Chapter 7

The gazes of these people made her feel even more fragile and vulnerable.

“Why is it so lively?”

“Wanda, who are you talking to? Our family shouldn’t get involved with those shady people from outside.”

A sharp, bitter remark suddenly came, Wanda Lawrence’s eyes flickered, glaring at Mona Lawrence with deeper meaning. The next second, she released Mona Lawrence and turned her head, indeed seeing the elderly Lawrence lady approaching.

She smiled and stepped forward, calling out, "Grandma, you're here! Why didn't you say anything when you came? I could have come with you!"

"You see, we're standing right here together," Lawrence heard what Wanda Lawrence said and her expression eased slightly.

She glanced sideways at Glen Lawrence beside her, a hint of disdain in her eyes, "He's not even your dad, always dragging his feet. Look at him, young as he is, always procrastinating, taking more time than even this old lady of mine."

Glen Lawrence, standing beside the elderly Mrs. Lawrence, smiled ingratiatingly at her words, "Well, I'm not trying to drive slowly for the sake of not getting into accidents, am I?"

“Besides, there are so many things at the company, and you suddenly have to come to the hospital. I also need to take time to organize some documents, right?”

“I know your company has a lot going on, but you also have to come to the hospital, don’t you? Otherwise, people outside won’t know what to say about our family! Leaving your ex-wife in the hospital and making it seem like we don’t care about her!”

“They don’t know, but you’re such a compassionate person. Even though she’s your ex-wife, you still take good care of her in the hospital. It’s a huge sum of medical expenses every year, something not every family can afford. Our family is truly unlucky!”

Lawrence the old lady was saying while pretending to wipe her tears, Zona Lawrence stood ly at the door watching the harmonious scene of three people, feeling her heart choked.

The surrounding gazes were divided into two factions, looking at her like looking at a garbage and a scoundrel, but the three people walking over from the opposite side had a look of envy.

“Yeah… who wouldn’t envy that?” Zona Lawrence muttered to herself, her tone laced with a hint of mockery.

In no time, the onlookers were driven back to the rooms by medical staff, the hospital corridor returned to silence, and the grief on the face of the elderly Lawrence had also changed expression at this moment.

He saw the other person staring sharply at Zona Lawrence, after glancing at Wanda Lawrence, with naked disdain and contempt, "Why is she here?"

Wanda Lawrence sighed and said, "My sister is here because she misses her mother too. I just told her not to come here. If Auntie Longwen wakes up, she might get angry with her."

"What does it matter if she's an aunt or not? Who told you to call her that? That bitch doesn't deserve to be called like that!"

Mrs. Lawrence heard that Wanda Lawrence actually called that bitch an aunt and was furious.

Zona Lawrence heard this and her hand by her side tightened into a fist. She trembled all over but dared not object.

She no longer has the qualification to resist, but she is unwilling to leave her mother like this. Her mother is now lying unconscious in the hospital bed, and she dares not leave like this.

Lawrence the old lady snorted coldly, walked up to Zona Lawrence with the help of Wanda Lawrence and Glen Lawrence, her tone no longer as kind as before.

"Wanda Lawrence, if you know what's good for you, get out of here. The Lawrence family doesn't have any disgraceful creatures like you."

"Grandma."

Zona Lawrence unconsciously called out, but after she did, Lady Lawrence seemed as if she had been touched by something dirty, and immediately retreated a large step backward.

Her retreat made both Wanda Lawrence and Glen Lawrence somewhat flustered.

Glenn Lawrence shot Zona Lawrence a glare with a hint of annoyance, his tone reproachful, "How dare you talk to Grandma like that? You scared Grandma, you know? Don't you apologize quickly?"

Zona Lawrence looked at her father, who was cursing her without understanding the situation, a mocking arc forming at the corner of her lips, but she still didn't dare to resist.

Submissive eyes nodded, "I'm sorry, Grandma, it's all my fault, I shouldn't have scared you."

Lawrence Old Lady patted her chest, as if she was really quite frightened, still unimpressed by her words.

"Who are you calling Grandma? Don't call me Grandma. I've already said it, there's nothing like you in the Lawrence family. You're just like your lowly mother, a disgrace to our Xu family."

“Grandma, please don’t say that about my mom. She’s your daughter-in-law, after all, and your husband’s wife.”

“What nonsense are you talking about? She’s nothing, she doesn’t deserve to be our daughter-in-law.”

Lawrence the old lady retorted sharply, while Wanda Lawrence had already reined in her temper, standing aside with her arms crossed, watching the drama unfold.

She saw Zona Lawrence being targeted by Lady Lawrence, and the malicious glee in her eyes could no longer be concealed. She would occasionally stir up trouble, fueling Lady Lawrence's anger.

"Grandma, it seems Zona Lawrence simply doesn't take you into account. Look, no matter what you say, she just hears it and forgets it."

“At first, it was also her who brought great shame to our family. When she went to prison, it was as if our family’s dignity was directly torn to the ground, trampled upon by others.”

“Do you have any idea, in these past few years, when I went out shopping or had gatherings with my close friends, they would always mention Zona Lawrence. I could see the ridicule on their faces, which made me lose so much face. I bet they laugh at our family behind our backs.”

Lawrence the old lady indeed got angry after hearing, she snatched back her hand which was being helped by Glen Lawrence and Wanda Lawrence, and walked up to Zona Lawrence angrily.

With a slap, she struck Zona Lawrence's face. Zona Lawrence had just been slapped by Wanda Lawrence, and now she was slapped again. Her cheeks swelled instantly on both sides, her face swollen almost like a pig's head.

Her eyes brimmed with tears, but she dared not resist; seeing this, Lady Lawrence felt slightly relieved in her heart.

"You are not allowed to say you are from our Lawrence family when you go out. You don't deserve it. Moreover, you are just as base and low as your mother."

"People of the same kind gather together, and so do things. What kind of mother raises such a monster. I'm telling you, keep your distance from everyone in our family from now on."

After speaking, she glanced back at Glen Lawrence, "It's okay that your father was fooled by your mother back then, but don't think that by putting on such a vulnerable act, we'll be taken in by you."

Zona Lawrence covered her face and stood there with her head bowed, like a pillar. She could only imagine herself as a pillar without thoughts or a heart, though she was now in tatters.

She originally thought she could endure these insults, but there is a gap between imagination and reality.
