Chapter 4: An Unexpected Delight
Take George's Place in the Arranged Marriage?
Hearing Rodney's purpose, Blake was slightly stunned.
Blake had heard of the Gilbert family.
Throughout Paris, the Gilberts could be considered one of the top families.
Having the chance to connect with them was absolutely a dream goal for countless people.
But now the Gilbert family had chosen the Gould family, chosen George Gold, yet the entire Gould family had no intention of agreeing. Instead, they wanted Blake, who had injured George, to go for the arranged marriage.
Was the Gould family really that kind-hearted?
The answer was obviously no.
He had just broken George's leg, yet instead of holding him accountable, they arranged a marriage for Blake.
And it was an upward marriage alliance!
By all logic, this whole thing seemed strange everywhere and was clearly abnormal.
After reaching this conclusion, the motive behind it became obvious.
There must be something fishy about this arranged marriage.
"I can go for the marriage, but I need to know the real reason why you're refusing it!"
"As long as you tell me the truth, I'll agree to the marriage no matter what. But if you dare deceive me, then sorry, this matter is off the table. Whatever revenge you want, I'll face it head-on!"
Blake wasn't someone who just accepted things passively. Since he knew there was a problem, he definitely wanted to get to the bottom of it.
Compared to complicated investigations, Rodney, who proposed this idea, must know all the information.
Facing Blake's straightforward questioning, Rodney was somewhat surprised.
According to his expectations, Blake would most likely choose to agree at this moment to settle things peacefully.
Even if he suspected something fishy behind this, he wouldn't dare bring it up directly.
But this Blake didn't play by the rules.
This put his plan in a difficult position.
If he told the truth, Blake would definitely know this was deliberately making things difficult for him, and there was no guarantee he wouldn't go back on his word and refuse directly!
But if he didn't tell him, Blake's attitude was exceptionally firm, even prepared for a fight to the death.
After hesitating for a long time, Rodney still bit the bullet and chose to tell the truth.
Shelley Gilbert's problem wasn't any secret.
As long as Blake wanted to investigate, he could easily find out.
If that was the case, then whether to hide it or not didn't make much difference.
Might as well take a gamble and see if Blake would keep his promise.
If Blake really chose to go back on his word, then Rodney could only choose mutual destruction.
After all, Blake was just one person, while the entire Gould family had endless connections.
Wanting to destroy Blake would still be easy as pie!
"To be honest, this Shirley does have some issues. She seems to have some kind of condition and goes crazy from time to time. Marrying her might be somewhat dangerous!"
"That's exactly why we've never dared let George go through with the marriage, and we've been trying every way to delay the wedding!"
After hearing Rodney's explanation, Blake nodded.
This explanation was pretty much what he had expected.
"Alright, as long as you haven't lied to me, I can agree to this request!"
Rodney was overjoyed and quickly said,
"Excellent!"
"From now on, all our past grudges are wiped clean, and you, Blake, are the Gould family's best friend!"
Blake saw right through Rodney's calculations, but he couldn't be bothered to get entangled now.
When you accept someone's request, you fulfill your duty.
Since he had chosen to agree to settle this matter for the Reed family, he would definitely keep his promise.
Moreover, this arranged marriage wasn't really any threat to him.
He even felt from Rodney's description that this Shelley Gilbert might be like him, with an equally unusual bloodline.
Even just to verify this point, he would definitely agree to this request!
After some brief pleasantries, Blake was directly sent to the Gilbert home by members of the Gould family.
After Blake revealed his identity, the Gilbert family's butler Oliver looked at him with slight sympathy, then slowly said,
"Follow me!"
Blake followed Oliver's steps, moving forward, and soon arrived at the Gilbert family's reception room.
The entire reception room was exceptionally luxurious, resplendent and magnificent!
Looking around, everything displayed nobility and extravagance.
"Mr. Blake Reed, please have a seat. I'll go inform the family head."
Oliver made a welcoming gesture to Blake, then had a servant bring Blake a cup of coffee before hurrying away.
Just then, continuous sounds of things being smashed came from the room.
Immediately after, a group of servants rushed down from the second floor.
Every person's face was filled with fear.
"Oh my God!"
"She's a lunatic, an absolute lunatic!"
As Blake looked on in surprise, a middle-aged man in a white coat also ran down from upstairs, complaining.
Behind him followed an extremely beautiful woman.
The woman had fluffy, soft, light golden long hair, deep-set eyes, a pair of ice-blue pupils cold as a frozen pond, long lashes slightly lowered, a high nose bridge, skin white as jade, delicate and flawless, a graceful figure, slender waist that could be held in one grip, exquisite curves—like an exotic beauty walking out of an oil painting.
However, this beauty's current state seemed off. Her eyes revealed a bloodthirsty coldness, as if she could kill someone at any moment.
She was closely following the male doctor, as if she wanted to tear him apart alive.
At this critical moment, another white figure suddenly appeared from her diagonal rear.
The syringe in hand precisely inserted into the woman's neck, and the previously violent woman instantly collapsed to the ground.
"Oh my goodness!"
"That was terrifying!"
The doctor who completed this task let out a long breath of relief.
"How is it, Dr. Robert? Can you cure my daughter's illness?"
Seeing the woman controlled, another handsome middle-aged man who resembled the woman somewhat quickly walked toward the doctor who had just acted, asking urgently.
"I'm very sorry, Mr. Gilbert. Miss Gilbert's condition is too strange. I've done all kinds of specialized tests for her and can't find any problems!"
"In this situation, I'm powerless to help!"
Stone Gilbert shook his head helplessly upon hearing the response.
"Forget it, I know you did your best, Dr. Robert. Oliver, take Dr. Robert and the other doctors to get their payment. Don't neglect them!"
Oliver nodded, then whispered a few words in Stone's ear. The latter's gaze unconsciously turned toward Blake.
At this moment, Blake, who had been observing Shirley all along, could be 100% certain that she also carried the same special bloodline as him.
This discovery made Blake exceptionally pleased.
It seemed his proactive approach to this arranged marriage was the right bet. This Shelley Gilbert might very well be the female with the special bloodline he was looking for!
