Chapter 2 BLOODY WEDDING NIGHT

CHAPTER TWO

“Lets go,” the guard said.

“Master Kane is in his car and he is waiting. Remember, you are not allowed to look at him in his face, when you get home. You'd be given series of rules to abide by, you falter…..you die.

I nodded because there was nothing else I could do, and followed him out of the cold corridor. My wrists still hurt from the chains they used on me earlier, and my feet felt numb like I stopped owning my body the moment my world ended.

How did I even get here? How did my life twist into something like this in one night?

Sold!! To a man I never met. A man people whispered about as if his name alone could bruise you.

Sold to a man that would definitely hurt me.

Sold like something worthless.

It was supposed to be my wedding day. I was supposed to be in my room, smiling shyly, letting my husband help me out of my dress. I was supposed to be loved and kissed and held.

Instead I was walking to a stranger’s car as someone’s property.

And all I could think about was the moment everything went wrong.

It started the second we got back home after the wedding. Our mansion looked beautiful with candles and flowers everywhere. Liam had carried me over the threshold, laughing. I was blushing and covering my face like a child.

I went upstairs to freshen up and prepare myself. My chest was tight with nerves because I was still a virgin, and tonight was the night. I was excited and scared at the same time, but it was Liam. My Liam. The boy who held me when I lost my foster grandma. The boy who told me I was the only thing he had in this world. The boy who said he would die before hurting me.

I loved him more than I loved myself.

I didn’t have family. Just Grandma before she died last year, leaving the mansion to me. Liam supported me through everything. He made me feel like I wasn’t alone. He made me feel safe.

Until tonight.

I had stepped out of the bathroom, drying my face, when I heard his voice downstairs. His tone was low. Secretive.

“Dont worry,” he said into the phone. “After tonight, I’ll get her to sign the document.”

I froze.

Document?

What document?

The silence in my room felt strange. Heavy. Like the air was already warning me.

“What document?” I whispered to myself as I tiptoed closer to the stairs.

Then I heard him again.

“She thinks I like her. No no, it will just be for a while. She will be intoxicated and she will sign it. The house would be ours in no time.”

The house?

Mine??

Grandma’s??

My heart dropped so fast I thought I would faint.

“Liam?”

He turned around like someone poured ice water on him. His eyes widened and his face went pale.

“Samantha… baby… this is not…”

“What document?” My voice shook. “You were going to drug me? To sign the house over? My house?”

He stepped forward slowly, hands raised a little.

“Sam, listen to me. You are misunderstanding everything.”

“Who were you talking to?” My chest hurt so badly I could barely breathe. “How could you do this to me? You married me today. You told me you loved me.”

His face twisted with guilt.

“I am sorry, okay? I didn’t plan for things to get this far but… I love someone else. We really need the house and…..”

I don’t know what came over me. I rushed at him and started hitting him with everything in me. My fists landed on his chest, his shoulders, anywhere I could reach. Tears blurred my eyes until I could not see him clearly.

“You were using me? You used me?” I sobbed. “I loved you. I trusted you.”

“Samantha, wait. Stop.” He grabbed my wrists, trying to pull me close. “Samantha look at me.”

“No. No.” I shook my head and yanked myself free from his grip. “This marriage is over.”

I turned to run down the stairs.

“Samantha, wait…..”

I felt him try to grab my arm and I shoved him hard without thinking.

He stumbled.

His foot slipped on the top stair.

And then everything happened too fast.

“Arrrrrrrrgh!”

His scream cut through me like fire.

His body crashed down the stairs, hitting hard, rolling, until he stopped at the bottom.

I froze.

My entire world froze with me.

“Liam?” My voice was small. “Liam?”

I ran to him.

His body was twisted in a strange angle.

Blood pooled beneath his head, dark and thick.

“Liam. Please. Liam.”

I tapped his cheek. I shook him. Nothing.

His eyes were open but empty.

Still.

Gone!!

“No no no no no…” I grabbed my hair with both hands as panic exploded inside me. “Please don’t die on me. Liam please. Please.”

I scrambled around frantically, looking for my phone. My fingers were shaking so badly I could barely think.

I finally found it on the floor near the stairs, but before I could dial anything, the mansion bells rang.

“Dang… dang… dang…”

Deep. Loud. Echoing in every corner of the house.

I froze again.

The air around me changed.

Heavy. Cold. Wrong.

It felt like something entered my home.

I looked around slowly, trembling.

That was when I heard it.

A voice.

Not human.

“Samantha Veil.”

I turned slowly and gasped.

There was someone standing a few feet away from me.

Not a man.

Not anything I knew.

Tall. Dark. Eyes like burning silver. His presence sucked the warmth out of the walls.

“You have committed a grave sin.”

I stumbled back until my shoulder hit the wall.

“Please,” I whispered. “Please help me take him to the hospital. Please, I didn’t mean… he was lying to me. I found out and we argued and….he..he slipped” i said crying, ignoring the fact that the man in front of me was strangely looking

“You became a widow on your first day of marriage,” the being said in a cold, deep voice that echoed across the room. “By the law of the Sanctuary, you are guilty as charged.”

I shook my head violently.

“No. Please. I didn’t plan to kill him. I didn’t push him to die. He lied to me. He wanted to take everything. Please, just help him.”

“You will be taken to judgment,” the being continued. “You will be sentenced to brutality and hard labor.”

“No. Please. Listen to me.”

But he did not listen.

He exhaled, and the air around me turned black.

Everything disappeared.

The mansion.

Liam’s body.

The blood.

The warmth.

All gone.

There was only darkness swallowing me whole.

I must have fainted because when my eyes opened later, I was no longer in my home. I woke up somewhere cold, chained, with strangers dragging me like cargo. They didn’t listen when I screamed Liam’s name. They didn’t tell me where I was. They didn’t let me breathe.

I was judged, sentenced, and sold.

Sold like nothing.

And now the guard was leading me outside.

“Master Kane does not like waiting,” he said, pushing the door open.

A black car sat in the night.

The windows were tinted so dark I could see nothing inside.

My heart thumped painfully.

I didn’t know if I was walking to another prison or to the end of my life.

But I walked anyway because I had no choice anymore.

And Master Kane was waiting.
