of black pants and black testoni shoes. His sandy blonde hair was still a mess, tussled and ruffled over just like the first night we met. I'd never liked plaid, but somehow he'd managed to pull it off and he looked hot as hell. “What are you doing here?"
“There's a logical explanation for this." I huffed, trying to compose myself. If there was anything I'd learnt in the academy, it was to always let your confidence bleed through. “But we'll start with you, what are you doing here?"
“Really?" He rolled his eyes, fighting back a smirk. “Wait, are you stalking me?"
"What?!" His question caught me off guard and I recoiled immediately. "I'm what ?"
"You're stalking me." He beamed as I snagged my phone from his grip, our fingers brushing each other. “You couldn't get enough of me from the other night, so here you are."
"What?” for a second, I genuinely blanked out, but it didn't take too long for my fury to kick in. “How dare you? Who the fuck do you think you are?"
"I'm not one to gloat, but…." He trailed off, and all I saw was red. He was obviously enjoying getting a rise out of me, and unfortunately, I was falling for his bait. “But I'm sorry love, I don't do repeats…"
"Fuck you!" I spat furiously, my hand rising above my head in an attempt to graze his cheek, but that contact never came. "Let me go!"
"You wouldn't" His voice slithered around me, low and deadly, sending chills down my spine. “Do you know who I am?"
"You're an asshole. That's what.” I spat, freeing myself from his iron grip. “You're just an annoying rich ass student like everyone else here in this college."
"Check again." He huffed. “Have you even gone through your timetable and class schedules yet?"
"What does that have to do with this?" I glared daggers at him.
"Here." He whipped out a sheet of paper with the school's emblem boldly designed at the top, brandishing it in front of my face. “Take a look at this."
"No." I gasped, not at the beautiful B that stood for the college, but at the content of what was being shoved in my face. “It can't be. You're Cassian Corvin?"
"And if you're an English major this semester," His voice was a mixture of sarcasm and amusement. “You're going to be stuck with me because.."
"You're my professor.” I finished, my mind a whirlwind of emotions. "What!?"
"I'll leave you to get settled." He adjusted his glasses as he sidestepped me. “See you in class, miss."
Contrary to Cassian's words, I didn't see him in class. Instead, I padded down the opposite direction, desperate to put every bit of distance between us.
I had no idea where I was headed, and it didn't matter because I walked into the first building that came up.
"Pick up, pick up." I pace the school cafeteria, ignoring the pointed stares other students were throwing my way. That was definitely the least of my problems now. "Why won't he fucking pick up?"
"Kid!" Chief's cheerful voice finally came through after what seemed like forever. “So many missed calls. Are you okay…"
"No.” I shook my head. “How could you?"
“Why have you been blowing up my phone all morning?” I hated that there was a hint of genuine concern in his tone, like he actually cared. “It's barely been three hours."
" I wouldn't be bothering you if you'd briefed me properly on my case.” I whispered, not because I wanted to, but because cases were meant to be discreet. “How could you do this to me?”
"What happened now?" Chief sighed. “What's got you in a tight spot?"
"The fact that you left out the most important information." I heaved. “Cassian's my professor!?"
"I gave you the file didn't I?” That was not the answer I was expecting. “Everything you need to know is in there. You'd know all this if you'd actually read through it Kid."
"I did not sign up for this Chief.” I sighed, running a hand through my hair." This isn't fair."
"Life isn't fair kid.” I rolled my eyes. "I thought I taught you that already."
"You could have just introduced me as his babysitter." I snorted. “That would have made things easier. Or just fucking put me on the investigation team..."
“We already spoke about that, didn't we?” He cut me off. “your job is to be his bodyguard, and that's it.”
“Chief..”
“Call me when you have something important to say.” He chipped in again. “And it shouldn't matter if he's your professor or not. You have a job to do, so get in there, do your job and get out of there."
"That's easy for you to say." I murmured.
Chief was nowhere near when I was writhing in pleasure beneath him two nights ago.
“Good. And one more thing.” His voice turned serious, and I just knew it couldn't be anything good. “Don't mess this up. My Superiors are watching you. And closely too. One slip up and you're gone. "
"I know." I heaved dejectedly. “I'll talk to you later."
The call went dead, but I didn't have to wallow in my self pity too long, before my phone chimed with an incoming notification; a message from Alyssa.
Aly : Hey, how are things going for ya?
Me : Horribly My one night stand's my professor.
Aly: You're joking right?
Me :I wish.
Aly : I'm sorry.
Me : I don't know what to do.....
Aly : Just stick to your mission then?
I stared at Alyssa's message one more time, and even though she was making every sense in the world, it just d
idn't make any sense to me.
No, I had a better idea. I think it's high time I had a little chat with my assignment
