Chapter 4 Drawing Your name on the floor
Later that evening, Mara sat cross-legged on her bed, scrolling through her phone. The glow of the screen lit her face as she hesitated before sending a text. Her fingers hovered over the keyboard for a moment before she finally pressed send to Damon.
“Movie tonight? Bring Matthew?”
A few minutes later, her phone buzzed with a reply:
“Sounds good. I’ll pick him up. See you in an hour?”
Mara smiled softly, feeling a warm flutter in her chest. She threw on a hoodie and some jeans, grabbing her bag as she headed out the door.
Back Home: A really important Conversation and the unexpected kiss is coming.
Later, Mara and Damon stood in her backyard, the night air cool against their skin. Matthew had been put to bed, and the stars winked overhead.
“I guess I didn’t expect tonight to turn out like this,” Mara admitted softly.
Damon’s gaze was steady. “Neither did I. But I’m glad it did.”
He stepped closer, hesitating only for a moment before cupping her face gently. Mara’s breath hitched as he leaned in, capturing her lips in a kiss that was both tender and full of promise. It wasn’t rushed; it was a moment of shared vulnerability, a silent acknowledgment of the feelings stirring beneath the surface.
When they finally parted, Mara looked up at him, her heart pounding.
“Damon,” she whispered, voice trembling slightly. “I… I didn’t think I’d feel this way.”
He brushed a thumb over her cheek, his expression soft. “Me neither. But maybe we’re both tired of hiding.”
She smiled, leaning into his touch. “Maybe we are.”
In that quiet night, under the vast sky, Mara felt a new chapter beginning—one where she finally believed in herself, and perhaps, in love too.
"But Damon, until I feel secure about us, is just better to keep it on secret. Specially because you know, your friends. I don´t want them to be upset because us"
"Don´t worry what happens between us, only will be between us. I promise. No one is going to know if you don´t want your friends know Mara"
"In that way I just can rest on your shoulders and know everything will be fine"
Damon nodded softly, his eyes locking onto hers with a reassuring warmth. “I get it, Mara. We’ll take it slow. No pressure, no rush. Just us, figuring things out.”
She hesitated for a moment, then squeezed his hand gently. “Thanks, Damon. For understanding. It means everything to me.”
He stepped closer again, his voice low but sincere. “You don’t have to carry this alone. I’m here—every step of the way.”
Mara felt a mixture of relief and hope swelling inside her. She reached out, intertwining her fingers with his, feeling the steady beat of his heart beneath her fingertips.
The stars shimmered above, silent witnesses to a new beginning. With a quiet breath, Mara leaned her head against his shoulder, allowing herself to finally relax into the moment, trusting that whatever came next, they would face it together.
As the night deepened around them, the world faded away, leaving only the quiet promise of what could be—hidden, yet real, under the vast, forgiving sky.
Meanwhile, across town, Mia was at a lively outdoor event, the music pulsing through the air. She was laughing with friends when suddenly, a tall, handsome Black man stepped onto the dance floor. His presence was magnetic—confident, with smooth moves that made everyone turn and watch. Without hesitation, he extended a hand toward Mia, a playful smile on his face.
“May I have this dance?” he asked, his voice deep and warm.
Mia grinned and took his hand. “Absolutely.”
They moved together effortlessly, the world around them melting away as he spun her under the stars, his hands guiding her with an easy grace. His eyes sparkled as he looked into hers, and for a moment, everything else faded.
The beat shifted, and he twirled her again, their laughter blending with the music. Their bodies moved in perfect harmony, a dance of connection and joy.
Suddenly, a familiar voice broke through the rhythm. Mia’s best friend, Mara, was approaching with a bright smile.
“Hey! Hello, Mia!”
Mia spun around and laughed. “Hey, Mara! Come join us!”
Mara hesitated for a second, then stepped closer, her eyes shining with curiosity. The music shifted into a lively, upbeat song—The Black Eyed Peas’ “Pump It” started to thump through the speakers, adding an energetic vibe to the scene.
Mara grinned and nodded. “This song’s my jam. Mind if I cut in?”
The handsome man chuckled and nodded. “Of course. Let’s make it a party.”
Mia watched as Mara took her place beside her dance partner, both of them laughing and moving to the infectious beat. The night felt alive with possibility, friendship, and the thrill of new connections.
As the music blared on, Mara caught Mia’s eye and gave her a playful wink. The stars above twinkled brighter, and in that moment, everything seemed to shimmer with potential—love, friendship, and the magic of unexpected moments.
