Chapter 2 Equally Injured, the Husband Chose Her

The lawyer looked down at the divorce agreement in front of him, somewhat incredulous. "Mr. Taylor really signed it?"

Everyone in Harbor City knew how much Anthony cherished his wife. Forget about divorce - even saying something bad about her could bring his revenge.

Evelyn smiled bitterly. "His heart has long flown to someone else."

If only Anthony had taken one more look just now, he probably would have noticed the divorce agreement hidden under the property purchase contract.

The lawyer couldn't help but advise, "Ms. Wilson, won't you reconsider? Mr. Taylor loves you so much and has such good conditions - it would really be a shame to divorce."

Love?

Evelyn's mind wandered.

Maybe, after all, everything from before couldn't have been fake. But it was precisely because of his former devotion that made his current hypocrisy so unbearable to her.

"No need." Evelyn shook her head.

She stood up. "Please handle it as soon as possible."

The lawyer nodded.

Leaving the café, Evelyn went to the underground parking garage to get her car. Just as she reached her vehicle, she caught a glimpse of a familiar car - a black Rolls-Royce Phantom with a license plate of five 8s.

In all of Harbor City, it belonged only to Anthony.

And at this moment, the window was half-down, the car body slightly shaking, familiar figures overlapping together. Evelyn felt her stomach churn and quickly got into her own car.

Before long, Scarlett pushed the door open and got out, limping toward her.

As if deliberately, when she came to knock on the car window, her clothes weren't even properly on.

A men's shirt hung loosely on her body, revealing suggestive red marks.

Evelyn rolled down her window and met Scarlett's gaze.

"Ms. Wilson, you saw everything just now, didn't you?" Scarlett looked smug. "Everyone in Harbor City says how much Anthony loves you, but one phone call from me can pull him away from your birthday party. Seems like the rumors aren't that accurate."

Scarlett continued, complaining as she rubbed her lower back. "He really is something - says he'll be gentle, but every time he's so rough. Can't help it though. Anthony says you're like a piece of wood in bed, don't even know how to move. Only with me does he know what satisfaction means."

Evelyn looked at her with an indifferent expression, saying nothing.

Scarlett laughed wildly. "Ms. Wilson, are you angry? Don't get too worked up. When he comes back with the ointment, I'll punish him properly for you."

Evelyn finally spoke. "Ms. Miller, has anyone ever told you how stupid you are?"

Scarlett, not getting the reaction she wanted, changed her expression slightly. "What do you mean?"

"I mean, believing a man's sweet talk and thinking you're his true love is... both naive and stupid."

Evelyn spoke mockingly. "If he really loved you, he should take this chance to divorce me and marry you properly, not hold some grand birthday party and announce to reporters that I'm the only love of his life."

"If he loved you, he wouldn't have the windows open while having sex with you in the car, not caring at all if you might be photographed."

Dropping these words, Evelyn rolled up her window and drove away.

Behind her, Scarlett's face darkened, staring at Evelyn with crazy hatred in her eyes. "Evelyn, I'll show you today who the most important person in Anthony's heart really is!"

Evelyn had just driven out of the garage when she heard the roar of an engine behind her.

"Bang—"

Before she could react, a huge impact threw Evelyn violently forward.

Her vision went black as she lost consciousness.

But the severe pain in her left leg quickly brought Evelyn back from unconsciousness. She quickly checked her condition and found the car had flipped over, she was stuck in the driver's seat, glass shards had pierced her left leg, and blood was gushing out continuously.

"Help... help..."

Evelyn tried to call for help and noticed Anthony had somehow returned and was holding Scarlett as he stood up.

"Anthony, Anthony..." Evelyn called out loudly toward his departing figure as if seeing a savior. "Anthony, help me, help..."

But the man didn't even turn his head, just left carrying Scarlett.

As blood continued to flow, Evelyn's head began to spin, and the pungent smell of gasoline started filling her nose.

No, she had to save herself quickly!

Evelyn thought of her bag thrown on the passenger seat. She moved her body, reaching over and fumbling with difficulty, finally touching her phone stuck in a gap.

She excitedly dialed Anthony's number.

After a long wait, he finally answered. "Whatever it is, wait until I get back. I have an emergency right now."

Evelyn couldn't care about the impatience in his voice and hurriedly said, "Anthony, I've been in a car accident. The car door is jammed and I can't get out. Could you..."

"Evelyn, when did you start using these jealous tactics?"

Before she could finish, Anthony interrupted her directly. "Scarlett is injured. I need to get her to the hospital right now. I don't have time for your drama."

Anthony hung up immediately after speaking.

"No..."

Evelyn's heart went cold. Just then, with an explosion, the car caught fire.

Thick smoke poured into the car. Evelyn coughed violently from the choking. She desperately tried to pull her leg free, but apart from increasing pain, it was completely useless.

Her consciousness became fuzzy.

Her physical sensations seemed covered by a thin membrane - pain, surrounding sounds all seemed separated by a layer, vague and indistinct.

Before completely falling into darkness, Evelyn saw a pair of familiar eyes flash before her.

Who was it?

She wondered hazily as her consciousness faded into darkness.

...

When she opened her eyes again, Evelyn was already in the hospital.

She stared at the white ceiling, her consciousness floating in the air for a while before slowly returning to her body.

"You're awake?" A voice came from beside her.

Evelyn turned her head and met eyes with the doctor by her bed.

The doctor said, "Your injuries aren't too serious, just that the wound on your left leg was too deep and needed several stitches. Give me a family contact number - I need to register it."

Evelyn lowered her eyes and said flatly, "I don't have any family."

Her father had died of a heart attack years ago, leaving her mother living alone. If she knew about the injury and hospitalization, she would definitely worry, so better to keep it from her.

The doctor frowned. "What about your husband?"

"Don't have one either." Evelyn answered.

The divorce agreement was already signed. In thirty more days she would be separated from Anthony, so naturally she could say she had no husband.

The woman's casual words drifted out of the hospital room, immediately stopping Anthony in his tracks. A surge of anger rose in his heart. What did she mean she had no husband?

Was he dead?!
