Chapter 8 He Saves Others First
Evelyn had long gotten used to him not coming home at night. After breakfast, she went out to view apartments.
Since she'd decided to end things properly with Anthony, the first thing to do was move out of the home that no longer belonged to her.
As Mrs. Taylor, Evelyn had naturally received generous compensation from Anthony over the years.
She didn't want to give Anthony any chance to pester her, so she specifically asked someone to find her a complex with extremely tight security.
It happened to be near a private villa area.
"Ms. Wilson, although you're paying well and the price is good, your requirements are also very specific. I've checked the system several times for you, and this property best meets your needs. Plus, the security is national-level—you absolutely don't need to worry about your personal safety or financial security."
Evelyn followed the agent, looking around the complex.
The environment was beautiful. Though the location was somewhat remote, it had a peaceful quality, and transportation was convenient. It seemed like a decent choice.
"Ms. Wilson, if you're satisfied with this place, let's sign the contract. Don't worry, if there are any issues later, I can help you handle them."
Evelyn nodded and followed the agent to leave and sign the contract.
On the roadside, she spotted an extremely familiar car, especially the license plate hanging on the front.
"That car is...?"
Evelyn pointed in that direction. The agent naturally saw the car too.
Evelyn hesitated for a moment, then remembered the man who had saved her that night—his car seemed to be just like...
Evelyn was about to walk over, but the car drove away.
The agent behind her explained to Evelyn.
"That person... is the owner of that standalone villa, and he's the fourth son of the Brown family who just returned recently—Sebastian Brown."
Sebastian Brown.
No wonder Evelyn felt he looked somewhat familiar when they first met. So it was him.
That successful man who'd been trending on social media for days.
The agent continued gossiping: "I heard he's the Brown family's chosen heir, and he came back this time to take over the Brown family's business empire. Someone like that is way out of my league."
With such a prestigious status, no wonder he wasn't worried at all about how that car accident would affect him.
Evelyn recalled that chance encounter.
Because Anthony had stood her up on their planned outing yet again, Evelyn felt utterly miserable and decided to drive home alone.
Driving by herself with troubles on her mind, she got distracted for a moment and scraped another black car in the adjacent lane.
When she realized what happened, Evelyn immediately pulled over. From that car emerged only someone who seemed like a secretary.
Through the open car door, she could see the corner of a suit—there was someone else inside. Evelyn knew that person must have an extraordinary status.
The secretary walked over, and during the negotiation with Evelyn, his tone was quite friendly, lacking any harshness.
Later, as they passed by each other, Evelyn caught a glimpse of the man's face through the car window.
Evelyn kept this in mind, thinking she must find an opportunity to repay the favor.
Afterward, she signed the contract with the agent and then went to the office.
Standing below the company building.
Looking up, she saw the office tower reaching into the clouds—the place where dreams once began.
Everything here was once the foundation they built step by step with their sweat and hard work.
But now, that man whose heart had long changed had probably forgotten all of this.
Evelyn entered the company, feeling that everything had changed. After greeting the receptionist, she went to HR, originally planning to submit her resignation directly, but was told that HR was on a business trip and not in the office today.
Evelyn had to turn back to her workstation first to pack up her personal belongings. But unexpectedly, just as she was about to leave, she ran into Scarlett at the corner.
Scarlett's open collar bore some ambiguous marks. She looked as if she'd been interrupted from something.
"Evelyn."
Scarlett seemed startled, but her hands kept fiddling with her hair, as if deliberately exposing that skin covered with deep ambiguous marks.
"What do you want?" Evelyn ignored the red mark on her shoulder.
"Nothing, just..." Scarlett tugged at her collar in a way that drew more attention. "I don't know if you saw the message I sent you last night. Anthony and I are now... Aunt May really likes me too. If I were you, I wouldn't be so shameless as to keep holding onto things I shouldn't have."
"Shameless? Shouldn't have? Though I don't plan to keep these things, right now I'm still Anthony's wife. As long as I'm here, you'll always be nothing but a mistress who can't be seen in public." Evelyn found this person's words truly disgusting.
She still couldn't figure out what position Scarlett actually held now.
"You... the one who isn't loved is the mistress. Do you really think you still have any place in his heart? He only acknowledged the marriage with you because he didn't want the company to suffer any more damage. Evelyn, Evelyn, people should have self-awareness."
"I'll give those words right back to you."
Evelyn didn't want to get further entangled with Scarlett and turned to leave, but Scarlett grabbed her arm.
"I'm not finished talking. Did I say you could leave?"
Scarlett was about to make more trouble, but from the corner of her eye, she spotted a man walking over.
Just as Evelyn struggled forcefully, Scarlett went with Evelyn's momentum and pretended to fall toward the ground nearby.
But in that instant, Anthony from not far away rushed over regardless of everything, forcefully pushed Evelyn aside, and caught Scarlett in his arms.
Due to the momentum, Evelyn was pushed hard toward the glass wall behind her.
The huge impact caused the already unstable glass wall to completely collapse.
Glass shards fell on Evelyn's wrist, cutting a large gash.
Anthony was about to scold her, but seeing Evelyn injured so seriously, he quickly reached out to help her up. However, Scarlett's cry came from behind him.
"Anthony, my leg hurts so much. I didn't sprain it, did I? Anthony, I have a meeting later. What if I really can't move?"
A flash of sympathy crossed Anthony's eyes, but he quickly turned back to check Scarlett's leg.
"It's okay, just a minor sprain. I'll help you to the office to rest for a bit."
Anthony reached out and helped Scarlett up. Then Scarlett curled up in his arms, but asked timidly.
"What about Evelyn? Evelyn looks more seriously hurt."
