Chapter 2 How Dare That Bastard?!

Chapter One

EIGHT DAYS EARLIER

The light from the chandeliers mounted on the high ceilings of the Voss Estate, shone down on the polished marble floors of its hallway as Serena Marsh Voss made her way across it.

Behind her and below her, there was the distant hum of a party. This was the contract signing for the Reeve Meridian Project, a billion dollar project between the Reeve Holdings and Voss Pharmaceuticals

Her husband, Julian Voss, heir to the Voss Empire had supposedly gone to get some important documents but it’s been twenty minutes and he’s nowhere to be found.

The Board of directors as well as her mother-in-law, Evelyn Voss, the Matriarch of the Voss family, were waiting in the large hall to get “family” pictures with the CEO from Reeve Holdings.

Serena just wanted to get out of there. She wanted the night to be over so she could go back home to her son, Theo.

Today had been Theo’s appointment at the doctors.

He was a beautiful seven year old boy, her entire joy but sadly, he’d been diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia a few years ago, and if he does not get a bone transplant soon, her beautiful boy would no longer be with her.

Serena shook her head to clear those hateful thoughts taking ahold of her heart, and making it beat loudly in her ears.

She would not think such.

Just merely seeing Theo suffering through his treatments and tests, was enough to wreck her over and over again.

She would not dare to think he would not survive.

Thankfully, a donor had been found by her husband two days before. Serena smiled happily, letting the thought flood her mind as she made her way along the second floor of the Vast mansion, towards her husband’s study where she was sure he’d surely be.

He was not there.

Serena was puzzled. Was he in the bedroom then?

She made her way across to his bedroom, and a muffled sound coming through the door made her pause in her tracks.

“What the hell was that?”

It had sounded like…a graon or something.

Was Julian in pain?

She got closer to the door which was slightly open, and her entire world shattered right before her eyes.

Her husband Julian was half-naked, chest bared and lips locked with a brown haired woman whose legs were wrapped around his waist like a vice, as Julian pinned her against his desk.

This was Camille Reyes. A family friend of the Voss family. A woman who was a supposed guest of her mother-in-law in the Voss Empire.

Why the hell was she straddling her husband, and sliding her hands all over him like she owned him?

Serena had forgotten how to breathe. She did not know what came over her, but she could not just turn away from the door.

The pain crashed into her at the sight of the betrayal, almost making her crash to her knees

Julian was cheating on her?!

Inside, Julian let out a guttural groan as he brought his mouth down on Camille’s luscious breasts, feasting on it like an animal.

Camille moaned, lolling her head back, and she let out a breathless laugh, “Babe, you’re so rough today. I just love it when you ravish me!” She grabbed his head and pressed it towards her chest, moaning and sighing contentedly, “Do you also do this…do you also ravish that bitch Serena this way?”

Julian took his mouth off Camille’s breast, and slid his hand under her skirt which was pulled up and bunched up all around her bosom.

“No, never,” he uttered, his voice hoarse from pleasure as he caressed her thigh, “She disgusts me, Camille. There’s no way I’m touching a woman like her. You are the only one for me, pumpkin. The only one.”

Camille threw back her head and laughed delightedly, the sound grating to Serena’s ears and the sight before her, a dagger straight to the heart.

He was right. They had never consummated their marriage.

Their marriage felt more like room mates living in a huge house and sharing a son situation

Theo had been born through IVF, because two years into their marriage, Julian refused to touch her.

When the Board of Directors at Voss Empire demanded an heir, Serena thought her marriage would officially be consummated.

However, Julian brought up the IVF, saying he couldn’t sleep with her because of a trauma he has.

This trauma was unexplained, and Julian definitely did not look sorry when he was relaying this message.

“I will give you the child you want,” he’d said stiffly, like she’d been the one clamoring for it, like she was a bother, “But don’t expect me to sleep with you. I have a trauma, Serena, and I can’t be intimate with a woman that way. This is the only way to satisfy the board.”

Serena had agreed quietly, hoping her child would give her some solace in her otherwise dreary life.

So far, he’d been a joy to her despite his illness.

But here he was, half-naked with a woman beneath him, apparently with no trauma.

She needed no soothsayer to tell her that he’d only avoided consummating his marriage with her because he hated her.

This was not just mere speculation on its own.

She’d been married to Julian for nine years and she’d never known peace, both from him and his mother.

Inside the room, Camille was still laughing, “I can’t wait for when you finally leave her,” she pouted, "I can't stand her being married to you, Julian. That should have been my position, all of it! Everything she has!”

Julian chuckled, then kissed her forehead gently in a way that made Serena’s stomach turned.

“Relax Pumpkin, she’s just a placeholder. As soon as Theo has his surgery next week, and she transfers the rights of the Marsh land to him, we’d get rid of her,”

He spoke as though he was discussing taking out the ashes in the cigar tray. The flippant coldness of his words had Serena trembling, her body sagging against the wall as it could no longer hold her.

Get rid of her? Julian would dare?!

Anger coursed through her body, and tears blurred her vision as she stood breathing hard against the door.

How dare that bastard?!

The rage in her heart was enough to burn down a whole room but it was replaced quickly by numbing shock when Camille uttered her next words.

“Oh thank goodness,” she said as she threw her arms around Julian’s neck, “Then we can all finally be together. You, me and our son, Theo.”
