Introduction
I used to believe that too.
Then I found out I was pregnant with Ryan’s child—
and that’s when my adopted sister told me she was pregnant with his child as well.
So I chose revenge.
I emptied his accounts, staged the perfect accident, and planned my own “death.”
On the day I “died,” Ryan completely broke down, clutching my urn like it was the only thing keeping him alive.
While he sobbed his heart out in front of my photo, I was already holding another man’s hand—the man who never let go of me when I was at my lowest—
and walking toward the brand‑new life that truly belonged to me.
Chapter 1
"I'm pregnant with Ryan's baby, Evelyn. You're not upset, are you?"
The word baby echoed in Evelyn Moore's ears like a swarm of angry wasps. She stood frozen in the sterile hospital corridor, her heart seized by an invisible fist as her foster sister Hannah's saccharine voice dripped through the phone.
The fluorescent lights overhead cast a harsh, clinical glow on the paper trembling in her hand.
Pregnancy confirmed. 6 weeks.
Her baby. Hers and her husband Ryan Scott's.
"Evelyn? Are you there?" Hannah's tone was all faux innocence laced with unmistakable triumph. "Ryan's been so sweet—he cleared his entire schedule just to come to my ultrasound appointment."
The rest of Hannah's words dissolved into white noise.
All Evelyn could hear was the shrill ringing in her ears and the dull ache of her heart being shredded piece by piece. Her vision blurred. The overwhelming smell of antiseptic made her stomach turn.
Her mind drifted back to a month ago—their wedding anniversary.
Ryan had come home late that night, carrying the faint scent of white peach blossoms on his clothes.
Before she could ask where he'd been, he'd pulled her into a passionate kiss.
Lost in the heat of the moment, she'd wrapped her arms around his neck and whispered against his ear, "Ryan... let's have a baby."
Something flickered in his eyes—so brief she'd almost missed it. Then he kissed her forehead with devastating tenderness. "Evelyn, having you is more than enough for me. Pregnancy takes such a toll on your body, and you already sacrificed your health helping me build the company these past few years. I can't bear to see you suffer anymore. Can't we just be happy together, just the two of us, for the rest of our lives?"
In that moment, her heart had overflowed with love—and guilt for even bringing it up.
Everyone in her life—her parents, her friends, her business partners, even the company employees—said Ryan loved her more than life itself.
And she'd believed it. God, how she'd believed it.
In three years of marriage, he'd memorized every little thing about her. He'd drive across the city and wait in line for two hours just to buy her favorite cake from that one bakery, simply because she'd mentioned once that they tasted best fresh from the oven.
She was afraid of the dark, so he'd personally designed their home to ensure every corner had soft ambient lighting.
When she was sick, he'd drop million-dollar deals mid-meeting without hesitation and rush home to take care of her.
He'd made her feel like the most cherished woman in the world, and he'd claimed that making her happy was his greatest achievement.
But that fairy tale had shattered the very next day.
She'd baked his favorite tiramisu from scratch, planning to surprise him at the office.
Instead, she'd gotten the surprise of her life.
Outside his office door, she'd witnessed a scene that would haunt her forever.
Hannah—her foster sister—sat straddling Ryan's lap, blouse half-unbuttoned, arms draped around his neck as they kissed hungrily.
Hannah had pulled back, breathless and grinning. "Ryan... what do you think Evelyn would do if she found out her precious little sister has been warming your bed all this time?"
Ryan's face had gone cold. He'd shoved Hannah away roughly, straightening his rumpled shirt with sharp, angry movements. His voice carried a dangerous edge. "Hannah, I'm telling you for the last time—don't you dare say a word to Evelyn. If she finds out even a fraction of this, you know damn well what will happen to you."
For just a moment, Hannah's face had twisted with something ugly—pure, venomous hatred. But it vanished as quickly as it appeared, replaced by that sickeningly sweet mask. She'd pressed herself against his arm, pouting. "Okay, okay. I won't fight Evelyn for you. As long as I can stay by your side, I'm happy."
