Chapter 7 My God, Lina
Alina’s POV
I reached the entryway, shoving the front door open, but a hand suddenly shot out, clamping tight around my wrist.
“I’ll leave. Just don’t leave because of me,” the blonde pleaded, her eyes wide and desperate as she held onto my arm.
Oh, look at her, playing the martyr and begging for Blair’s sake. When the hell did they even get this close? Just a week ago, they looked ready to rip each other’s throats out and commit actual murder.
I turned my gaze slowly back to Blair, a bitter smile touching my lips. “You really made the right choice, you know that, no?”
Without waiting for an answer, I wrenched my arm free and stepped out the door. “What the actual fuck is wrong with you, Alina?!” Blair’s furious voice shouted from the doorway, stopping me.
“We can't just throw her out onto the street just because you're feeling a little uncomfortable!”
I spun back around, my expression twisting into disbelief.
“I’m supposed to live in my own house feeling uneasy just to accommodate some random bitch who's delusional enough to think I’m into girls You’re willing to risk losing me just because your new pet project doesn't have a place to crash?” My voice cracked violently on the last word.
Fuck. I hated how much this was hurting me. How the hell did I manage to get this deeply attached to a stubborn bastard like Blair? Her chest heaved as she fought to steady her breathing, her voice dropping to a harsh, strained one.
“You’re making a massive mountain out of an absolute molehill, Lina. If you don't like her, fine. We can let her crash for just one night, and she'll be gone tomorrow morning.”
A dry, hollow laugh tore out of my throat. “It’s not even about her anymore, Blair. It’s you. You knew damn well I would actually walk out, and yet you still chose to risk losing me for someone you hardly know. Is that really all I’m worth to you?”
She didn't say a single word. She just stood there, completely silent. I never got to experience real parental love, Why? because I watch them got burned—so why on earth was I here expecting unconditional devotion from someone who isn't even blood-related?
Call me selfish, call me insanely jealous, call me whatever the hell you want, all I ever wanted was to be someone’s absolute top priority. I thought I was.
I really thought I had that place with Blair. But unfortunately for me, a blonde stranger had wandered in and snatched it away without breaking a sweat.
Blair had never cared deeply about anyone excluding me; if you looked closely enough, she doesn’t give a damn about most people on this earth then what changed? “I honestly expected a hell of a lot more from you, Blair.”
“What the fuck did you expect from me? Tell me Alina I’m curious,” Blair said walking over, wiping the tears on her face.
We’re really having this discussion? “It’s not my fault if you think you’re the fucking best in the world and the whole universe to bow before you!” She snapped. Out of anger, obviously.
But then that word hit. To bow before me? Who should bow before me? When all I ever dared to wish was have a life with someone who’d prioritize me?
Am I that bad for expecting love from someone who isn’t blood when my own blood didn’t show me that cause death took them? Why the fuck does it seem like I’m selfish for expecting to be loved by someone?
A hand grabbed onto me, making me blink back to see Blair looking at me with wide, teary eyes. “I swear down I don’t mean it, Alina. Please, you can’t just leave me like this. We’ve come too far together.”
I moved back, taking her hand off mine, then gave her a strained smile. “Sorry if my fucking self has ever been a burden to you and pardon me 'cause I never wanted one. And yeah, sorry for expecting more from you.”
I said, then turned to walk away, but she grabbed me again. Okay, what the fuck is going on? What’s all this friendship show?
“Alina, please,” her voice cracked this time. “Alina, for Christ's sake, you’re overreacting,” the blonde’s voice came out strained.
“Blonde, I fucking hate you right now, you know right?” I said, staring at her, earning nothing but a tight-lipped teary eye before I faced Blair.
“I’m not walking back into that house again, Blair. I won’t be going back on my word.” With those final words, I turned my back, walked down the front steps, and strode out into the cold, empty street.
She’s just a friend. A fucking friend who I expected too much from. I wiped the tears away from my face. The point isn’t the blonde—no, it was Blair. I was so assured of myself when I told Blair she would never see my face again if I met blondie in our house, but then what happened?
I met the blonde and even fought with Blair, and here I am going to nowhere. Where the fuck am I going to? I don’t know, but I just needed to get my shit out of that house or I would have murdered the blonde.
And I meant it, Blair would never be seeing my face again if it’s up to me, and fucking yes, it’s up to me. Well, except if this fucked-up life doesn’t throw me another shot that got me tangled with her again.
That life of mine with Blair was meant to come to a halt, and it did already. Good! All of a sudden, a big van pulled up and parked beside me, built men coming over and dragging me inside.
It was sudden, but I was able to wrench myself out of their grasp, aiming for a run, dropping my bag as I bolted. Who the fuck are those?!
Crossing the street to escape, another van suddenly tore around the corner, pulling over and slamming directly into me.
My eyes rolled back into my sockets as I flew through the air, crashing hard against the asphalt. All I could see was the pale, blank blue sky staring down at me, my entire body instantly too numb to even twitch.
“My God! Lina!!!”
I heard a desperate, shrieking scream, but I was far too weak to look up. But I knew that voice. It was Blair. Footsteps rushed over, and someone suddenly heaved my broken body from the floor, throwing me roughly over a broad shoulder as they carried me away.
Blair’s frantic, bloody screams grew rapidly muffled inside my head. The cold air faded. The blue sky vanished.
And then, everything went dead, terrifyingly dark.
