Chapter One
Blair’s POV
For a hundred years, I used my blood to suppress Grant’s Dragon Frenzy, helping him rise to become Head of the Gold Dragon Clan.
The day of his Ascension Ceremony was also supposed to be the day of our Bonding Ceremony.
Instead, in front of guests from every supernatural race, he named Lacey, a Light Fae, as his Consort. He said I could stay at his side, but only as his Personal Guard, without so much as a title.
I swallowed my pride and begged him to reconsider.
In return, the dragon army razed the wolves’ territory and slaughtered nearly my entire pack.
As the final drops of blood drained from my body, I saw Lacey nestled in Grant’s arms, laughing without a care in the world.
When I opened my eyes again, I was back on the day of Grant’s Ascension Ceremony.
This time, I wanted to see how long he could keep his throne without me.
“Blair, I know how loyal you’ve been to the dragons, and I know how much you’ve sacrificed to keep my Dragon Frenzy under control. But Lacey needs my protection more than you do.”
Grant sat on the Golden Throne, idly turning his scepter in one hand as if his decision were the most reasonable thing in the world.
“She’s a vulnerable Light Fae. Without me, she wouldn’t survive in a world like this. But you’re the Crown Princess of the Silver Moon Pack. You’re strong enough to take care of yourself.”
“So I’ve decided that Lacey will become the Consort of the Gold Dragon Clan. As for you, considering everything you’ve done for me, I’ll allow you to stay by my side as my Personal Guard.”
Whispers immediately spread through the hall.
“Weren’t Grant and Blair already engaged? Wasn’t today supposed to be their Bonding Ceremony?”
“Exactly. Everyone knows how much Blair has done for him over the past hundred years.”
“He expects the Crown Princess of the wolves to stay at his side as nothing more than a guard? He’s humiliating her in front of everyone.”
“Keep your voice down. Can’t you see how protective he is of that Light Fae?”
I let out a bitter laugh as I listened.
He wanted me, the Crown Princess and future ruler of the Silver Moon Pack, to stay at his side without any title or status?
What did he think I was?
His mistress?
Lacey melted against Grant’s shoulder as if she could barely support herself.
“Blair, please don’t be angry with Grant. This is all my fault. If my Light Magic didn’t ease his Dragon Frenzy, none of this would’ve happened. You’ve always been the bigger person. You’ll step aside and let us be together, won’t you?”
I didn’t cry or cause a scene. I simply stood there and watched them.
In my previous life, I had stood in this exact spot, crying as I asked Grant why he was doing this to me.
I had thrown away every shred of dignity and begged him to reconsider. I told him Lacey’s Light Magic could only provide temporary relief. Only my blood could truly suppress his Dragon Frenzy.
All I received in return was Grant’s disgust and Lacey’s subtle taunts.
Later, Grant believed Lacey’s lies and invaded my homeland just to please her. His dragon army razed my territory before dragging me to Dragonhold Square and stringing me up in chains.
I was forced to watch my people die. I watched the banner of the Silver Moon Pack get trampled into the dirt.
Even now that I had another chance at life, the memory still left me struggling to breathe.
“Blair? Did you hear a word I said?”
Grant frowned, his voice turning impatient.
“This is the best offer you’re going to get. Accept it in front of everyone. Don’t make a fool of us in front of the representatives from the other races on the Supernatural Council.”
I drew a slow breath and forced down the murderous rage churning inside me.
“The best offer?”
“Grant, has the Dragon Frenzy finally fried your brain?”
I pulled the Dragonscale Engagement Ring from my finger.
“Do you really think I care about being your Consort? Do you think the Silver Moon Pack was born just to bleed for the dragons?”
An uproar swept through the hall.
No one had expected me, the woman who had always obeyed Grant without question, to defy him at his own Ascension Ceremony.
Grant shot to his feet, his face dark with rage.
“Blair! Watch your mouth! Do you have any idea who you’re talking to?”
“Of course I do.” I looked at him as if he were already dead. “I’m talking to an arrogant fool who can’t keep his word.”
“Blair, how could you say that to Grant?” Lacey shrank deeper into his arms, though a flash of satisfaction crossed her eyes.
“Shut up. No one asked a worthless little fae like you to speak.”
My Silver Moon Aura exploded outward, sweeping through the hall. The force drained the color from Lacey’s face and nearly knocked her off her feet.
I hurled the Dragonscale Engagement Ring at the floor. It shattered into several pieces.
“As of today, our engagement is over.” I raised my chin. “So is the Protection Pact between the Silver Moon Pack and the Gold Dragon Clan. From this day forward, the Silver Moon Pack and the Gold Dragon Clan are finished. Our paths will never cross again.”
