Chapter 7 7

THIRD PERSON POV

Lily’s jaw dropped.

She didn’t expect him to hear that from him. Crying another man’s name in her sleep? Kyrian was obviously the only man she loved. So, why would he just slam her with something like that when they were talking about something wrong which he did.

Lily immediately regained her composure, and forcefully sucked in a deep breath, trying to calm herself down. To her, she just felt it was his way of taking the blame off him. He knew very well that it was wrong for him to drive her down here and expect her to apologize to Tracy all because she put up a little act in front of him.

That was just nasty. In fact, to think that he possibly might not have had feelings for her, despite how good she had been to him, really hurt her, and she had no interest in staying around there, which would only keep reminding her badly of how she is the odd one out here.

“Accept your faults and stop looking for unnecessary things that don’t tally.” She uttered bitterly.

Before Kyrian could say a word, she released her arm from him abruptly and walked away without looking back for a second.

Lily walked faster as she left the corridor, her heels hitting the polished floor with uneven rhythm. Her heart ached so badly that she felt it in her throat. The hospital suddenly felt too small, and suffocating. Every step she took away from Kyrian felt heavy, yet necessary.

Tears gathered in her eyes, but she blinked them back stubbornly. So, that was how he saw her.

As just Lily Kingston, a woman he married out of convenience. Nothing more.

If he truly loved her, would he have brought up another man’s name just to justify his wrongs? Would he have dragged her to the hospital and expected her to bow her head before Tracy simply because Tracy shed a few tears?

The thought cut deep. It was always Tracy.

When Tracy came back into his life, everything changed. It was almost laughable how quickly he asked for divorce, as if their marriage meant nothing. As if she meant nothing.

Lily stepped outside the hospital building, the cool air brushing against her face. The hospital was large, almost like a small town on its own. Cars drove along the wide internal roads, and visitors moved in and out. Ambulances were also parked nearby.

She kept walking aimlessly. Her mind replayed memories she wished she could erase. The way she took care of him at his lowest, and made sure to endure every single discomfort, how she took time to   his favorite meals to make him feel a little better.

She was doing every single thing with love, hoping one day he would look at her the way he looked at Tracy with softness, longing, and love.

But that look was never for her.

She laughed bitterly under her breath. “What a fool I’ve been,” she whispered.

Her vision blurred again as fresh tears formed.

Because she was lost in her thoughts, she didn’t notice the black car speeding past until it was too late.

Cold, muddy water soaked the side of her dress and legs.

Lily gasped loudly, stumbling back a little. “What the…!”

The car slowed to a smooth stop a few meters ahead.

It was a sleek black Rolls-Royce Phantom, the kind of car that screamed wealth and power. Its body shone under the daylight, spotless and polished. The tinted windows were dark enough to hide whoever sat inside. The silver emblem at the front glinted sharply.

Lily stared at her now stained dress in disbelief.

“You must be kidding me!” she snapped angrily, dusting mud off her clothes. “Can’t you see people walking?”

Her heart was already hurting, and now this.

The driver’s door then opened.

A man in a neat black suit stepped out. He looked professional, probably in his late thirties. His shoes were polished, and his posture was straight as he walked towards her calmly.

Lily frowned immediately.

Great. Now what?

When he reached her, he gave a small respectful bow. “I sincerely apologize, miss. That was careless of us.”

She crossed her arms defensively. “Careless? You splashed mud all over me.”

“I understand your anger,” he replied politely. “My boss noticed what happened and has asked that I drive you to a clothing store to get new clothes.”

Lily blinked in surprise. “Excuse me?”

“He insists,” the driver added calmly.

She shook her head quickly. “No, that’s not necessary. It was an accident. I’ll manage.”

The driver didn’t move. “Miss, I just dropped my boss here. He does not take no for an answer.”

Lily hesitated.

She glanced at her dress again. The mud stain was obvious and embarrassing. She couldn’t possibly return inside looking like this. The driver opened the back door respectfully.

“Please.”

After a brief pause, Lily sighed softly.

“Fine,” she said quietly.

Without another word, she walked towards the car and stepped inside.

When she got in, she took in the niceness of the car, feeling a little too uncomfortable to be in a car of this worth, but she managed to lean her back against the seat.

Usually, she wouldn't have entered a stranger's car, but with whatever was going on in her life, she just needed something different to take her mind off her pain.

Getting to the store, she picked a few clothes as the driver urged her to take more each time she stopped. He had even shown her a text his boss sent to him, saying she had to be treated well or he'll be fired. This made Lily really curious to know who exactly his boss might be.

“I need to see him and appreciate him for this.” She thought to herself.

They were done with shopping and the man dropped her at the same hospital because she had asked to see his boss. When they both stepped out, the driver pointed towards a man whose back was faced at them. He was with another man who seemed to be of a high class.

And they had just walked into a particular building together.

“I don't think you'll be able to meet him, Miss. That's Commissioner Gerald. Once they meet, they always have a long conversation.”

But Lily's mind wasn't on that. It was his boss’ stature that was bugging her mind.

“Why does he look disturbingly familiar?” She thought to herself, her eyes squinting.
