Chapter 3 He is the one
LYRA’S POV
I let out a shaky breath, my fingers tightening around my lap as my mouth fell open in fear.
The car, which had felt warm moments ago, suddenly became suffocatingly hot.
My throat started itching.
It's as if my soul is slowly slipping away from my body.
"I see you don't know how to greet," Malik said, his eyes twinkling with amusement as a warm smile spread across his face.
I couldn't bring myself to say a word as my heart beat wildly against my chest like never before.
I quickly snapped my head back to the driver, “Please stop the car! I need to get out of here now!” I screamed at the top of my lungs, hitting my lap for him to hurry.
The driver just continued driving as if I didn't exist beside him.
Tears welled up in my eyes as it dawned on me that I had gotten myself in big trouble, so I didn't say anything more out of fear of getting harmed.
I sat down there, quietly crying like a little child.
“If you want to get out of here, it's not that hard. He will drive you back to the angry mobs where you were carried from,” I heard that chilling husky voice say from the back.
I painfully bite my lower lip, trying to stop myself from crying out loud.
I don't know how to control my emotions right now, so I've started biting my fingernails instead.
Different thoughts echoed through my mind, and I couldn't say if helping me from those angry students was a good thing.
Does he know that I caught him transforming into the most demonic creature ever?
I know that everyone possesses a divine gift, so perhaps his was simply powerful enough to let him transform, but then I had never heard of anyone with an ability like that.
I started thinking hard so that I could cling to any thought that could calm the fear in me, but the car finally rolled to a stop in front of a grand mansion.
My gaze fearfully swept over the area, and a little cry escaped my lips at once as this
was the academy's staff estate, a place students were strictly forbidden from entering.
I recognized it here because I have seen it on the school map several times.
I heard Professor Malik opening the door to get down.
So I turned my shivering body to the driver, hoping he could give me a hint about my fate, but he just stared at me with so much pity before looking away.
I wanted to curse him, but I have already gotten to a risky zone, and my bones might get snapped within the blink of an eye.
“Get down,” The demon commanded, opening the door for me to get down.
I breathed out shakily and tightened my hands as I slowly moved out of the car.
“Follow me inside,”
My head felt heavy with each step I took behind him until we got into the beautifully designed living room.
“Sit down,”
I didn't say anything as I just moved to place my hot butt on one of the couches, my head looking at my feet as if I was a culprit who was feeling ashamed of her crime.
I hope I get out of here alive.
“Have you eaten? If not, should I make you breakfast? Although I don't come here often because I have a home outside the academy, I should be able to find something to put together.” He spoke so nicely that you will think he is a normal person.
“I have eaten,” I forced out the lie, still not able to look him in the eyes.
Cold sweat trickled down my neck, soaking my skin as it slid to my stomach.
My hands shook uncontrollably, refusing to obey me no matter how desperately I tried to steady them.
It got worse when he sighed heavily and stood up, moving towards my direction.
“You have no reason to be scared of me.” He gently lowered himself to sit beside me.
I didn't say anything or even move away.
It was as if I was rooted to the spot, with fear tearing through every part of me.
He started moving his hand up, then gently wiped the tears on my cheeks, making a cold shiver run down my spine.
I don't know why I suddenly felt the urge to lean into him for comfort, even though I was almost peeing on my panties.
I swear I am out of my mind.
He removed his hand from my cheek, then placed those strong hands of his on my waist, carefully shifting me to face him.
“I will never hurt you, Mirelle,” He vowed, looking at me.
My heart weirdly melted at that sentence, and somehow I got the courage to speak.
“Then take me out of here,” I said, looking at him with a heart that is racing very fast.
“I have been looking for an opportunity to talk to you for a very long time,” His lips spread into a boyish smile that made my stomach twist.
“I don't think there is anything I need to be talking about with an old man.” I shut my mouth when I realized that I was about to insult him.
Oh, I hate myself.
“A twenty-eight-year-old man is not old, just talented enough to be a professor in this academy.” He defended himself, and surprisingly, doesn't look annoyed.
Maybe I had judged him wrongly anyway.
He might not be the one behind the death of those two students.
My shoulders dropped in relief. “Still doesn't change anything. A student should not be found in this area.”
“But you were almost killed,” His eyes darkened when he said the last word.
I nervously scratched my neck. “Yeah, I guess”
“So…stay here until their anger dies down”
“For how long? I don't think that is a good idea, besides…” I breathed out. “Their anger is valid because someone literally died. It's just so wrong that they are accusing me,”
The room fell silent.
I slowly turned my head to him, only to see the way his eyes turned plain black.
I tried shifting backward, but he quickly pinned my hand down on the couch.
I gasped fearfully.
Not again.
“Those students who died deserved it.” He said with no sign of guilt in his voice.
“What..what?!” I stammered.
“They had been bullying you for so long, and I ended up losing control when I got to know that the two of them were planning to kill you on the night of Selene’s birthday by poisoning your drink. Isn't it strange that they invited you to the birthday party? What is wrong with granting them what they wish for another person?” He asked, giving me a dreadful smile.
My heart dropped.
He just shamelessly confirmed that he killed my two greatest bullies in this academy.
