Chapter 4

My belly grew bigger day by day, and Hayden and Bianca's attention to me increased accordingly. Williams Mansion had practically become my private fortress. It felt like I was back to my life before bankruptcy.

Since Bianca witnessed me getting beaten last time, her attitude toward me had improved considerably. It was as if two wounded women had formed some strange connection.

But Sarah clearly had no intention of letting things rest.

She'd been holding a grudge against me ever since I tried to fire her. The last fight was also because she deliberately provoked me after seeing my prenatal checkup report.

Now, seeing Hayden and Bianca paying more and more attention to me, she started frequently pushing Aiden to come home and make a scene, demanding recognition and status.

Aiden's company was having problems at the moment, so he had no time to deal with her.

When I was eight months pregnant, Sarah finally made her move.

She bribed a temporary worker under a supplier who delivered organic vegetables to Williams Mansion's kitchen, mixing abortion-inducing drugs into my food.

If I hadn't been extremely sensitive to everything I ate, she might have succeeded.

The drugs were intercepted on the spot. Caught red-handed.

The temporary worker was scared and, without much interrogation, gave up Sarah.

The chain of evidence was almost laughably clear.

Hayden and Bianca were furious.

Aiden was urgently called back to Williams Mansion.

When he came in, his face looked terrible. He'd been running himself ragged over the company these past few days, and now he had to be called over to deal with this.

Perhaps my face, which had grown thinner from pregnancy symptoms, made him momentarily dazed.

He paused in his steps, his voice somewhat hoarse, "Are you okay?"

Before I could answer, Sarah, who had followed him in, immediately tugged hard at his arm. Her eyes instantly reddened as she spoke up first, all pitiful and wronged.

"Aiden! I really don't know what happened! Someone must be framing me! Vivian has never liked me."

With her pull, Aiden's momentary daze was immediately broken. He frowned, and his eyes, when looking at me, were once again filled with impatience and blame, as if that brief moment of concern had just been an illusion.

"Vivian," his tone was stiff, "you're a grown woman, why can't you protect yourself properly?! Can't you be more mature?!"

These words were so absurd that they almost made me laugh. Victim-blaming—he certainly had that down pat.

Hayden and Bianca took this child very seriously, calling him the eldest legitimate grandson of the Williams family, and couldn't risk any mishaps.

Although they didn't care how many mistresses Aiden had, they also didn't like a woman of Sarah's low birth and vicious nature. They threw her out directly.

After ten months of pregnancy, it was finally time to give birth.

I gave birth to a boy.

Hayden named him Ethan Williams.

Well then, let him inherit now.

Aiden, say goodbye to your company.
