Chapter 2: Taking the Blame
Facing Blake's sudden appearance, the expressions on Carl's family's faces weren't shock, but rather endless excitement.
This made Blake himself realize what was coming.
Over these five years, he had become crystal clear about the Reed family's way of doing things.
Their behavior was obviously not to welcome him home, but more like they needed something from him.
"Oh my Blake, you're finally back! Do you know how much Mom has missed you?"
Marina rushed toward Blake without hesitation, making a show of giving him a big hug.
"Cut it out, stop pretending. If you really cared about me, why didn't you visit me once in five years?"
"Just tell me - what's the trouble this time? What mess has Brian gotten himself into now?"
Blake directly stopped Marina's act, firmly rejecting her fake affection.
And he didn't hesitate to speak his mind, exposing the Reed family's long-standing pretense.
"Blake, what kind of talk is that?"
"We're your family. How can you speak like this?"
Blake's words made Carl's face look terrible.
He immediately pulled out his authority as a father, wanting to discipline Blake like he used to!
"Family?"
Blake laughed coldly.
"Give me a break - you're not worthy of being my family!"
"Just say what you want. I'm only giving you one chance, otherwise I'm leaving!"
Seeing Blake like this, Carl and the others exchanged glances, then he spoke again.
"Brian offended the Gould family. Now they want someone from our family to apologize in person. Brian is too weak for this task, and I'm too old - it wouldn't be appropriate. After thinking it over, you might be the only option!"
Blake sneered mockingly, "You people are really something."
"Five years ago Brian made a mistake and you made me go to prison in his place. Five years later, the moment I get out, you want me to apologize for Brian again. Looks like in your hearts, you've never considered me your son!"
Marina opened her mouth, about to explain something, but Blake cut her off directly.
"No need to say more. I know exactly what you're thinking - no need to keep pretending now."
"I can help Brian go apologize, consider it repaying you for raising me. But I have one condition!"
"Name it! As long as we can do it, we definitely won't refuse."
The three of them reacted in perfect unison.
None of them cared about Blake wanting to cut ties with them. All their attention was focused on the fact that Blake was willing to help.
Blake snorted coldly. The last bit of affection remaining in his heart completely vanished.
From this point on, all that remained between them was a transaction, nothing more!
"I want to know who my biological parents are!"
Biological parents?
Carl and Marina exchanged glances, both looking somewhat panicked.
"We are your biological parents. I don't understand what you're talking about."
Marina offered an explanation, choosing to avoid the question.
"If that's the case, then forget about me going to apologize for Brian!"
Blake's attitude was very firm, immediately rejecting the Carl family's request.
"No!" Brian panicked immediately upon hearing this, quickly urging Carl and Marina: "Mom, Dad, whatever you know, just tell him! I don't want to go die!"
Carl gritted his teeth and chose to compromise.
"That's right, you're not our biological son."
"When you were little, a woman brought you to our house, then left. As for who this woman was, we don't know either."
"Really don't know? Or are you just telling me that?"
Blake stared at Carl intensely, pressing him forcefully.
"I refuse to answer that question right now!"
"After you go to the Gould family, I'll tell you!"
Carl also took a firm stance, choosing to remain silent on this question.
It seemed he was worried Blake would go back on his word after learning the truth!
"Fine!"
"But if you dare deceive me again, I promise I'll make the entire Reed family fall!!!"
Blake finally agreed to Carl's idea, but also made a new warning.
For him, the purpose of coming back this time was to investigate the truth about his origins.
Since Carl had clues here, he definitely wouldn't miss this chance.
Besides, the Gould family that Brian offended this time had significant influence throughout all of Europe.
With their connections, they might know even more.
Facing Blake's threat, Carl really wanted to lecture him, but looking at Blake's expression, the words at the tip of his tongue were ultimately swallowed back.
"As long as you keep your promise, I guarantee what I give you will be the information you want!"
"The Gould family is demanding someone now, you'd better hurry over!"
Carl's eyes showed a bit more cruelty.
Regarding Blake's origins, Carl definitely wouldn't tell the truth.
When they adopted Blake back then, it wasn't because they pitied him - it was entirely because that woman gave them enough money.
If Blake really learned the relevant details and demanded money, then everything the Reed family owned would be gone!
But in the current situation, not agreeing with Blake wasn't an option either.
The best approach was to get Blake to go apologize quickly.
That way, given the Gould family's way of doing things, Blake would definitely go and never return.
Then the promise he made would naturally no longer count.
Watching Carl's changing expressions, Blake sneered inwardly, having already seen through everything.
But he was no longer the hothead from five years ago.
The entire American underground world was in his hands - what was a mere Gould family?
...
As agreed, Blake represented the Reed family and came to the Gould Estate to apologize.
The moment he arrived, he was surrounded!
A young man with an obvious limp slowly walked toward Blake from the crowd.
"From the Reed family?"
"Yes!"
"Very good!"
"That night, you were the one who injured my leg, weren't you?"
"That's right!"
Since he had agreed to Carl's request, Blake naturally had no need to go back on his word at this point.
Hearing Blake's response, George nodded with a sinister expression.
"Very good. I like people like you who own up to what they do."
"Men, break both his legs first!"
