Chapter 3: Crisis

Three days later, John's injuries had improved, but the doctor advised him to stay in the hospital for at least a week. I visited him at the hospital every day, while also secretly investigating the people who attacked them that day.

Through some clues, I confirmed that those people were indeed sent by Victor. It seems he not only wants to completely destroy me in vampire society, but also wants to eradicate me from the human world.

That afternoon, I was chatting with John in the hospital room when my phone suddenly rang.

"Mr. Alexander? This is Mary," Mary's trembling voice came through the phone, "Someone...someone's here again. They're at my door, saying they want to see you..."

My heart skipped a beat. "Where are you now?"

"I'm hiding in my neighbor's house, but they say if I don't show up, they'll tear the whole building down..."

Damn it! I gritted my teeth. Victor was serious this time.

"Don't come out yet, I'll be right there." I hung up the phone and said to John, "Dad, I have something urgent to take care of, I'll be right back."

"Be careful, child." John held my hand, his eyes full of worry.

I hurried out of the hospital; Marcus was already waiting at the door.

"To Brooklyn, to the Smiths," I said in a low voice after getting in the car.

The car sped along, and my heart grew heavier. The seal within me was like a tight band, preventing me from unleashing my true power. If too many of them came, I fear I wouldn't be able to handle them.

But no matter what, I can't let Mary get hurt.

When I arrived at the block where Smith's house was located, I could see several men in black standing downstairs in the distance. They exuded the aura unique to vampires and were clearly not ordinary people.

I had Marcus park the car on the corner, and then I walked over by myself.

"Are you looking for me?" I walked up to the vampires.

The leader was a middle-aged man with a scar on his face, who looked menacing. He grinned maliciously when he saw me.

"Alexander Dracula has finally appeared." He licked his lips. "Master Victoire and Miss Isabella have a message for you."

Victor and Isabella? Those two scoundrels have actually teamed up.

"explain."

"They said, since you're not willing to disappear quietly, don't blame them for being impolite. Starting today, every day, one human will die around you, until you come to them on your own."

My fists clenched tightly. "You dare!"

"Hahaha!" the scarred vampire laughed loudly. "What right does a powerless piece of trash have to threaten us?"

As he spoke, he gave a wink to his subordinates behind him. The vampires immediately scattered and surrounded the entire building.

"However, Master Victor and Miss Isabella are very merciful," the scarred vampire continued. "They're giving you a choice. Either you come with us now, or we'll start killing the old ladies in this building."

"You bastards..." I gritted my teeth.

Just then, Mary screamed from upstairs. I looked up and saw that a vampire had broken into the neighbor's house where she was hiding.

"Stop!" I roared, and the ancestral bloodline within me surged once more.

But this time, the backlash from the seal came faster and more violently. Before I could even act, I felt a sharp pain in my chest and almost collapsed to my knees.

"Haha, see that? This is what happens to trash!" The scarred vampire laughed smugly. "Come with us obediently, or that old lady will be in trouble!"

I gritted my teeth and struggled to keep my balance. Damn seal, why did it have to activate at this time!

Just when I was in despair, a clear female voice suddenly rang out:

"Stop! What are you doing?"

I turned around and saw that it was Dr. Emily. She was dressed casually and carrying a medical kit, clearly there to make a home visit for John.

"Miss, it's dangerous here, you should leave quickly!" I shouted to her hurriedly.

But Emily didn't run away; instead, she bravely stepped between me and the vampires.

"I've already called the police, and they'll be here soon. You'd better leave immediately, or you'll face the consequences!" Her voice trembled, but her tone was firm.

The scarred vampire glanced at her, a murderous glint in his eyes. "Meddling human, since you're so eager to die, then I'll grant your wish!"

He stretched out his sharp claws and reached for Emily.

"No!" I rushed forward without thinking, wanting to protect her.

But then, a miracle happened.

When Emily's hand touched my arm, the seal within me suddenly loosened. Not from anger or hatred, but from a warm, healing power.

It felt like seeing light in the darkness, or finding hope in despair.

"What...what is this?" I stared at Emily in shock.

She sensed something too, a flicker of surprise crossing her eyes. But she quickly regained her composure and whispered to me, "Trust me, I'll help you."

Just then, the sound of police sirens blared in the distance. The vampires' expressions changed upon hearing the sound.

"Damn it, there really are police!" the scarred vampire cursed. "Retreat!"

They quickly disappeared into the night, as if they had never been there at all.

Emily and I stood on the empty street, looking at each other. Under the streetlights, her face looked exceptionally beautiful, but what struck me even more was the innocence and kindness in her eyes.

"Are you alright?" she asked with concern.

"I...I'm alright." I stammered. "Thank you for saving me."

"You're welcome," she smiled, "but I think you might need more help."

Her words struck me. Did she know something?

"What's the meaning?"

Emily glanced around, and after confirming that no one else was around, she whispered, "I know those people weren't ordinary criminals. And you...you're not an ordinary person either, are you?"

I stared at her in shock. How could an ordinary human doctor possibly know about the existence of the supernatural world?

"Who exactly are you?" I asked warily.

"My name is Emily Hart, and I'm a doctor at St. Mary's Hospital," she said. "But I'm also a descendant of the Hart family."

The Hart family? I searched my memory, and suddenly something occurred to me. The Hart family—a famous vampire hunter family from hundreds of years ago!

"Are you a hunter?" I took a step back.

"We used to," Emily shook her head, "but my family abandoned the tradition of hunting vampires long ago. Now we are just doctors, specializing in treating those harmed by supernatural forces."

Her words confused me. A vampire hunter abandoning the hunt to heal his victims? That sounded incredible.

"Why are you telling me all this?" I asked.

"Because I can sense a sealed power within you," Emily said earnestly, "and this seal is harming you. As a doctor, I can't just stand by and watch my patient suffer."

Her words warmed my heart. In this cruel world, there was still someone willing to help me unconditionally.

"Can you help me break the seal?" I asked tentatively.

"I can try," Emily nodded, "but it will take time, and it will require your trust."

Trust? Looking into her clear eyes, my guard slowly lowered. Perhaps, she was the one I had been searching for—the one who could give me "the sincere emotions of a pure-blooded human."

"Okay, I believe you," I said.

Emily smiled brightly. "Well then, let's go see Mr. John first. I came here today to make a home visit for him."

We walked upstairs together, and I felt much more relaxed than before. Although the crisis wasn't completely over, at least I had found an ally, someone who might help me break the seal.

More importantly, when she touched me, I felt a warmth I had never experienced before. That feeling made me believe that perhaps the second sealing condition really could be fulfilled.

But what I didn't know was that Emily Hart's identity was far more complex than she claimed. Her family was indeed descended from vampire hunters, but she concealed a crucial fact—she possessed the secret method to break the ancient vampire seal.

And this secret will completely change my destiny.
