Chapter 4 004

STEVEN

“What is this bullshit?”

“What exactly are you saying, Lawyer Ken? Are you sure you're reading the right thing?” I lashed out angrily.

“This is totally unacceptable!!”

“I am my father's sole heir and I have every right to all of his properties, how could you just come up with this entire messed up story of ‘marriage’ all of a sudden?”

“I'm sorry, Mr. Steven. I do not mean any disrespect to you or the Gold family but that was your father's stipulations to his will and Greg, your uncle, has decided to step in place pending the time you find a wife,” the lawyer uttered.

“What?”

“Did you just say Uncle Greg? That greedy bastard knows about this?”

Oh no no….that was the last person I wanted to hear about. Uncle Greg was bad news. He was the actual definition of horrible and evil.

The devil incarnate.

I felt I was the only one who sees through his fake skin. He hated my Dad with everything and had his eyes on the wealth.

“There is no way I would allow him put his hands in the bag my Dad suffered to get.  No fucking way!!!” I voiced out.

I stared into the lawyer's eye hoping to hear more from him but he kept mute and shook his head….”I'm sorry, Steven but there is nothing I can do. You are like a son to me just as your father is my very close friend but this was Robert wanted…..”

“.....for you to have a wife. You know how your father could be. He wants the best for you…” he concluded.

“Get a wife son and everything will be yours, else Greg will be in charge,” Lawyer Ken warned and walked away.

“Gosh!” I banged my hand on my forehead out of frustration.

“What do I do?”

“Uncle Greg is gonna ruin everything….He is going to drain the company and kick me out. I'm damn sure of what that devil is capable of doing!!”

I stormed out and drove off.

“Why the heck is this secretary calling?” I said as I stare at my phone ringing aloud.

“Hello, what is the issue?”

“Why do you keep buzzing my phone? I thought I told you I don’t want any disturbance today..”

“I'm sorry sir but I have two important information for you, Sir. Your Uncle was just at the company a while ago asking for financial reports and updates of what the company is running…”

“Uhn? Uncle Greg was there? Wait. Is he that desperate to get it all?”

I became furious. “I have to do something…” I voiced out.

“Douglas, what is the other thing you want to say?”

“Oh yes, it’s about the lady who came for the interview…”

I sighed, “You mean the one who ran off when she saw my face? What's that her name again, Sullivan Sofia?”

“Yes, boss….what do we do about her? She happens to be the only one fit for that position with our scrutiny, sir,” he explained.

“Just give me some minutes to think this…” I said and ended the call almost immediately.

I sighed. “I can't believe Uncle Greg was at the company. What exactly is he trying to do, run my father's company? Just like that?”

“Hell, no!!!” I said in a loud tone as I parked just outside the bar.

“You need to get yourself a bride or your Uncle takes over everything” the words of the lawyer echoed in my head repeatedly.

I kept staring at the Tequila bottle in front of me like I could empty the bottle just with my mind fixed on it.

“Dang it...this is so uncomfortable,” I voiced out.

Who was perfect for the job? Absolutely none I could think of. Even though I wanted to pick, there is no way I am picking these girls that rally around on a daily.

“Or should I ask Louisa out? Oh, no, that girl is clearly after my money and hopes to fill up her closet with designer wears…” I thought out loud.

“There is Janet but she dirty; Felicia, but that bitch looks like someone who could sell me off to feed herself,” I thought.

Whilst I was drowning in my thoughts, one of the strippers came by and caressed my thighs but I was quick to react…”Stop it…leave here…” I shouted.

It was then he dawned on me I still had one good option….”How about that Sofia girl?”

I mean she might be a hooker as well considering the club I met her at first but at least she is different.

I scoffed, “At least, smart enough to look for a proper job..”

I picked up my phone almost immediately and phoned Douglas, “Hello Douglas, I need the details of the lady, Sofia, on my desk first thing tomorrow morning,” I said in an authoritative tone.

The next morning, I was in the office as early as I could…”This has to be it...Sofia or no one…I just pray this works out,” I spoke in an inaudible tone.

“I understand how important this is to you, Steven, which is why you must act fast. Whoever this Sofia is, you got to make the offer as attractive as possible else it just might not work out,” Lawyer Ken advised.

“And this has to remain a secret, the board must not know I knew about this and supported it still,” he added.

I nodded in response.

Without further hesitation, I drafted the mail and therein I wrote,

The minute I hit send, I heard the door of the office creak open and a figure walked in.

I startled.
