Chapter 3
Mia obediently stood up. Carter guided the Pack Doctor to Nora’s side.
The Pack Doctor pressed his stethoscope to Nora’s chest. After a long moment, his eyes widened in shock.
"This is strange. Why is her heartbeat so weak... it’s almost gone?"
Nora’s face went paper-white.
After I learned Nora existed, I’d secretly gone to Carter’s basement.
That was when I found out Nora was my clone.
She was almost the same as me, with the same appearance, the same blood, and even the same organs.
But something as precise as a heart wasn’t something their current technology could truly replicate.
Nora had been too confident in her own body. She didn’t expect to be exposed this fast.
But Carter seemed to think of something and asked the Pack Doctor,
"Is it viral hepatitis?"
Nora might be my clone, but she was far smarter than me. Tears instantly welled up in her eyes as she said,
"It has to be viral hepatitis. When I was sick before, I felt just like this, so miserable. Carter, just buy me the medicine like last time. That’s enough."
Under the dim light, I couldn’t see Carter’s expression clearly. I only heard his flat reply:
"Then do it the way Rory says."
But Nora’s cleverness backfired.
My health had always been poor. Big illnesses, small illnesses, one after another.
Most of the time, I endured it in silence and said nothing at all.
After the Pack Doctor left, Mia comforted “me” for a bit and then left, too.
Nora hooked her arm around Carter’s and tugged him toward the bed. Carter went along with it.
A smile quickly spread across Nora’s face. She tried to burrow into Carter’s arms.
The second Carter moved to hold her, I panicked.
I flew to his side and screamed,
"Carter! She’s not Rory! She’s the clone you made!"
But Carter couldn’t hear me. He didn’t even resist Nora’s touch.
I knew he didn’t love me much. I’d never taken the initiative to get close to him either.
Still... watching my clone press my face against his body, skin to skin. How could my heart not hurt at all?
I heard Carter let out a low laugh. "You never tell me anything when you’re sick. Why did you speak up today? But good job. Worth praising."
It sounded like praise and also like a test.
I thought he had finally discovered the differences between Nora and me.
It was just that Nora was smart, "we’re mates. Of course, I’m willing to tell you anything."
As if to make up for my stupidity, Carter maxed out Nora's IQ.
I pouted, furious at his bias, my eyes burning red with unshed tears.
Staring at Carter’s always-calm face, I suddenly felt like I didn’t know him at all.
Had he already sensed something was off about Nora?
Or did he truly just dislike the way I used to be?
"Mm." Carter closed his eyes, then added, "I just don’t know how Nora is doing these days."
I was so angry that I stomped my feet. He was indeed missing Nora. She was smarter.
He had long been dissatisfied with the mate arranged for him by the Moon Goddess.
Something strange flashed through Nora’s eyes, but she forced herself to stay calm. She put on an obviously jealous expression and said,
"Carter, didn’t you say you only loved me? Nora got rejected, she probably wouldn’t dare show her face again."
Carter lifted his hand, stroking Nora’s cheek then slowly down to her neck.
Nora thought Carter had finally come around that they were finally going to have sex.
Her cheeks turned bright red.
But Carter’s tone shifted. "If I remember correctly, what I said was: No. Rory is my only Luna."
Nora froze. Her mouth opened, but no words came out.
Things always went up and down. I was so stupid that I couldn't understand Carter's hints. I floated to the corner and stood alone, staring blankly at it.
The next morning, Carter went out. Only then did Nora openly call Ann over.
She had nowhere to vent her rage. Ann listened to her filthy curses and then offered a nasty idea:
"You hate Rory so much that even killing her didn’t clear it from your heart... so why not take revenge on her sister?"
