Chapter Two
After dinner, I sped straight to my parents' house in New Jersey.
The living room was brightly lit late at night.
I decisively slapped the asset liquidation list I had just drafted in front of my parents.
“Five days from now, a super zombie virus, similar to a rabies mutation, will break out in full force, paralyzing the military and turning the entire East Coast into hell.” Without any preamble, I looked directly into my parents’ shocked eyes. “I know this is hard to believe, but Mom and Dad, you have to believe me.”
"I want to transform that old villa on Long Island into a doomsday fortress."
Mother Martha gasped, covering her mouth.
If I hadn't awakened the ability to read minds, I wouldn't have believed such absurd claims myself.
But my father, a veteran, possessed an extraordinary sharpness that he always maintained. He gave me a deep look, his expression grave: "I know you're not joking. Viktor, what do you need me to do?"
“Stockpile enough supplies to last us for five years.” I handed him a detailed task list.
After discussing it with my parents, I contacted a real estate agent I knew overnight and quickly put the duplex apartment where Ashley and I were living up for sale at a rock-bottom price of two million US dollars.
At 3 a.m., I logged into the largest underground gambling forum on the dark web.
Ashley thought that being reborn would give her a sure chance of victory?
But after completely misunderstanding how underground sports betting works, it turns out it's all manipulated by capital.
I, posing as multiple anonymous retail investors, frantically spread the "top secrets" of that event.
I led thousands of gamblers astray, causing them to pour massive amounts of money into that unpopular option.
I know that the mastermind behind the bookmakers will definitely change the final outcome.
Ashley is clinging to her so-called "sure-win" business, waiting to go bankrupt.
The next morning, I returned to my Manhattan apartment.
"Honey, you didn't come home all night, I was so worried about you~" Ashley said with a sweet smile, wrapping her arm around mine.
Her collar was slightly open, and two fresh, reddish-purple hickeys were clearly visible below her collarbone.
I forced myself to stay awake and explained, "Honey, I didn't sleep a wink last night because I was dealing with the more than three million dollars in our account."
Her eyes lit up instantly.
[Quick! Give me the money! With this three million, a 50x leverage will definitely make me the Queen of New York!]
"Did the money go into my account?" She was so excited that her breathing became rapid.
"There's been a minor issue," I said, feigning annoyance. "Due to the large amount involved and the cross-border transfer, the account has been temporarily frozen for three days."
"Three days?!" Ashley screamed, her composure nearly crumbling on the spot.
The European Championship final is in three days!
[Damn Victor! Damn bad luck! That green-haired turtle is a complete waste, can't even handle a little money! It'll be too late in three days!]
The sharp, cursing voice in my heart is giving me a headache.
“If you really need the money urgently… I have an idea.” I stared at her furious face. “Don’t you have a lot of rich wife friends? You can borrow money from them to cover the expenses. Once the account is unfrozen, I’ll pay them back double. I won’t let you lose face in front of your best friend.”
Ashley paused for a moment, a dangerous madness flashing across her eyes.
[Yeah! This idiot reminded me! I can go borrow money from loan sharks! I'll put all the debt on this green-haired turtle's head!]
Ashley is indeed a madwoman.
"Darling, you are simply the perfect husband God gave me." She cupped my face and kissed me, not even bothering to hide the hickeys on my neck.
“You’re just as perfect, Ashley.” I looked at her coldly. “Also, to unfreeze the account, I have to fly to Texas tonight, and it’ll probably take a few days.”
This was undoubtedly wonderful news that warmed her heart.
[He's going on a business trip? Great! This luxury apartment is mine now. I can call Brad over tonight and have a blast!]
"Then be careful on your journey, I'll miss you every day." She pretended to be reluctant to part, but the joy in her eyes was already impossible to hide.
I grabbed my coat and walked out the door without looking back.
The apartment's electronic lock made a dull clicking sound behind me.
