Chapter 6 Her Hero Has Arrived
Stella's unfinished question, laced with choking sobs and desperate trembling, drifted into the stagnant air.
Richard's brow furrowed slightly.
He thought she would beg for mercy and give in, just like she had countless times before.
However, Stella said, "If I apologize, will you let me go and sign the divorce papers?"
Her words hit Richard's eardrums without warning.
A strange irritation suddenly gripped his heart, making his breath catch involuntarily.
This emotional fluctuation, completely beyond his control, made him feel extremely displeased.
He almost roared, "Take her downstairs!"
Dora was startled by Richard's sudden outburst of anger and didn't dare delay any longer. She grabbed Stella's slender arm forcefully and practically dragged her toward the stairs.
Stella stumbled, and the pain in her waist made her groan, but she bit down hard on her already bloodied lower lip, locking all her moans and weakness in her throat.
Just as she was being dragged to the stairway, about to turn toward the dark corner leading to the basement, Stella found strength from somewhere and suddenly broke free from Dora's grip!
Then, using all her strength, she stumbled but resolutely ran out of the villa.
"Stella!" Lillian cried out in surprise, making as if to chase after her.
However, her feet remained rooted to the spot, only extending her hand as if to hold her back.
At that moment, Zane hugged Lillian's leg tightly, "Let her go. Once she's gone, no one will bully you anymore, and this house will be peaceful! Right, Dad?"
Lillian lowered her head, touching Zane's head with heartache, her eyes reddening even more, "Zane, don't say that. She's still your mother after all. It's my fault. If it weren't for me, none of this would have happened. She must have left because she was too heartbroken."
As she spoke, Lillian's voice became somewhat choked up, "Richard, she hasn't recovered yet, and she has no money on her. If something happens to her, I'll never have peace of mind. Go after her quickly!"
Richard stood still, not moving an inch.
He only felt that irritating flame burning even stronger.
Using running away to try to get his attention?
He knew her too well.
She loved him to the point of losing herself, valued Zane more than her own life—how could she really bear to leave this family?
It was just a strategic retreat, throwing a tantrum.
If he went after her now, he would truly fall into her trap, making her even more demanding in the future.
"Don't bother with her." Richard's voice was ice-cold. "Since she wants to leave, let her. I'd like to see how long she can last without the Howard Family."
"Tell the guards, no matter how much she begs, don't let her back in!"
In Richard's fixed mindset, he was certain that Stella was playing hard to get, so it wouldn't be long before she came back begging for his forgiveness.
With this thought, he suddenly turned around, no longer looking toward the door, as if Stella's departure was just a trivial matter.
Lillian wanted to say something but stopped herself.
Zane's small hand grasped her fingers, "Lillian, Dad will divorce that woman now, right?"
Lillian lowered her head, her smile bitter, "Maybe your dad still has feelings for your mom."
Otherwise, why did he avoid answering when Stella mentioned divorce just now?
The idea that Richard liked Stella kept fermenting in Lillian's mind.
Hatred involuntarily surged in her heart.
Lillian crouched down and hugged Zane tightly, "Zane, maybe one day I'll have to leave you. I really can't bear to part with you."
Zane hugged Lillian hard, "Lillian, I won't let you go. If Dad really makes up with her, then I won't acknowledge him as my father anymore. I don't believe she's more important than me."
As he spoke, Zane rubbed his small hand against Lillian's face, "Lillian, don't worry. I'll never accept her as my mother! Never!"
...
The night was thick, and the cold was piercing.
At this moment, Stella was like a body stripped of its soul, walking aimlessly through the streets.
The blisters on her feet had long since burst, and the burning pain made her suffer terribly.
But she didn't stop walking.
She wanted to get farther away from that place, even farther.
She didn't know how long she had walked until Stella felt her vision darkening, and she had to lean against a cold lamppost by the roadside, gasping violently like a dying fish.
The cold air cut through her throat. Just as she didn't know where to spend the night, two extremely bright headlights approached from far away, precisely cutting through the darkness surrounding her.
Stella squinted slightly, watching the expensive car pull up beside her.
The window slowly rolled down.
When she saw clearly who was sitting inside, Stella's eyes widened suddenly.
The pain and humiliation that had accumulated all evening turned into scalding tears at this moment, bursting forth like a broken dam!
