Chapter 2 On the Brick of Death

Lyra’s POV

I saw two girls whispering to themselves, so I quickly brushed my hair over my face so that they wouldn't recognize me.

They were so busy talking that they didn't notice me.

I used style to move closer to listen to what they were saying.

"Did you see him?" One of the girls said, her voice was shaking. "His blood was completely dried up, and his skin turned so dark, like something sucked every drop out of him. What is happening?"

"His eyes were wide open too,  and they were melting just like Selene's that day.  Everyone knows how he used to simp over Selene before she died. He carried out every one of her commands while knowing that she liked those top hockey players.” The other girl replied.

My mouth dropped in shock.

“Maybe he couldn't handle her death, and ended up dying the same way. Don't worry,  nothing will happen to us."

My brows shot up, and my hands fell weakly to my sides.

My breathing started seizing, and I staggered backwards, unable to take in what I just heard.

"Are you talking about that fat blonde guy?!" I asked, heart beating very fast as I stared at them in disbelief.

“Yes…” They both answered in unison as they turned their heads to me.

I watched them quietly as their brains snapped, making their faces fall.

They recognized me.

“What the hell are you doing here, you devil's maiden?” The girl on the left spat, her eyes sharpening at me to scare me, but I was too weak to move.

All that was screaming in my head was the fact that the person they are talking about is my second biggest bully in this academy.

And just like they have said, he gets sent around by Selene to carry out her plans on how to deal with me each day.

I swear in my life that he once grabbed my breast and dragged me with it to smash my head on the wall, and now he is gone.

I badly want to convince myself that the girl might be right about him wanting her so badly that he died like Selene, but my brain keeps bringing me back to reality.

Waves of cold shiver down my spine.

I stood rooted to the spot, unable to lift my heavy legs, even as the way students started gathering in front of me because of the way these two girls kept pointing an accusing finger at me.

I could hear their voices, but it sounded too distant for me.

‘Aren't you happy? You have used your wicked energy to get rid of another one of the students here!”

“What more do you want, you poor rat? Get out of this academy for us. If I were you, I would have committed suicide out of shame.”

More voices joined, too, agreeing with what the girls were saying.

“She is definitely the one who killed them because her essence hasn't improved ever since she came to this academy."

“Maybe there is a demonic aura from her, and that is enough to get her kicked out of here! We need to make sure of that since this school has strangely been refusing to do that, no matter how much we beg.”

“Yes! We are the ones dying, so we can take decisions into our own hands! Another voice screamed, and everyone around hummed together in agreement.

They sounded like an angry mob.

It felt like the ground was spinning so fast beneath my feet, and a wave of painful dizziness crashed through my head.

My legs trembled, making me stumble backward.

If I turned to run, they would surely catch up with me because my body is weak.

I hadn't even eaten either. If not, I would have a bit of strength.

My eyes burned with tears. Why was I even born? Of course, to suffer till death.

I can only suspect that creature since it was around down this male hostel building that I saw it.

I wished I could tell them that a real demonic creature was truly stalking the academy, but it wasn't me.

They would even get more triggered to get rid of me if I say that.

They will think I am truly a psycho.

“We should drag her to the centre of the academy! We will tear off her clothes and beat the demon out of her, even if she dies!” A voice shouted from the crowd.

A low whimper escaped my lips, and my eyes blinked out the tears that were blurring my sight.

So many voices filled my head, screaming at me not to move, but they disappeared the moment I turned and ran.

I forced my aching body to move forward, ignoring the pain that shot through my bones with each step.

I risked looking over my shoulder and saw them racing after me, their voices echoing through the air as they shouted for me to stop.

I kept running even though my heart was pumping hard against my chest.

I dared to look back again, and this time one of them, who is a guy, was leading, and would soon catch up with me.

I tried summoning more strength to keep running, but I was slowing down instead.

As I turned my head back to the front, a luxurious black car almost slammed into me before screeching to a stop.

I grabbed the hood for support, not caring that it had nearly killed me.

Too many fears had made me numb.

"Please..." My voice trembled. "Can you at least take me with you?" I begged the driver.

"Get in the car before they get here!" The driver urged, waving frantically. He even leaned over to push the door of the front seat.

I dragged my weak body to the other side and stumbled into the car.

"Close the door!" He shouted as he sped away.

I jerked in fear and quickly slammed the door shut, even though the car was already moving.

Breathing heavily, I looked through the window just in time to see the guy who had almost caught me stumbling as the car pulled away.

"Ah... he would have gotten me if you hadn't shown up." I let out a shaky breath. "Thank you so much. I swear I owe you."

I leaned back against the seat.

"Um..." The driver scratched the back of his neck nervously. "You should be thanking my boss instead." He said, pointing toward the back seat.

I slowly turned around.

A broad-shouldered man dressed in a perfectly tailored black suit sat there, his dark hair falling loosely over his face.

I could sense his dominating aura.

Hmm….who is this?

I narrowed my eyes, trying to figure out why he looked so familiar. "Thank you so much for..." The words died in my throat, and every drop of blood in my body seemed to turn to ice as recognition struck.

It was Professor Malik Duskbane without his usual neatly styled hair and signature glasses, and that was why I couldn't recognize him at first.
