Chapter 2 Madison, Let’s Get a Divorce
"Where's your family? There are some things to note. It's best if he hears them too," the doctor said.
Madison forced herself to accept the fact, her throat dry: "He's busy with work. He's not here."
The female doctor looked at her pale face and frowned: "No matter how busy work is, with his wife sick like this and unable to reach him, he's not being a good husband at all."
Madison tugged at the corner of her mouth, wanting to smile, but found she couldn't.
The doctor shook her head, gave her a few more instructions, and left the room.
Once the door closed, Madison carefully touched her flat belly.
Actually, she'd fantasized about having Alexander's child for a long time, but he always used protection, so after three years of marriage, she hadn't gotten pregnant.
This time, it must have been two months ago when Alexander was drunk and there were no condoms at home.
She never expected to get pregnant from just that one time.
But should she tell Alexander?
Madison didn't know. If it were before, she would have happily shared the news with him, but now...
Just then, the phone on the side vibrated.
She picked it up. It was a news push notification.
The headline stood out—
[Frost Corporation CEO throws party for his wife—high society true love is so enviable!]
Below were a few photos.
One of Alexander listening to Savannah beside him, one of her handing him water, and one of Alexander looking at her while she spoke.
The comments section was already going crazy.
[Oh my god! Mrs. Frost and Mr. Frost look so perfect together!]
[This is the kind of story high society should have.]
[So envious! Mr. Frost's eyes on his wife are full of love!]
Madison stared at the comments for a long time until her eyes stung.
Three years ago, her family hit rock bottom. Her father went gray overnight with worry and, with no other options, dug up an old marriage agreement from years before with the Frost family patriarch. He swallowed his pride and went to them.
She'd just graduated college then, full of pride, and she knew Alexander had someone in his heart, so she didn't want to tie him down like that at all.
But right when she planned to fight it, Alexander stood by her side and said,
"I'll honor this engagement."
Later, Madison asked him why he agreed back then.
Alexander didn't say anything.
Without an answer, Madison started imagining if he felt even a little differently about her.
It wasn't until later that she learned he'd agreed to marry her right when his first love, Savannah, went abroad.
After so long married, Alexander was actually good to her.
He never skimped on material things, always took her to necessary events, and their sex life was frequent.
Many times, Madison felt like she could really get into his heart.
Gradually, she fell deeper and couldn't pull herself out.
She thought she was finally going to be happy, but today, Savannah came back.
This three-year dream shattered in an instant.
With that thought, Madison gave a bitter smile and picked up the pregnancy report from the bedside.
After looking at it for a few seconds, she tore it up without hesitation and threw it in the trash.
By the time she got back to the villa, it was completely dark.
The house was quiet, with only a light on in the study.
Madison took off her dress and tossed it in the laundry basket, then went to take a shower.
After showering, wrapped in a bathrobe, she came out to find Alexander sitting on the bed.
He wore a dark gray robe, collar open, revealing his firm chest muscles.
A cigarette between his fingers, his sexy Adam's apple bobbed as smoke blurred his handsome face.
Hearing the sound, his gaze turned to her.
Fresh from the bath, Madison's black hair was messy, her skin fair and flushed, the bathrobe not fully covering her, showing a bit of damp skin. She looked like a rose wet from rain.
Irresistibly tempting.
Alexander's eyes darkened.
"Blow dry your hair."
"Okay."
Madison didn't usually blow dry her hair, but Alexander always made her do it.
Sometimes when he was in a good mood, he'd do it for her.
After drying it, Madison set down the hairdryer and worked up the nerve: "Alexander, I need to talk to you."
But the next second, he grabbed her wrist hard and yanked her forward.
"Ah!"
Madison yelped as she fell onto the soft bed.
The next moment, his tall body pressed down, his masculine scent mixed with tobacco, intense and dangerous.
He leaned down and kissed her lips.
Skilled, he parted her teeth, claiming her breath.
His other hand slipped under her bathrobe hem, sliding up her waist skin.
"No..."
Madison struggled instinctively, but the strength difference was too much, and her reason crumbled.
Lost in desire.
Just as he was about to thrust into her, Madison snapped back to reality.
She was pregnant.
The doctor said she needed rest. She couldn't do this.
"Stop, Alexander, stop."
She turned her head to dodge his kiss.
He seemed very displeased by her resistance, gripped her chin, forced her back, and kissed her again.
Madison couldn't fight him off.
Just then, the phone vibrated.
Irritation flashed in Alexander's eyes at the interruption. He glanced over, not planning to answer.
But it vibrated again soon after.
Alexander's face went cold. He reached for the phone.
Seeing the caller ID, he got up and went to the balcony to take the call.
The curtains were open. Madison watched his back, saw the gentle smile on his lips, and her heart ached terribly.
Married so long, Alexander had never smiled at her like that. The person on the other end must be Savannah.
Soon, Alexander came back.
Madison turned her back to him, feeling his cool aura approach.
They both stayed silent by unspoken agreement. In the darkness, their senses heightened.
Madison faced away, staring blankly at the thick darkness ahead.
After a while, the sound of a lighter came from behind.
Faint tobacco scent spread again.
"Asleep?"
His voice was husky.
Madison didn't speak, completely calm.
Alexander stared at her, his eyes shadowy.
He said,
"Madison, let's get a divorce."
Madison closed her eyes, as if she'd expected it.
"Okay."
Alexander paused mid-drag: "Don't you have anything else to say to me?"
"What do you think I should say?"
Alexander let out a soft scoff.
"As expected, you're still as heartless as ever."
Madison found it ridiculous. Heartless? Wasn't he the heartless one?
He'd agreed to marry her, and now he wanted divorce.
"Alexander."
He instinctively tightened his grip on the cigarette, looking at her slim back, Adam's apple bobbing.
"Go ahead."
Madison threw out,
"Three years ago, thank you for saving the Cole family."
Alexander's eyes dimmed. He gave a self-mocking smile: "The wife is too polite."
Madison smiled faintly, her lashes lowering.
She'd always wanted to say that to Alexander. If not now, there'd never be another chance.
