Chapter 3 My Mate

- MELISSA'S POV-

The voice suddenly stopped. The pain vanished immediately. I heaved, straightening up on the floor. My heart kept pounding and my head throbbed. Slowly I pulled myself off the floor and jerked out of the bathroom, staggering.

I escaped the main halls, and wandered into the court yard. There was a flight of stairs that descended from the hallway into the second courtyard below. The palace was built on a hill. I went all the way to the foot of the stairway and I sat down.

Strong winds from the east rushed through the trees and blew past me. Immediately they did, I felt an electric surge through my body.

My heart stopped for a second.

That when I smelt it; the strong alluring scent of wet lilies and oaks. My senses went wild immediately. I found myself leaving the stairs and following the scent. It was so powerful and yet so soothing. I followed it through the garden until I began to hear footsteps. I paused and hid behind a tree. From there I watched the path, waiting for whoever was coming.p

The closer the footsteps, the stronger the scent became. My heart began to race and it couldn't stop. I took a deep breath, the heat of ecstasy slowly burning inside me. I leaned against the tree, my claws scratching the bark as I fought to stay calm. That scent was unfurling something inside me; something I never knew I could get the chance to feel.

Inside me I felt my wolf. For the first time I felt its presence. It was restless. Then I heard its voice whimpering. ‘Mate. Mate. Mate.’

“What? Impossible.” I muttered. “Are you sure you…” before I could complete my statement, the memories of what happened in the bathroom floated up in my mind. I lowered my head and massaged my temples. None of this was making sense to me.

Unconsciously I took a step away from the tree. A voice drew my attention immediately.

“I saw you. Stop hiding.”

I froze, breathless.

‘That voice… it can’t be’.

I squeezed myself further behind the tree. From there I peered at the pathway. Standing there, in a golden brown million dollar suit, was Alpha Fredrick Lancaster. His pristine white shirt has three loose buttons, revealing his broad bare chest. He was tall, ripped, massive and insanely handsome. There’s no way he was the one. He can't be my mate. He is too good for me.

“Are you hiding from me?” he chuckled devilishly. I gulped. Every sound he made, rekindled the heat. “You shouldn't hide forever. I'm not going to hurt you. I don't bite unless you want me to.”

I cupped my mouth immediately, biting back a moan. My knees trembled, threatening to buckle under the weight of ecstasy.

“Are you afraid of me? Are you afraid I'm your mate?” He asked. My eyes widened. He knows.

“Yh I know.” he said like he read my mind. “I followed your scent here. Actually I smelt your fragrance the moment you entered the palace. I was waiting for you to walk into the ballroom but you didn't.” He heaved. “You made me look for you. I like that.”

I bit my lip. Uh, he was so damn good at this. I could barely control my emotions anymore. “My clothes are a bit dirty and I am… well I… I’m afraid of showing myself.”

He exasperated, then clicked his tongue. “You are my mate. It's ordained by heaven. You have nothing to worry about.” He said warmly.

I shut my eyes, sucked in a breath and exhaled. ‘Yeah I’m going to do this’. I puffed, lifted my dress and slowly stepped out from behind the tree. My head was lowered.

“Let me see your face. He requested. I breathed and raised my head . Our eyes crossed and locked. The big smile on his face disappeared. His eyes narrowed on me and he scoffed.

“Were you the one hiding behind that tree?”

I nodded.

“What the hell?” He cursed, stepping back. He stopped and took another look at me. He was acting like he saw something unreal. “No way. There's no way you are my mate.” His expression changed to something I couldn't read. He started to come towards me. I took a step back.

He stopped in front of me. He towered over me, brown eyes looking down at me. I stood there, fixed to the floor, my body shaking. He reached out and grabbed my face. His grip was tight, his fingers squeezing my jaw. I gasped, in pain but I couldn't bring myself to fight him.

He chuckled scornfully. His eyes and the look on his face, I had never seen them before. He was like the exact opposite of the man I liked, all of a sudden. “This must be some kind of joke. The goddess must be fucking with me. You can't be my mate. You are a worthless little Omega. You are good for nothing. Look at you, you are filthy.”

He let go. My knees gave way. I crumbled to the ground. He hissed disdainfully. “You are weak and puny. Gosh, what the hell was the goddess thinking?” He turned his back to me. “I don't want this ridiculous match made by the goddess. What am I supposed to do with something like you.” He hissed again.

I clenched the grass and grit my teeth, forcing myself to stay calm. Tears stung my eyes. I tried to blink them back but I couldn't. They rolled down my cheeks and dripped on the grass.

“Omega What is your name?” He continued, casually. “If I'm going to reject this bond, I need to know your name.”

“Please stop. Why are you doing this? I'm your mate.” My voice was barely above a whisper. He turned, glanced at me and then he chuckled. I winced when he laughed. It sounded even more scornful each time.

I dragged myself off the floor and I looked him in the eyes. He still wore that cold, mocking expression. “You are not my mate. You are a mistake. Now say your name so I can get this over with.”

My hands shook. I glared at him. My lips parted and I muttered. “Don't you care at all about my feelings? Your words are… hurtful.”

Alpha Fredrick laughed mockingly. “Don't be delusional. I don't give a damn about some filthy omega. Now what is your name, you little vermin.”

Immediately he said that, something in me snapped. I swung my hands at him, in anger. They collided with his face. My eyes widened. I stumbled backwards immediately. I… I just slapped the alpha.
