Chapter 7 Rainey Wants to Kill Her!
The red liquid in the syringe had just filled to the top.
Sophia's head dropped limply to one side, completely still.
The doctor's hand trembled, and the syringe fell to the floor. He reached out to check Sophia's breathing, and cold sweat soaked his back.
"Mr. Thomas! Ms. Hernandez is in shock!"
Joshua froze, his brows knitting tightly as he stared at the doctor. "What did you say? It's just drawing some blood. How could she go into shock?"
A calculating glint flashed in Rainey's eyes. She deliberately put on a pitiful voice. "Sophia must be faking it because she doesn't want to donate bone marrow to me."
She tugged at Joshua's sleeve. "Joshua, forget it. Sophia hates me so much. How could she possibly be willing to save me? Even if I die from this illness, I don't want to see her force herself like this."
Joshua strode forward and grabbed Sophia's wet hair. He yanked her head up.
Sophia's eyes were tightly shut, her face ashen. She let him pull at her without any reaction.
Joshua snorted and threw her head aside. Sophia's body hit the ground like a rag doll.
Joshua looked at her and sneered. "Tough guy act? Cute. Keep pretending to be unconscious. I'll make it come true."
He turned to the doctor, his tone frighteningly cold. "No need for matching. Push her straight into the operating room. Extract her bone marrow."
The doctor was horrified and kept backing away. "Mr. Thomas! This isn't right. Ms. Hernandez's physical condition is extremely poor. Forcibly extracting bone marrow will kill her."
Joshua kicked over the nearby medical cart. Instruments clattered across the floor.
"I pay you to give me orders? Extract it now. If she dies, I'll hold you responsible."
The doctor trembled. Not daring to disobey, he quickly called over several bodyguards.
The bodyguards rushed up and grabbed Sophia's arms. They dragged her away, her toes dragging limply on the ground, leaving a long trail of blood in the corridor.
The harsh operating room lights came on.
Sophia regained a bit of consciousness amid tearing pain. She felt herself tied face-down on the operating table. A piercing pain came from her lower back. A thick bone marrow needle was stuck directly into her spine.
Just then, she heard Rainey and Joshua talking.
"Joshua, the doctor told me I was misdiagnosed earlier. I don't have leukemia. I'm sorry that Sophia ended up on the operating table because of me. It's all my fault."
Joshua's voice was completely emotionless as he comforted Rainey. "It's okay. The misdiagnosis wasn't your fault. As long as you're fine. Since we don't need the bone marrow anymore, just drag that woman out."
Sophia lay on the operating table, her fingers gripping the edge so hard her nails cracked.
Rainey wasn't sick at all. This was a trap Rainey had deliberately set.
She wanted to shout, to expose Rainey's true face, but no sound came from her throat. She had no strength left, and her vision gradually blurred.
Her eyes went dark, and she fell into endless darkness again.
When she woke, the surroundings were terrifyingly quiet.
Sophia lay in the hospital bed, unable to lift a finger. The slightest movement in her lower back brought cold sweat from the pain. The IV drip above her head fell drop by drop.
Just then, the hospital room door opened. Rainey walked in.
She came to the bedside, looking down at Sophia from above. "You're lucky to still be alive."
Sophia gritted her teeth, broken syllables squeezing from her throat. "Rainey, you bitch."
Rainey curled her lips contemptuously. She pulled out a small glass vial without any label from her pocket, then took out a disposable syringe. She skillfully drew the clear liquid from the vial.
"Sophia, you're too much of an eyesore alive. Even though Joshua hates you, as long as you're still breathing, I can't sleep peacefully."
Rainey held the syringe, pointing the needle at the IV bottle. "This is good stuff I paid a lot for. Once I push it in, you'll die quickly from heart failure. The doctors won't find anything wrong. They'll just conclude you were too weak after the bone marrow extraction and didn't make it."
The needle pierced the bottle cap. The clear liquid was pushed in bit by bit.
Sophia's mind exploded. She couldn't die. She couldn't die at that bitch Rainey's hands. She hadn't avenged her child yet. She hadn't cleared her parents' names.
Summoning strength from somewhere, Sophia suddenly raised the hand without the IV and grabbed Rainey's wrist.
Rainey hadn't expected Sophia to still have the strength to resist. "Bitch! Let go!"
She yanked her hand back, but Sophia held tight, her nails digging into Rainey's flesh.
Her other hand yanked the IV needle straight out from her hand. Blood spurted out, splashing onto the white sheets.
With that burst of strength, Sophia flipped over and lunged at Rainey. The two crashed to the ground.
Rainey slapped Sophia across the face. Sophia's head turned, blood trickling from the corner of her mouth. But she didn't let go. She bit down on Rainey's arm.
Rainey cried out in pain, and the syringe fell from her hand. Sophia grabbed it from the floor. She pressed down on Rainey, gripping the syringe with both hands.
"You die. You murderer. I'm going to kill you."
Sophia was crazed. She reversed the needle and stabbed it toward Rainey's neck.
Rainey's eyes widened. She never imagined Sophia could burst out with such strength. She desperately blocked the syringe.
Weakened by her illness, Sophia soon lost the strength to fight the healthy Rainey. Sensing her force slackening, Rainey kicked Sophia off her.
She stood up, her clothes in complete disarray. Rainey panted heavily, glaring at Sophia. "You bitch. You dare fight back when you're about to die. Fine. I'll grant your wish. You die."
With that, Rainey raised the syringe, her eyes venomous, and stabbed viciously toward Sophia's neck.
Sophia reached out, gripping Rainey's hand tightly to stop her. But fresh off the operating table, she soon lost the strength to fight Rainey.
The needle tip was a hair's breadth from piercing her skin.
At that desperate moment, the hospital room door burst open. Joshua strode in quickly, panic in his eyes.
"Stop!"
Hope flickered in Sophia's eyes. Joshua, have you finally seen through that bitch Rainey's true face?
