Chapter 2 Collaborating With The Person Who Caused Your Death?

“Who is using Nadine Myer’s account to post something like this?” someone commented.

"Please don’t create a commotion. They loved each other, and leave the account of someone who has passed away alone.”

“Among the many assumptions that someone has used Nadine Myer’s account to publish news like this, isn’t anyone suspicious that Nadine Myer might have faked her death?”

I held back my laughter as I read some of the comments.

The problem was, no one knew about my personal account as a journalist. I did not have an assistant, I had not scheduled any post, and besides, the incident mentioned in that news had only just happened.

One thing was certain: someone had acted dishonestly by hacking my account and taking advantage of my many followers. However, what was difficult to understand was how the post seemed to be taking my side.

As soon as I arrived at the Leander Group office, I immediately called my assistant, Jessie, to come to my office.

“Please investigate who posted this on Nadine Myer’s account.”

I showed her the post from Nadine Myer that had attracted so much attention after her death.

However, Jessie only fell silent and looked at me with a confused expression.

“Why are you just standing there?” I asked her.

“Is this really that important to you, Miss? Are you a fan of Nadine Myer?”

How foolish of me. Of course Jessie was confused by my behavior these past few days. Some time ago, I had asked Jessie to gather many of Nadine Myer’s old posts outside of our actual working hours. I had also asked her to keep updating me on the latest news about Nadine Myer and Jade Mason, whether on television or in the media, so I would not miss anything.

And now I was asking her to investigate who had used the personal account of someone who had already died.

“Yes, I am her fan. So please do that for me,” I said firmly.

“All right, but I hope you have not forgotten that we have a meeting in five minutes.”

Jessie’s words brought me back to my senses—that I was inside the body of Viona Leander, the woman who managed a huge company in the grasp of her two petite hands.

“Okay, and carry out my order quickly and accurately.”

Jessie gasped, straightened her posture, and said that she would not disappoint me.

As she left, I could still hear her grumbling, “It seems next time I should investigate the reason for her death.”

“Yes, be prepared for that,” I replied, causing Jessie to look back at me while covering her mouth, not expecting that I had heard what she said.

When Jessie had truly left my office, instead of preparing for the meeting, I went back to looking at the news on my laptop.

Jade was approached at his office and spoke to reporters.

“It is impossible for Nadine Myer to still be alive. I personally escorted her to the funeral.”

What was hard to believe was the annoyed expression on his face.

Was he really that upset at the thought that I might truly be alive again?

“Someone must be using her account. I will investigate it,” Jade concluded.

He gave no further comment and went back into his office.

Before I could continue browsing the news on social media, Jessie had already knocked on my office door and reminded me that I was already fifteen minutes late to the meeting room.

In a hurry, I immediately followed Jessie’s call to attend the meeting.

Inside the meeting room, surrounded by unfamiliar faces, I remained silent and listened to their ideas about the new product we were going to launch.

Gradually, it became boring being in that room. I yawned several times without realizing it.

To be honest, I did not understand at all what they were saying and trying to explain to me. As a journalist, this was not my field.

“Miss Viona, what do you think?”

Jessie tried to remind me that I was the leader of the meeting and should stay focused and give proper opinions.

“Yes?” I asked, asking Jessie to repeat herself.

“Give your opinion,” Jessie said with a slightly annoyed expression because I was not paying attention.

“Yes, good. Just do it like that,” I said, even though I had not listened in detail to what they had been explaining all this time.

“So we are going to collaborate with Mason Group?” Jessie asked suddenly, making my eyes widen at once.

“What? Collaborate with Mason Group?”

I hoped I had heard wrong.

“Yes, our noodle product is healthy noodles for babies, and our target market is indeed toddlers. Meanwhile, Mason Group operates in baby necessities. They already have the market, and I am sure this collaboration will be very profitable for both parties,” said one of our employees whom I did not recognize.

“No! Absolutely not!” I shouted quickly.

Everyone looked at me in surprise.

“Miss, please set aside the fact that you are a fan of Nadine Myer and act professionally,” Jessie whispered.

“No, we cannot work with someone involved in so many scandals,” I said firmly.

“Why not? Our product will rise because of his reputation too,” someone asked.

“There are many ways to make our product attract people’s interest. There is no need to involve others.”

What was hard to believe was how all their expressions showed disappointment and disagreement.

“Miss, but this is business. We can make use of the relationship in the future.”

“No means no!”

I ended today’s meeting by simply walking out, until Jessie followed me all the way to my office.

“Miss, what is actually going on? Why do you hate Jade Mason so much? There is nothing wrong with this collaboration. Please set aside your feelings as a fan.”

Jessie kept lecturing me until I sat at my desk in the office, and she still would not stop talking.

“No, you do not know what Jade Mason is really like. He is a traitor, deceitful, and all his kindness is just a trick.”

“Do you know him that well, Miss?”

Jessie’s question successfully made me freeze in place.

I was Viona Leander, not Nadine Myer, the woman who had been betrayed.

Wake up, Viona!

Besides, if this collaboration went through, we could gather information and get close to Jade in order to stab him in the back.

“I am not feeling well right now. I will think about it again later. Can you leave and carry out the task I asked you to do earlier?” I said to Jessie.

I told her I would reconsider it, but for now I wanted Jessie to quickly get information about who was using my account as Nadine Myer.

“I already looked into it, and Julian Smith seems to be the suspect using that account without permission."
