Chapter 2 Chapter 2

Tyler raised an eyebrow. “Leaving? To where?” He asked me, quite irritated.

“Somewhere away from here.” I answered with a blank expression.

He raised an eyebrow, as he blew smoke into the air. And as the smoke spread through the air, he got up and walked towards me.

He then stopped in front of me. “I know how much you love attention, but this silly prank won't work.”

My head jerked to the side, avoiding the smoke that stung my nostrils, as I struggled to reply, “I'm not joking.”

He then took a huge puff, and blew the smoke right into my face, “You're such a clown.

Immediately, I felt my airways constrict, wheezing, as I began to gasp for breath.

Tyler's jaw clenched, watching as I kept struggling to breathe. “Can you ever stop being so dramatic?” He hissed, his voice sharp and venomous.

His eyes remained locked onto mine, his gaze piercing and cold. The corners of his mouth curled downward, and his nostrils flared slightly, as if scenting something distasteful as he said, “I know you desperately need the attention, but those days are over.”

Hannah chuckled excitedly, her eyes intently staring at Tyler and I, watching as Tyler paid no attention to how I was feeling in that low moment.

From my little knowledge of sign language, I tried to sign that I needed help, but they both didn't care. They thought I was only pulling a silly stunt for attention, not knowing I was fighting for my life.

He took another puff of smoke and blew it into the air, leaving me almost unable to hold on to my dear life.

“Plea…se… Help…” I pleaded, my sentences breaking as my airways kept constricting.

My panicked gaze scanned the room, desperately in search of my inhaler, but it was nowhere in sight. I stumbled out of the living room and into one of the bedrooms downstairs, yanking open the drawer dresser in search of my inhaler, but still it wasn't there.

Yet again, I stumbled back into the living room, my legs now trembling beneath me.

I tumbled toward the console table, rummaging frantically through each drawer, but they were all empty. A cold shiver rushed through my spine as I realized I was out of options.

The more I ran around in search of it, the weaker I kept getting.

All of a sudden, Tyler's hand grabbed my arm firmly, spinning me around.

“What the hell do you think you're doing? Enough with these silly shenanigans already!” He thundered angrily.

“You're beginning to really piss me off!” He spat.

I couldn't explain, I just kept wheezing, clutching my chest, yet he kept staring at me, his eyebrows furrowed.

Hearing the commotion in the living room, one of the maids ran in. Seeing what was going on, she immediately knew what had happened.

“Ma, where is it? Where did you keep it? Is it upstairs?” She kept asking, but I couldn't even answer because I didn't know where I had kept it.

“What the hell are you looking for?” Tyler asked angrily.

“Her inhaler, sir.” The maid answered and at that moment, he looked more than confused.

“Inhaler for what?” He asked and even the maid was too stunned to speak.

“Wait… oh my goodness!” He exclaimed as he finally remembered.

This was someone who I had been married to for seven years of my life, yet he couldn't remember that his wife is asthmatic.

At that moment, I crashed to the ground. I had exhausted every strength within me and couldn't hold on anymore.

Usually, I always had my inhaler with me, but because I hadn't had any attacks in recent times, I had packed it up somewhere. Also the fact that I packed all my bags out of the main bedroom contributed to me not remembering where exactly it was.

Right when I thought I was going to die, another maid rushed in with a spare inhaler which she found locked away somewhere.

Tyler quickly grabbed the inhaler from her, shaking it slightly as he primed it. But as he was about to press the canister, we suddenly heard a loud scream of pain from the table, followed by the sound of a utensil, as it dropped to the ground.

It was none else, but Hannah.

Hearing her scream, Tyler immediately dropped my inhaler and rushed to Hannah, who now had blood trickling from her wrist to her clothes and the floor.

Seeing that Tyler was giving me attention, she had slit her own wrist with a sharp knife, but she mistakenly cut too deep and the blood kept pouring out.

The maid quickly picked the inhaler from the floor and pressed the canister. I inhaled deeply, feeling the medication rush into my lungs, but the tightness in my chest didn't ease, instead my wheezing continued.

“It's not working!” The maid screamed nervously, her eyes welling up with tears.

“Get the car keys!” Tyler yelled, cupping Hannah in his arms like a newborn, while I remained on the floor, helpless.

Thankfully, the maids were also able to get me into another car, and off to the hospital we went.

“Mr Richardson, indeed your wife is a universal donor, but we can't take blood from her right now.” The doctor explained to Tyler.

Getting upset, Tyler asked, “Why not?”

“As you know, she just suffered from an asthmatic attack and is still trying to recuperate,” the doctor explained carefully, his eyes flicking to my fragile form on the hospital bed.

“All she needs right now is rest, nothing else. Any further stress could trigger another attack.” He added, carefully.

Tyler's expression, however, seemed unyielding.

“Is that what she told you to tell me? She wants Hannah to die, isn't it?” He asked, his face twisted in a frown.

Taken aback, the doctor replied, “What?! No.”

“Then get to work! You said it yourself, the hospital doesn't have Hannah's blood type at the moment. The only option here is Claire since she is a perfect match!” Tyler snapped.

“Yes, she is a match but we need to put her health into consideration too. It won't be possible if something goes wrong.” The doctor tried to make Tyler reason with him.

“Hannah and my unborn child’s lives are at stake here. They are a priority. If anything happens to them, you'll lose everything you've ever worked for.” He threatened, angrily.

“But sir, you need to understand that—”

Tyler's eyes narrowed, his gaze piercing as he leaned in closer to the doctor. “You'll do exactly as I say, or you'll face the consequences.” He growled, his voice low and menacing.

The doctor swallowed hard, his eyes darting nervously around the room, watching as Tyler stormed out.

As soon as he left, I opened my eyes.
