Chen Erfu wiped the blood from his nose, then stamped the approval on Martha Richard’s employment certificate.
“Thank you, Principal Chen!”
The moment Martha Richard received the certificate, she was overjoyed.
“Hey, young man, I’ve already provided all the necessary proof. Could you please delete the video?”
Chen Erfu said with a smile.
“Delete it? That won’t do. What if Principal Chen changes his mind someday? That would be troublesome!”
Reg Butler sneered, then took Martha Richard’s hand and left.
In the entire office, only Chen Erfu, with a dazed expression on his face, sat there dejectedly on his stool.
“Reg Butler, slow down!”
Martha Richard’s voice was urgent.
“Do you even realize how dangerous that was just now? People like Chen Erfu are completely unreliable, you know that!”
Reg Butler stopped in his tracks, staring intently at Martha Richard.
“I… of course know. But what can I do? I just want to stay here, in Suh City, and find a decent job.”
As she spoke, Martha Richard’s tears flowed again. She cried bitterly.
It was then that Reg Butler realized how serious the things he had just said were.
“Um… I’m sorry, Teacher Xiao. I was too hasty just now and said the wrong things. Please don’t blame me!”
“It’s okay, really. If it weren’t for you today, I’m afraid Principal Chen would have really….”
Martha Richard wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes. Her lips curled slightly as she managed to force a smile.
“Class is over tomorrow. Do you have time?”
“Tomorrow night?”
Reg Butler’s heart was pounding.
“I’d like to take you out to dinner as a thank you for your help today!”
Martha Richard raised the proof in her hand and waved it at Reg Butler.
“I’m free, of course!”
Reg Butler nodded his head vigorously, like a chick pecking at grain.
“If there’s nothing else, I’ll be leaving now!”
“No, it’s getting dark already. It’s not safe to be out this late. I’ll take you back!”
Reg Butler suddenly remembered that since little Martha didn’t have an official employment certificate, she couldn’t live on campus. So, she rented a small house in a village not far from the school.
Since classes usually end early, she often goes home by herself. But now it’s dark. It’s really not safe for a beautiful woman like Martha Richard to go home alone.
“Alright then!”
Martha Richard’s cheeks turned red, and she nodded shyly.
The two of them walked slowly towards the outside of the school, chatting casually along the way.
Just as they reached Martha Richard’s house, she suddenly stopped. “By the way, how did you know today that I went to Principal Chen’s office? Are you following me?”
“If I say yes, will you slap me right away?”
Reg Butler looked at Martha Richard seriously.
“Why… why would you do this?”