Evelyn's hands had trembled so violently she'd nearly dropped the dessert box. She'd bitten down on her lip hard enough to taste blood, each breath searing her lungs.
In that moment, she'd felt like the world's biggest fool.
Seven years. She'd spent seven years building his dream from nothing, working herself to exhaustion to help him turn a startup into a company worth hundreds of millions.
And he'd repaid her by screwing her foster sister in the office they'd built together.
She hadn't stormed in to confront them. She hadn't shed a single tear.
She'd simply thrown the carefully crafted tiramisu into the nearest trash can and walked away in silence.
The next day, she'd gone to work as usual. She'd even managed to smile at Ryan like nothing had changed.
The only difference was that when he'd tried to initiate intimacy, she'd gently pushed him away, claiming exhaustion.
Ryan had assumed she was just buried in work again. He'd ruffled her hair with that same indulgent fondness and hadn't pressed the issue.
After that, she'd started digging.
Using every resource at her disposal, she'd confirmed that Ryan and Hannah's affair had been going on for at least six months.
She'd stared at the hotel receipts, the flirty text messages, the damning evidence—and felt something inside her die. But something else had been born in its place. Something cold. Something unbreakable.
A week later, distracted and hollow, she'd been clipped by a car running a yellow light while crossing the street. The injury wasn't serious—just a fractured shin and some bruising—but the shock required hospitalization for observation.
Ryan had rushed to the hospital, his face drained of color. He'd stayed by her bedside for three days straight without sleeping.
By the third day, he'd lost weight, dark circles carved beneath bloodshot eyes.
Even the nurses had cooed over him. "Ms. Moore, your husband treats you like absolute royalty."
But on the afternoon of day three, her mother had called.
Hannah had fallen down the stairs at home and sprained her ankle.
Her mother's voice had dripped with reproach. "Evelyn, your sister is hurt. Why haven't you come to see her?"
The irony was suffocating. Evelyn was their biological daughter, yet they hadn't visited her once during her hospital stay.
But Hannah gets a twisted ankle, and suddenly Evelyn's expected to drop everything.
Less than ten minutes after the call ended, Ryan's phone had buzzed.
He'd checked the screen, his brow furrowing. When he looked at her, his eyes were full of apology—and something else. Something guilty.
"Evelyn, there's an emergency at the office. I have to go handle it right away. I'll send a nurse to look after you, and I'll be back soon. Okay?"
She'd caught the flash of deception in his eyes.
She knew it wasn't a work emergency. It was Hannah's pathetic ploy. And Ryan had chosen to go to her.
Evelyn had watched him leave without a word, her face an emotionless mask.
After a long silence, she'd picked up her phone and placed an overseas call.
"Alan. It's Evelyn."
"I need your help. I know your family's business includes maritime shipping. I need you to arrange an accident at sea. Three months from now."
Alan was her former mentor from university. He didn't ask why. He simply said, "Are you sure about this? Once it's done, Evelyn Moore will cease to exist."
Her voice was steel. "I'm sure."
She would disappear from Ryan's world completely. But first, she'd spend these three months taking back everything that belonged to her.
And then she'd make sure everyone who'd betrayed her paid the price—in full.

The Human Among Wolves
My stomach twisted, but he wasn’t finished.
"You're just a pathetic little human," Zayn said, his words deliberate, each one hitting like a slap. "Spreading your legs for the first guy who bothers to notice you."
Heat rushed to my face, burning with humiliation. My chest ached — not from his words alone, but from the sick realization that I had trusted him. That I had let myself believe he was different.
I was so, so stupid.

When his calls bombarded my phone later that night, it wasn't me who answered, but my new boyfriend Julian.
"Don't you know," Julian chuckled into the receiver, "that a proper ex-boyfriend should be as quiet as the dead?"
George seethed through gritted teeth: "Put her on the phone!"
"I'm afraid that's impossible."
Julian dropped a gentle kiss on my sleeping form nestled against him. "She's exhausted. She just fell asleep."

I fell. My head cracked against the corner.
Warmth trickled down my neck. Blood.
