Chapter 5 The Man Who Disappeared After My First Night
Olivia Hart
Ever since I sold my virginity to an unknown man... I’ve been living inside this house like a corpse after Alexander crushed my heart and rejected me.
“Water the flowers, burden!” my stepmother screamed from downstairs.
Nothing but my father’s wife’s irritating voice repeating the same complaints every morning because I wake up late. Sometimes it feels like I’m a servant here.
I obeyed her filthy orders, avoiding any problems that might happen. I dragged myself out of bed, forced breakfast down my throat so I wouldn’t starve, then returned to my room until darkness fell over my head again.
After hours of endless night, the loud ringing of my phone woke me up.
“Evelyn, for God’s sake...”
Answered the call right away, barely able to speak properly.
“This early in the morning, what’s going on with you, Evelyn?”
Her laughter pulled a real smile from my lips.
“I’m coming to you with a golden opportunity in my hands!”
“I didn’t understand you well... what golden opportunity?” I asked curiously.
Maybe I was still sleepy... no. A small laugh slipped out at the way I sounded, like I was drugged.
“I’m close to your house. Two minutes away.”
A deep sigh left me as I prepared to get up and head to the bathroom.
“Fine. I’ll wait.”
I am ending the call, and went to the bathroom intending to take a quick shower, my thoughts refusing to leave whatever Evelyn had been talking about.
“Olivia, are you in the bathroom?”
My ears caught my friend’s voice behind the door, and I answered right away.
“Good morning, beautiful.”
Evelyn smile was enough to brighten my mood.
“Morning. What’s this golden opportunity?”
I moved aside so she could enter, then locked the door in case that witch, my father’s wife decided to barge in.
“A modeling job, Olivia! God, you’re so stupid!”
My eyes widened in shock, followed by a startled gasp. “How? Where?”
Evelyn continued excitedly, “I told you this opportunity is once in a lifetime. The perfume company, Blue Pearl, from the Kane empire.”
My eyelids twitched as I tried remembering whether I’d heard the name before or not... nothing.
The towel slipped from my hand and fell to the floor without me noticing. Out of everything she said, only the surname Kane stayed in my head.
“Why are you this shocked? Breathe!”
“Is Alexander related to that family somehow?”
Bent down to pick up the towel, pretending calmness while everything inside me tangled violently. My heart was beating like crazy.
She held my hand after noticing how tense it had become on my lap. “They don’t share the same bloodline, but similar last names happen in a lot of families.”
Her hand rubbed the back of mine gently as she tried to reassure me. “You won’t even meet the owner of the company. You’ll do your job and get paid.”
“You’re right.”
Looked into her honey-colored eyes before smiling wide enough for the smile to reach my heart instead of my lips.
My friend let out a relieved breath, trying to calm herself as she wiped her forehead.
“Think about it, Olivia. This is a really important job. You can’t lose it.”
She grabbed my arm, trying to convince my confused mind that kept swinging between yes and no.
“You have the body and the angelic face for it.”
I answered her compliment with a smile before rejecting the idea completely. I truly didn’t want it.
“I’m in a bad mood.”
The moment disappointment crossed her face, guilt mixed with my expression.
“Can you leave so I can finish changing?”
Her eyes traveled from my feet to my head, clearly annoyed.
“Of course.”
She didn’t forget to grab her bag from the mirror shelf while muttering under her breath.
She knew how unstable things were between me and my father. He wouldn’t hesitate to throw me out at any moment after threatening me with it more than once.
Walked over to Evelyn, who was waiting for me.
“Let’s go to that company you told me about!”
She released my arm before exclaiming with excited disbelief,
“Really? You agreed?”
She stepped in front of me, stopping me from walking. “Tell me you’re serious, please!”
The shine in her honey eyes made my lips curve into a smile.
“Yes. I’ll try my luck.”
Less than an hour later, we were inside the company. My gaze got lost among the endless number of women and their beauty.
“Shet, look at all these girls. Every single one makes you forget the face before her. I don’t think I’ll make it.”
Evelyn looked at me with complete confidence. “Believe in yourself. You’re not less beautiful than them.”
“I just hope luck stays on my side... so I can prove to that bastard Alexander who Olivia Hart really is. Maybe then he’ll stop thinking I’m a burden to people like him.”
I left Evelyn and headed toward the office for the interview—or more accurately, the photoshoot session.
“Come in, miss.”
Walked toward him.
“Take off the coat,” the photographer said.
I hesitated. The tight dress underneath revealed more than it hid, but then I remembered Alexander’s mocking look, as if I were nothing.
Took off the coat and felt the camera’s gaze devouring my body.
He kept taking pictures of every part of me until he suddenly crouched lower to photograph my exposed thighs.
“I hope you’re not going to ask me to take the dress off too.”
After I finished, I went back to where Evelyn was sitting.
Our attention was suddenly stolen by one of the company employees running toward the receptionist with wide terrified eyes.
I looked at Evelyn in confusion. “Why is she running around terrified like she saw a ghost?”
Their loud conversation reached my ears, the employee’s trembling voice exposing her panic over the owner’s unexpected arrival.
“Mr. Dominic is here!”
“Their boss, Dominic Kane, is one of those strict CEOs... but he reaches the level of savage.”
She pulled me away from where we stood, ignoring what I’d said. “Olivia, let’s move. I think we’re blocking the way!”
Tilted my head before we headed toward the glass doors.
We were just about to step into the sunlight when a rough hand shoved me back violently. Almost fell on my ass if I hadn’t grabbed the barrier beside me.
“You! Bastard!”
Glared at the security guard, my eyes throwing flames at him.
“What right do you have to touch me? How dare you push me?”
His terrifying glare only made me more furious.
“Didn’t you notice the company Ceo is about to enter? Move away from here. I don’t want trouble.”
Didn’t even hear the rest of his nonsense. All I could think about was the filthy way he shoved me just because the precious president was about to walk into his company.
“Are you insane? How dare you push me like that?”
Evelyn’s nails dug into my wrist, unable to stop me or even speak.
“Haven’t you learned how to respect women yet?!”
My scream echoed through all company, making everyone turn their chaotic gazes toward me.
The guard stepped away after noticing the shadow of a man behind me. At that exact moment, everyone returned to work like programmed machines.
“What’s going on here?”
The second that rough huskiness and arrogant tone reached my ears.
“Where have I heard that voice before?”
My eyes widened in shock.
No... impossible!
It couldn’t be him.
The man who disappeared after my first night.
