Chapter 4 Help Me, Please! Anybody!
Chapter Three
The hall plunged into stunned silence, the soft classical music which had filled the air moments earlier coming to an abrupt stop, as even the orchestra leaned in to see the drama.
Camille had stumbled to the floor from the sheer force of Serena’s slap. She sat on the floor, holding her reddened cheek as her chest heaved from anger and fear.
“Y…you…you dare to slap me?!” She croaked angrily.
“Camille!” Julian thundered as he hurried to pick the now sobbing blonde from the floor. Enraged he turned to Serena, “You vicious bitch, have you gone completely ma..”
Serena slapped him as well, and he stumbled back in shock almost tripping over Camille.
“My son!” Evelyn cried out in anguish, “Serena, how dare you lay your hands on him?!”
Julian blinked at Serena, surprise freezing his features over. He looked over at her and was stunned at the rage in her emerald eyes.
What the fuck? Why was she so angry?
Serena was never angry with him.
No, Serena loved him to death and would never dare to do anything that would make him angry.
That was the only leverage he had to do everything he was doing against her currently.
True, he could not stand her and hated that he was married to her against his will.
But he was not used to this fierce woman.
He needed the docile fool which he’d married, and by God, he would get her.
The muscles in his chin bunched dangerously as he glared at her, “What do you mean by this, Serena?” He asked, his voice low and barely controlled, “Are you tired of living?!”
Serena glared at Julian, “You cheating bastard,” she spat out and Julian’s eyes widened in alarm as she went on, “You think I don’t know what’s going on?! You not only cheat on me with your first love, Camille Reyes, but you dared to have a love child and swap him with mine?! HOW FUCKING DARE YOU?!”
Everyone in the hall gasped in horror, and in the next instant, began murmuring one to another in disbelief.
“Did I just hear right? Julian Voss is a cheating husband?!”
“I thought Camille Reyes was just a guest at the Voss Estate. Turns out she’s is first love! Have they been cheating under Serena’s nose all this while?!”
“Poor Serena! And what’s this about her son been swapped?! Are they for real?!”
Those words, which were murmured in such a manner that it was clearly heard by whomever it was directed to, sliced deep into the hearts of the Voss family members and they panicked immediately.
Camille had gone white and so had Julian.
Infact, the entire family exchanged knowing looks of horror which made Serena stagger back in shock.
So everyone knew about it.
Everyone except her.
Julian quickly recovered, and he stepped up to Serena, covering his nervousness with a laugh, “Serena, why are you talking about?” He said as he grabbed her arm and drew her towards himself, “Is your depression acting up again?”
“I don’t have depression! Let go of me!”
“Oh but you do, Serena,” Camille put in, her fake smile nearly blinding, “You have been so stressed out lately caring for a sick child that you’ve been depressed. Why don’t you take care of yourself, dear?”
“I said, I am not depressed, you skanky bitch!” Serena uttered fiercely, trying unsuccessfully to pull away from Julian but to no avail, “Let go of me, you bastard!”
Suddenly, a strong hand clasped around her other arm and pulled her. It was the gentleman with the storm gray eyes.
For a moment, everyone seemed to hold their breath.
“Do as the lady says,” he ordered, his deep voice calm but with an underlying dangerous current, “Let go of her!”
Julian looked constipated.
The veins on his forehead stood out and looked like they would pop in any minute, “What did you just say to me?”
He glared at the tall man. He did not recognize him but knew he was one of Marcus Reeve’s people from Reeve Meridian Holdings.
A Mr. Damien something. How dare he think he had a say here?
The tall man would not budge however, and only stared down Julian with terrifying storm-gray eyes.
“I said, Let her go!”
“Who do you think you are to butt in?!” Evelyn snapped at the gentleman, her face contorted with rage, “This is a family matter! It’s none of your business!”
“Exactly!” Julian said through gritted teeth, giving off a creepy smile, “This is my wife! And it’s not the first time she’s acted this way, good sir. She’s just depressed and needs to retire at once!”
Serena swung her hand away from his viciously, “I am not depressed!” She uttered strongly, “You’re just saying that to take attention from you, and your cheating mistress. Julian Voss, I tell you, you won’t get away with this!”
Julian grabbed her suddenly, pulling her towards himself to growl in her ear, “Serena, you stupid bitch, you’d better behave yourself and go upstairs, or I’ll not only take your son’s bone marrow. I’ll make sure he ceases to exist as well!”
Serena froze in horror, and her eyes pooled with hot tears. She glared up at Julian and whispered tremulously, “Don’t you dare touch my son!”
Julian grinned devilishly, “Oh, but I will, gladly. He is nothing to me! Theo is my one and only heir, not your little bastard!” He said viciously, “Now, be a good girl and tell this bastard to back off!”
Serena felt all the fight leave her body at those words.
How could Julian do this?
No matter what, her son was still his. Did he hate her so much that he’d not even bat an eyelid at the talk of eliminating their son?!
She was trembling uncontrollably now, her head filled with images of an unknown little boy going through pain and suffering, his life slipping away from him…
No!
She turned slowly towards the gentleman, who was watching her with cold concern.
“Ma’am” he started.
“It’s okay,” Serena said quickly, willing her voice not to shake, “I…I just had a moment there. It’s nothing serious. I’ll be okay if I lie down.”
The man narrowed his eyes in disbelief, “What? Are you sure…”
“She is!” Julian uttered, his smile false as he pulled Serena closer into his arms. He raised his voice and turned to the crowd, “You heard that everybody?! She’s depressed and was just saying things without meaning. I’ll be taking my wife upstairs now to rest. Do excuse me.”
With those words, he started leading Serena away from the hall towards the doors, Camille and Evelyn tagging along.
Serena felt like a lamb being led to slaughter. Her hands gripped her skirts tightly, and her throat was tight with panic.
Help me! Anybody! Please!
No one heard her silent plea.
Just before the huge double doors closed behind her, she turned and caught sight of the gentleman with the storm gray eyes.
He was still watching her.
Silently. Calmly.
Her lifeline slipping away from her hand.
