Chapter 5 Saving the Idol

Elizabeth looked toward the sound and saw an elderly man with white hair lying flat on the ground.

A crowd quickly gathered around, but no one dared to step forward to help.

"Everyone, please make way! I know first aid!"

Elizabeth pushed through the crowd and quickly crouched down beside the old man.

The old man had no pulse and wasn't breathing.

The situation was critical.

Elizabeth immediately loosened the old man's collar and belt, turned his head to the side, and cleared any foreign objects from his mouth.

Then she placed her hands together and began chest compressions.

One, two, three...

The wound on her right hand was still bleeding, and the continuous pressing made the wound tear even worse.

But she felt no pain in her hand at all.

The ongoing effort made Elizabeth's arms gradually sore and weak, but she never stopped.

She knew that for a patient in cardiac arrest, every second of rescue time was precious.

At that moment, she also recognized the old man before her.

Dwayne Larson, a highly renowned conductor in the industry, and an idol she had admired since childhood.

In her previous life, this idol's death had saddened her for a long time.

In this life, she would never let this idol die.

Just then, the sound of an ambulance siren grew from distant to near, arriving at the scene in time.

The paramedics immediately took over, replacing Elizabeth to continue the rescue work.

Elizabeth also got into the ambulance with them.

It wasn't until Dwayne was wheeled into the emergency room that Elizabeth's tense nerves finally relaxed.

Only at this moment did she feel the sharp pain coming from her right hand.

She looked down at her palm—the wound was a bloody mess, with blood still seeping out.

She was about to head to the emergency department to get the wound treated and bandaged when a nurse hurried after her, "Miss, please wait!"

"Are you the person who just rescued Mr. Larson?" the nurse asked.

Elizabeth nodded, "Yes, that was me."

"Great!" The nurse breathed a sigh of relief. "Mr. Larson's family will be here soon, and they want to thank you in person. Could you come with me for a moment?"

After a brief consideration, Elizabeth nodded, "Okay."

She followed the nurse to the emergency department hallway and found a chair to sit and wait.

Before long, her phone rang. The caller was Primrose Wells.

Primrose was her only close friend.

"Elizabeth, where are you? I just got off work and brought you your favorite strawberry cake." Primrose's voice was bright and cheerful.

"I'm at the emergency department of your hospital," Elizabeth said, taking a deep breath.

"Emergency department? What happened? Are you feeling sick somewhere?"

"I'm fine, just hurt my hand and came to get it bandaged."

"Your hand is hurt? Is it serious? Stay where you are, I'm coming right now!" Without waiting for her to continue, Primrose hurriedly hung up.

Just a few minutes later, Primrose rushed over to her.

When Primrose saw Elizabeth's bloody right hand, her face instantly changed.

"Oh my God! Elizabeth, how did your hand get hurt like this?" Primrose pulled her hand up to examine it carefully with concern. "The wound is so deep, why are you only treating it now? Don't you care about your own body at all?"

"It's fine, just a minor injury. I just ran into an elderly man who suddenly collapsed at the hospital entrance. I helped with first aid, which delayed treating my wound."

"This is not a minor injury! The wound is so deep you can see the bone!" Primrose gave her a helpless look. "Come on, follow me to my office. I'll treat your wound."

Primrose pulled Elizabeth into her office and began cleaning and treating her wound.

"What exactly happened? How did your hand get hurt so badly? Did the Wilson family bully you again?"

Primrose couldn't help but ask what was on her mind.

Elizabeth was silent for a moment, then nodded gently.

She told Primrose everything that had happened today.

"These people are too much, absolutely unreasonable!"

Primrose was shaking with anger.

"The Wilson family has always been prejudiced, completely ignoring your efforts and excellence! And that bastard Lonnie, I knew he was no good!"

"Elizabeth, you should have cut ties with them completely long ago. You were too kind and tolerant before, which is why they kept bullying you. From now on, you need to be tough and protect yourself."

"I understand."

Elizabeth showed a self-mocking smile.

In her previous life, she had realized it too late.

But fortunately, she had been given a chance to start over.

"I've completely drawn the line with them. I won't let them hurt me anymore."

"I won't give up this principal position audition to Claire either. I'll win against her fair and square with my own abilities."

"That's right!"

Primrose was very pleased. "Your professional abilities are far better than Claire's. This principal position should be yours."

"By the way, did Lonnie pester you after you broke up with him?" Primrose continued asking.

"Not sure." Elizabeth shook her head. "I've already blocked all his contact information."

"He probably still thinks I'm just throwing a tantrum and that once I calm down, I'll go back to him on my own."

"He's delusional!"

Primrose scoffed.

She had always disliked Lonnie, knowing he had been emotionally manipulating Elizabeth for a long time. She had wanted to advise them to break up.

But Elizabeth had been too deep in that relationship before, so she could only watch silently.

Now that Elizabeth had finally woken up and broken free, Primrose was genuinely happy for her.

"The sooner you get away from that kind of person, the better! If you ever soften up and get back together with him, I'll never forgive you!"

Elizabeth smiled gently, "Don't worry, I won't."

Just then, there was a knock on the office door.

"Come in," Primrose said.

The door opened, and a man with a dignified and cool demeanor walked in.

He had deep, chiseled features, a high nose bridge, and thin lips pressed tightly together, with a calm and restrained presence.

His gaze swept across the office and finally settled on Elizabeth.

"Excuse me, are you Ms. Elizabeth Perez?"

His voice was deep and magnetic, with a rich, steady tone.

Hearing this, Elizabeth's ears turned slightly warm.

She nodded gently in response, "Yes, that's me."

"Hello, I'm Dwayne's nephew, Stanley Larson."

Stanley walked up to Elizabeth and politely extended his hand.

"I sincerely thank you for saving my uncle today. If it weren't for your timely rescue, the consequences would have been unthinkable."

Elizabeth raised her uninjured left hand and shook his hand lightly. "Mr. Larson, hello, you're welcome. Mr. Larson is a conductor I've always admired. Being able to save him is my honor."

Stanley was slightly taken aback—he hadn't expected Elizabeth to know his uncle.

He withdrew his hand, his gaze falling on Elizabeth's bandaged right hand, his brow furrowing slightly. "Your hand—was it injured while rescuing my uncle?"

"No." Elizabeth shook her head gently. "It was accidentally injured earlier."

Stanley didn't continue asking. He had already heard most of their conversation from outside the door.

He took a check from his pocket, placed it on the table, and gently pushed it toward Elizabeth.

"Ms. Perez, this is a small token of my appreciation for saving my uncle."

"I apologize, I unintentionally overheard your conversation just now."

"I know you may be facing some difficulties at the moment. I hope this money can provide you with some help."

Elizabeth glanced at the check—the amount was five hundred thousand dollars.

She gently pushed the check back. "Mr. Stanley Larson, thank you for your kindness. But I didn't rescue Mr. Dwayne Larson for a reward."

"Being able to save a senior I admire is already very satisfying to me. I can't accept this money."

Stanley looked at her clear and honest eyes, knowing she wasn't putting on an act but genuinely didn't want to accept the gift.

He didn't insist further. Instead, he took out a business card from his pocket and handed it to Elizabeth.

"If you ever encounter any trouble in the future, or need any help, feel free to contact me anytime."
