Chapter 5 Top Ten

Starting with number 10, we have the Primates, whose job mainly is to oversee guarding the perimeters of the family house and ensuring everyone's safety, by keeping threats out.

9, we have the Assistants, they manage day to day activities of the family, making sure we don't run into any difficulties.

8, we have the Bonds, they handle our money flow, like payments and transactions to avoid issues.

7, We have the Beauties, they're only made up of women, who are born into the art of seduction. Most times they're important for missions where we need to infiltrate a man's domain, or secure a client.

6, we have the Bearer, these sets of people are like our armory, they carry extra ammunition for us, so that way we never run out of weapons during a fight."

Not bad. I nodded thoughtfully.

5, we have the Thorns, they're like what you call, messengers of death, their main task is to kill anyone the boss says they should, whether it's a job or for revenge sake, they'll kill in the name of the family.

4, we have the Doves, they're the family's doctors, they're trained and used in battle in case any of our comrades is injured, they're like emergency first aid, just like everyone here, they also train to stay alive and keep everyone alive.

A slight frown creased my brow. Interesting.

Now the top 3 are our most important, starting with the Informants. These sets of people don't actually stay in the family with us, they're scattered in every law enforcement agency you know, be it the police, the military, anywhere of importance, even the white house. They work as maids or cooks, undercover agents or just delivery men, they're everywhere, they're the reason why we're never caught off guard, their main job is to feed us with important informations.

Shit.

No wonder he knew so quickly that there was a mole in his house. For this particular mission, we'd exempted almost everyone from the team, only three people knew about my infiltration, so I'm guessing whoever their informant was he was exempted, that's why the person didn't know who exactly was sent in.

A cold sweat broke out on my skin.

If Miguel hadn't sacrificed himself I most definitely would have been caught.

"At 2 we have the Decoys, these set of people act like their names, they provide, distractions or diversion, and protect the boss or anyone important by luring the enemy away from them and acting as a decoy, they're very important in the sense that, they give their life to the cause.

Fear crawled over my body. Was he fucking serious?

"And 1, we have the Nobels.

Nicole, Finley, Bruce are examples of Nobels you've seen, they're like law enforcers, they maintain the balance, when a mole is caught, they're the ones responsible for getting information out of the person, through torture. They're the people whom you'd expect to be the first to charge towards danger and come out unscathed, they're the best of the best, skilled in everything from close combat to the use of guns and knives” his face glowed with pride. “Nicole and Finley are actually cousins"

"Cousins?"

"Don't be too surprised," marshal said, smiling.

“The guy who brought you here the first time, Marco, he's actually a mix of both, he's a decoy and a Nobel, personally he's the boss's decoy alone" he added.

I stared in awe.

Finally, this was why they had never been caught for years. I've come to a realization that these people didn't survive and evade the law just because they were the mafia, they did because they were geniuses. They were smart. Like foxes.

They followed a code and lived by it.

Breathe it. Worshiped it.

Such loyalty, there was no way the law would have caught up to them even in a thousand years.

I stared at Nicole and Finley laughing at the bruise on his head.

No wonder I couldn't move, watching them fight was like watching two gladiators face off.

Shit.

Here I was admiring the enemy instead of finding a way to contact my team and let them know.

I had to let them know, there was no way we were going to beat them using the law.

It was high time we played dirty too.

........

“Put your flexibility into use, trust me. It's your greatest strength against an opponent who's stronger than you physically” Nicole said.

“Yes ma”

“Alright, let's go again” she continued.

“Left, Right, duck, slam and that's it, you're doing good” she said smiling.

“Take a break, we'll continue later”

I smiled and went to the corner to sit down, it's been a week already since I infiltrated the Bone Cartel and yet, I haven't been able to contact my team.

I guess the whole no family thing saved me a lot of stress but still made it so I didn't have anyone I could pretend to call.

I saw Marco walk up towards me with his usual expressionless face.

“You look handsome as usual Marco” I mused.

His expression soured further, clearly unamused.

“Mr Callahan wants to see you”

I frowned, confused. “What for?”

He didn't reply. He simply turned back, walking away from me.

I sighed.

But I stood up and followed him anyway.

We walked for a few minutes and into a room that looked like an office and the door was shut behind me.

Ronan sat perched on a chair with the same glasses on his nose as he looked through some papers.

I stood awkwardly.

“Are you waiting for an invitation to sit down, Fenton?”

Embarrassment flooded over me. As I quickly took my seat.

“You asked for me”

“I did”

Silence.

“How's your training been going?”

He asked. “Marshal said you're learning fast”

“It's going fine sir, everyone's accommodating enough and I'm grateful for that” I replied politely.

He simply smiled. “I see”

Silence ensued again.

“And you do not need anything I presume” he said.

This was my chance.

“Uhh….I was kinda hoping I could do some shopping, I don't really have much to wear”

“I'll have Marco take you”

No way in bloody hell.

“I mean, it's a girls thing, I was hoping I could go with a lady” I said, feigning the most delicate blush I could.

This time he stopped what he was doing and stared at me, eyebrows raised.

“Marco is supposed to be with you mainly for protection” he said.

“Well….. aside from that I don't feel very comfortable with him” I paused. “Can Nicole and Finley come instead?” I asked.

“Hmm…” he mused thoughtfully. “Fine then, you have 3 hours to get everything you need” he stared at his watch. “Be back by 3”

A smile threatened to break out but I controlled it.

“Thank you sir, can I go?”

“Yes” he said, putting on his glasses as I walked out.

Nicole and Finley wouldn't disentangle from themselves for even a second. After spending days with them I finally stopped frowning at the thought of cousins dating.

Fifteen minutes after a good shower and change of clothes, we were preparing to leave.

I sighed, Finally.
