Chapter 2 He Thinks She Will Turn Back
Late at night, Arthur and Sloane came back.
Sloane followed Arthur quietly, not saying a word.
Originally Jennifer could have slept with her tonight, but because Beatrice was there, she didn't come over.
Arthur also said that if they stayed out tonight, Beatrice would definitely want to join them tomorrow.
So she had to agree to come back.
She kept rubbing her fingers, a bit worried: "Dad, what if Mom insists on going out with us tomorrow?"
"She won't." Arthur said with certainty.
After years of marriage, although Beatrice always tried every way to spend more time with him, she still had some self-awareness and wouldn't do things that made him unhappy.
"Since Dad says she won't, then she definitely won't. Mom always listens to Dad."
Arthur didn't respond, but deep down he agreed - all these years Beatrice had always followed his every word.
Sloane broke into a smile and skipped upstairs: "In that case, I'll let Mom give me a bath tonight. It's been so long since Mom bathed me."
Over the years, Sloane had gotten used to Beatrice bathing her every night. After being in the hospital for a week, Sloane was still getting used to it.
Zanna beside them quietly reminded, "Mrs. Capulet isn't home."
Arthur frowned. How unusual - at this hour Beatrice wasn't home. This was the first time in all these years.
"Mrs. Capulet packed up and left at noon. It seems she went back to Regal City. You didn't know?"
Arthur paused for a moment, then nodded.
He had actually wanted to make it up to her, since she got pneumonia and was hospitalized because she was helping him deliver something.
Since she went home to visit family, he'd wait until she came back.
Sloane pouted, feeling a bit disappointed.
Although she liked Jennifer more than Beatrice, having Beatrice around at night was actually pretty nice.
Beatrice had been in the hospital for a week, and right after coming back she packed up and went home. Remembering that she didn't look too good when she left, Zanna couldn't help but remind him: "Mr. Capulet, Mrs. Capulet seemed a bit unhappy when she left."
Zanna had thought Beatrice left because of something at home, but didn't expect Arthur had no idea she'd gone back.
That's when she realized something was wrong.
Unhappy?
Arthur couldn't help but smile. So she could get angry too.
In front of him, Beatrice always wore a smile, never showing any other expression.
Arthur returned to his room and saw an envelope on the nightstand.
He knew this was left by Beatrice, but he didn't need to guess what she said.
"What era is this, still writing letters."
Arthur was about to open it when Sloane ran over, making a fuss about calling Jennifer.
Arthur tossed the letter aside and carried Sloane to her room.
The next day, Zanna was cleaning the room and saw the envelope had fallen to the floor. Thinking it was some important document,
she tucked it into the nightstand drawer so Arthur could find it when he needed it.
Beatrice got off the plane and took a cab home.
This was the house she bought before marrying Arthur.
After moving to Emberfall City, she hadn't been back.
She opened the door, a bit shocked. After all these years away, there was no dust in the house.
Clearly someone had been cleaning it all along.
Beatrice picked up her phone and sent Henry Beaufort a message: [Thanks for always taking care of the place.]
A reply came quickly: [You're back? How long are you staying in Regal City?]
[I'm back for good this time.]
Henry was shocked and didn't reply for a while.
Henry closed the document he was reading on his computer. The wallpaper showed a photo of him with Beatrice.
Beatrice was cleaning the room when her phone rang.
It was Henry calling, asking to get together tomorrow.
After hanging up, Beatrice looked at the things she'd brought back.
Two cards, a set of keys, and a photo of her with Arthur and Sloane.
One card had the living expenses Arthur gave her and Sloane, the other had her previous savings.
She'd never touched the living expenses Arthur gave her, always using the savings card.
She loved Arthur. Every time she went shopping and saw clothes, shoes, or ties that suited him, she couldn't help but buy them for him.
Her daily expenses weren't high. Her heart was full of only Arthur and Sloane, always wanting to give them the best.
Even though her previous savings had been quite substantial, she'd spent most of it over these years.
The other card still had twenty million left.
Arthur wouldn't care about this amount, but to her it wasn't a small sum.
Beatrice didn't make a fuss about it and transferred the money away.
She took the key to Arthur's villa off the keyring and tucked it in a drawer, along with that photo.
Beatrice let out a long sigh. Years ago, she'd gone to Emberfall City with just a card and a set of keys to force Arthur to marry her.
Now that she was back, she realized she hadn't brought much more back with her.
She laughed at herself and lay on the bed, saying goodbye to her past self.
The harsh alarm woke Beatrice from her sleep.
She sat up and instinctively got up to make breakfast.
After a long moment, she lay back down.
Sloane was a picky eater. Even though they had a housekeeper, Beatrice would cook herself whenever she could.
So Sloane could have breakfast ready when she woke up each morning, afraid of oversleeping, she'd set an alarm.
Over the years she'd developed a body clock and could wake up before the alarm.
It was just that she was too tired yesterday and couldn't get up today.
After hesitating, Beatrice deleted the alarm and went back to sleep.
On the other side,
Arthur and Sloane finished breakfast.
Arthur wiped his mouth. Although he was used to Beatrice's breakfast, he didn't mind. After eating, he went upstairs to change.
Sloane pouted through the whole meal.
Although today's breakfast wasn't made by Beatrice and didn't taste good, she was still happy because she'd soon be going out with Jennifer.
She pushed away Zanna who was trying to wipe her mouth, grabbed her backpack and ran outside.
Seeing this, Zanna quickly followed: "Slow down, don't bump into anything."
Sloane didn't listen, just happily ran toward the car.
She'd made plans with Jennifer - couldn't keep Jennifer waiting.
The sun rose to mid-sky, and Beatrice arrived at the restaurant where she'd arranged to meet Henry.
When she pushed open the private room door, Henry was already waiting inside.
Seeing Beatrice enter, Henry stood up and walked toward her.
