Chapter 6 A New Life Begins

The convoy passed through the massive gates of the Voss estate. After several security checks and scans, the vehicles finally entered the compound.

Marcus sat quietly in the back seat, watching the heavily guarded surroundings through the window. This was more than just wealth, It was power.

The road leading to the mansion alone was larger than many streets he had walked through during his old life. Beautiful gardens stretched across both sides, perfectly maintained and surrounded by security personnel who moved with discipline.

Everything about this place reminded him that Ethan Liam Voss had lived a life completely different from his own.

When the car stopped in front of the mansion, Marcus saw a middle-aged woman waiting at the entrance.

She looked like she had been crying, but she still tried to maintain her composure. Her posture remained elegant, but her eyes revealed the fear and worry she had carried since the accident.

The moment Marcus stepped out of the car, she walked toward him.

“Ethan.. my son”, Sophia Voss voice trembled as she held his face with both hands.

“Thank God you’re home”. She stared at him carefully, as if making sure he was truly standing in front of her.

“The doctors told me you might not remember us. I was so worried”

Marcus didn't know what to say. This woman was Ethan's mother, not his. But the concern in her eyes was real.

For years, Marcus had lost the warmth of a family. His own parents had passed away when he was young, and after that, he had spent most of his life depending only on himself.

Seeing someone look at him with this much fear and affection felt unfamiliar.

“I’m here, Mom”, he replied softly.

The word felt strange coming from his mouth. Sophia smiled slightly, though the sadness in her eyes remained.

“It’s alright,” she whispered. “As long as you’re safe, everything else can be fixed”

Marcus lowered his gaze. He almost forgot that he was living someone else's life for a while.

Inside the mansion, Marcus was once again surprised. The size of the place was beyond anything he had imagined. Expensive artworks decorated the walls, the ceilings were impossibly high, and the staff moved quietly without making any unnecessary noise. Even the silence inside the mansion felt expensive.

Sophia led him to the dining area overlooking the garden.

“The kitchen prepared your favorite meal,” she said. “Scrambled eggs and sausages”

Marcus looked at the food before shaking his head, “I’d prefer pasta”

Sophia stopped for a moment, “Pasta? She asked, then looked at him strangely.

“You hated pasta when you were younger. You always refused to eat it”

Marcus remained quiet and Sophia lowered her eyes slightly.

“And you called me Mom so formally just now”. A trace of sadness appeared on her face, but she quickly smiled.

“It’s fine. The doctors said your memory may take time to return”

She turned to the staff, “Prepare whatever Ethan wants”

The staff immediately followed her order.

Marcus watched her quietly. For some reason, seeing her reaction made him feel uncomfortable. He knew she was talking to Ethan, not him. Yet he couldn't ignore the fact that she was still showing him kindness despite the changes she noticed.

After dinner, Sophia personally took him to his private wing.

“This is your apartment inside the estate,” she explained. “You have always preferred having your own space”

Marcus looked around: the place was enormous. A private living room, entertainment room, multiple bedrooms, and everything designed according to Ethan’s taste.

Several staff members stood nearby, waiting for instructions. Marcus immediately felt uncomfortable with the number of people around him.

He had spent years working in hospitals, where he was surrounded by people because of necessity. But having so many people waiting on his every movement felt completely different.

Sophia noticed his expression, “I’ll leave you to rest. If you need anything, call me immediately”

She walked closer and gently kissed his forehead, “I’m just happy you’re back”

After she left, Marcus stood alone in the unfamiliar room. For the first time since waking up, he had a moment to himself.

He looked around at the expensive furniture and carefully designed interior.

He was surrounded by everything most people dreamed of having, yet he felt like a stranger inside this home.

After a few minutes, he turned toward the man standing nearby, “Theo”, he called.

“Yes, sir?”

“Where is my favorite place here?”

“The gym, sir”, Theo replied.

Marcus raised an eyebrow and chuckled, “The gym?”

Theo nodded, “You spent a lot of time there before the accident.”

Marcus gave a small smile, “Then take me there”

The private gym was filled with expensive equipment. Marcus walked toward the punching bag and threw a few punches.

His eyes narrowed and the body responded naturally. The strength and speed were far beyond what his previous body possessed.

“No wonder Ethan had this body,” he muttered.

His old body had been trained for medicine. This one was built for something completely different.

He wasn't used to this level of physical ability, but the body seemed to remember things his mind didn't.

That realization made him uncomfortable, “Theo”

“Yes, sir?”

“Bring me the records of everyone working in this wing”

Theo looked surprised but didn't question him, “ Okay, sir”

When the files arrived, Marcus carefully went through them. He checked their backgrounds, family connections, and personal history.

It was something he had learned during his years dealing with patients and difficult situations. People often revealed themselves through small details.

After a while, he separated the files, “Dismiss everyone except these four”

Theo looked at the names: Two gardeners, one cleaner and himself.

“Sir, are you sure about this?”

Marcus nodded, “I don’t need too many people around me”

Theo accepted the order, “Understood”

Later, Sophia returned. The instant she entered, Marcus noticed her unhappy expression.

“Ethan, why did you dismiss so many people?”

“I don’t need them”, he replied simply.

Sophia sighed, “You have always been difficult.”

Marcus ignored the comment, “There is something I want”, he said.

“What is it darling?”, she asked.

“I want a fully equipped medical laboratory built inside this apartment”

Sophia stared in amusement, she couldn't believe her eyes, “A laboratory?”

“Yes”

“But Ethan, you studied business and finance. You’ve never shown interest in medicine”

Marcus already expected the question, “Being in the hospital made me curious about medicine”

Sophia looked at him again, in surprise.

“I always hoped you would learn from your father and help him manage the family business.”

Marcus smiled faintly, “Then we can both get what you want”

Sophia frowned, “How?”

“Build the laboratory,” Marcus said. “And I’ll accompany Dad to the business meetings”

Sophia still opened her mouth in shock. For years, Ethan had avoided anything related to the family business. But after the accident, everything about him seemed different.

The old Ethan would have ignored the offer completely. He would have complained, refused, and walked away.

This Ethan was asking for something entirely unexpected.

Sophia studied her son carefully, “Are you sure this is what you want?”

Marcus nodded, “Absolutely”

She remained quiet for a moment before finally sighing, “I don’t understand what happened to you after the accident”

Marcus looked away, “Neither did I”, he muttered.

Sophia stepped closer, “But if this helps you find your direction again, I’ll support you”

Marcus looked at her, he felt a small sense of belonging after many years.

“Thank you, Mom”

Sophia smiled softly, “I’m scared your father won't agree though”
